Product Description

Amazon.com

A moderately priced companion to Wüsthof's renowned Classic forged knives, this Gourmet series 7-inch bread knife has the same full-tang, three-rivet, virtually indestructible poly handle as Classic knives. Instead of being forged, however, Gourmet series blades are cut from steel sheets by precision lasers. That means they have no bolsters. But it also means they are perfectly shaped and fit handles seamlessly. And the blades' high-carbon stainless steel is identical to that of Wüsthof's premium knives, only thinner. The bread knife has a raised handle for comfort when slicing through crusty loaves, making it easier to cut cleanly through the bottom crust. The knife is dishwasher-safe, but hand washing is recommended to protect its edge. --Fred Brack

Oh and it cuts bread like a champ!

The blade is excellent for vegetables with a filmy skin, like tomatoes and peppers.

I bought this knife because of a great review in The New York Times. Every word of it is true. You will return to this knife over and over. It will be THE knife that you always reach for.

I got mine here at some super sale, probably a friday sale. I would not usually be able to justify the cost of this knife.

I had never used one, just noticed one in a kitchen someone I know to buy the best of everything.

My family loves a good loaf of crusty bread sliced thin, and this knife is just perfect.

The knife is now two years old, and it cuts bread like it was new. I would guess it will still be years before it will need sharpening.

I got this knife as a "Gold Box" item. I expected it would be the same well designed full tanged knife as the rest of my Wusthof "Classic" knives (I have 8). It is not, and it doesn't have the same balance and heft that I've learned to expect from the Classic line. None the less this is a good bread knife, I'm am concerned about how long it will hold an edge however. I do prefer my 9" Classic bread knife. On the upside I find I cut bread more evenly with the offset handle.

I have owned on of these knives for 5 years... learned about it when a shadowed a chef in a professional kitchen (I was looking at going to culinary school). This knife stays sharp forever (with and occasional run over a steel) and is perfect for prepping vegetables (anything that can be sliced or diced). The only cutting task this knife is not good for is mincing, since it has a serrated blade (I highly recommend a Wusthof Classic Santuko 7inch for this purpose). Oh and it cuts bread like a champ! I'm on Amazon at this time ordering another... this knife gets so much use in my house it is always dirty.

In reference to the review by "A customer". This knife is the "Gourmet" series, if you like the feel of the "Classic" series, this knife can be purchased in an 8 inch version for a few more dollars. IMHO the Gourmet is fine, because unlike other styles of knives, a serrated knife will eventually wear out if you use a sharpening steel on it (which is necessary to keep it perfectly sharp).

If you enjoy cooking, this knife will become your best friend.

this knife is good but it is not the same as the image shown. i own the knife that is identical to the image shown and it is much better than the one amazon is representing/selling. i ordered it for my mother twice from different sellers and the same one came. the image needs to be changed.

Delivery was right on time

I bought this knife before and the one I received did not have the same shape as the picture shown . .

should have been z-shaped. Something about the z-shaped one . . . that feels better in my hand when using it.

Of course it is an excellent product.

Terrific for slicing sandwiches and most other things. It won't replace your chefs knife but for general use, it's the best
