Wusthof Gourmet 10-Piece Steak and BBQ Set

These knives are fine for what they are: a good deal on a set of very sharp steak knives with the Wusthof name. However, having gotten accustomed to the Wusthof "Classic" series in our kitchen, these "Gourmet" series knives felt oddly light and plasticky. Once you do some research you'll find that Wusthof makes several styles that span a wide range of prices: Gourmet, Grand Prix, Classic, Ikon, Culinar, etc.

The nicest part of this set was the box. I was unimpressed with the knives - light handles and flimsy blades. They have a very cheap feel to them, and left me wondering if these were really Wusthof. If so, they are certainly a price-point set. There is no way anyone would pay the list price for these.

For the $99 special price they were not a bad deal, but I returned them anyway because I was expecting Henckels Pro-level quality, and these are not.

I will say that this was my first return to Amazon in quite some time and I was reminded of how flawless their return procedures are.

These are nice steak knives and a value at the reduced price on the todays deal, other wise I would have been disapointed.

The box for the knives is really nice and makes them a terrific gift - until you open the box. Foremost, the first picture on the website and also the picture on the box is of a thick, high quality fork. The actual fork you receive, however, is like the ones in the second photo (not online when I purchased the product) and is the flat, not especially strong kind. The knives are the "Gourmet" series, so I wasn't expecting the highest quality knives we have from other Wusthof lines, but I also wasn't expecting the light, plastic-like feel of these knives. I purchased the Gold Box deal and they are absolutely worth the $100. They are not, however, any in way worth the retail price. In summary, if you can get the set for around the $100, it's a great gift for someone who doesn't know a lot about Wusthof. If you're looking for knives to be a long-term investment for your kitchen, don't waste your money.

I purchased this set on a Gold Box sale the 1st week of Oct. I was pleased with the purchase price and have owned many Wusthof items in the past and thought this would be perfect for the turkey on Thanksgiving. My order arrived on a Friday and when I opened the box at 1st I thought that the order was incomplete. I did not have a carving fork in the box... After dumping everything out I found that I did have a carving fork, just not the one shown in the photos on Amazon or on the box itself. The carving fork was so small that it was hidden under everything else. I felt that the item was mispackaged, a simple mistake and called Amazon about it. The gentleman I spoke with was kind and easy to deal with, we both assumed the same, that we just had a mistake when the knives were boxed. He sent me a new order. This all happened on a Friday afternoon and my new set was in hand on Monday so shipping was not a problem at all. When the new set arrived I found out that the old saying is true about what happens when you assume something. It was not a mistake in boxing, the new set was the same as the old one.

This is what you will get if you make this purchase:

The carving knife is fine, no problem with it.
The wooden box seems a bit cheap to have the Wosthof name on it but overall is an OK item.
The steak knives are thin and cheap. You could buy a better set of no-name knives for 25-30 dollars.
The "carving fork" is anything but. This fork would be better used to serve cocktail weenies, not hold a cut of meat. Let's face it, the reason you buy this is to cut a turkey, ham, ribs, etc... The fork is shorter than the steak knives, you would do better to hold a slab of ribs down with one of them than to try and use this fork. The dinner forks we use every day at our home are far more heavy than this thing. The photos Amazon used are not correct. You can zoom in on the fork and read the part number and size, the one in the photo is about 3 inches longer than the one you will get. The photo on the box shows a different set all together, the knives are all hollow ground Classic series not the Gourmet series that are inside. The box even says "hollow edge steak knives" and "hollow edge carving knife" but that is wrong.

As you can tell the fork kills me but overall the set is way over priced. This is truly a case of buying a name not quality. Even at the Gold Box price I am not pleased and will ship this back for a refund.

My comments are consistent with others. For the price...they are ok and disappointing. I wouldn't buy again. They are light and flimsy. I thought I was upgrading from my current knives and now regret not investing more in a better set of knives.

If you are looking for good value in a good set of knives, consider moving up and spending more.

These are servicable knives and certainly worth the sale/goldbox price paid. At full retail, I don't see these stacking up against comparably priced knives (I have a set of Henckles ProS).

What was I thinking? I should have bought two sets, as this one was a gift. But I didn't realize what a nice presentation the set would have in its wooden box. We really need one at our house too...
