Product Description

Wusthof's Grand Prix II knives differ slightly from the original Grand Prix line in that they feature a redesigned handle with more ergonomic curve and a squared-off end. Contemporary in look, the pebble-grain synthetic handle is molded over an extended tang for a sure, comfortable grip. Because there is less steel in the tang, a Grand Prix II cook's knife offers slightly less heft than its Classic counterpart, yet more than the trim Le Cordon Bleu. All are beautifully balanced. This all-purpose 10-piece set includes the following knives: 8-inch cook's, 8-inch serrated bread, 6-inch utility, 4-1/2-inch utility, 3-1/2-inch paring, 3-inch straight paring, 2-3/4-inch trimming, 9-inch sharpening steel, kitchen shears, and 17-slot beechwood block. Each Grand Prix II knife is precision forged from a single piece of high-carbon, stain-resistant steel. The blade has been impeccably ground, tapered, and polished, and its edge laser-tested for uniformity. After repeated use, the edge may be easily resharpened using a sharpening steel. Though the knives are dishwasher-safe, Wusthof recommends hand-washing all fine cutlery. Made in Germany, the knife set is fully guaranteed to be free of defects in materials and/or craftsmanship. --Ann Bieri

I have used my own Wusthof Trident CLASSIC Kitchen Knives for over 23 years, and have used these GRAND PRIX II knives that I helped buy for my daughter for eight years when helping her cook in her kitchen. My daughter prefers the Grand Prix handles over my Classic handles for their more sanitary aspects and the cook's/chef's knife's feel in hand while not caring that the Grand Prix II line is not full-tanged and triple riveted. Many, many hours of knife research over the years have rewarded me with much information concerning knife making, knife selection, knife skills, and knife care so I hope this review will be of help to you.

Wusthof Trident, headquartered in the knife capital of Europe, in Solingen, Germany, has been in the knife design and manufacturing business since 1814. Over time, Wusthof ascended to the pinnacle of knife manufacturing by innovation, by the use of cost-is-no-object steel alloys of the highest quality, and impeccable craftsmanship. Attention to detail is obsessive. Wusthof knives are the benchmark, the reference, in professional culinary knives...the gold standard by which all other kitchen knives are measured. That is no exaggeration. You are in kitchen knife heaven with these Grand Prix II blades.

The only other members of the star quality knife club, in Europe that is, are such under the radar German cutlery makers such as Messermeister and F. Dick, the well-known Henckles having fallen from grace for no longer fully forging their knives. The only other knives that can compare are certain makers of exquisite, difficult to find smaller Japanese knife makers such as Global, Shun, Masahiro, Kikuichi, and Miyabi having the higher profiles, whose stars are on the rise in knife connoisseur circles.

We purchased these knives to replace some Chicago Cutlery knives that served us well for over 25 years. It was actually our second purchase as we bought them for our second house and due to their great feel, balance and maintenance for sharpness, we decided we needed them in both locations. The set is great and the knife selection is well thought out. Unless you have very specific cooking needs, the set should be able to provide capability and diversity to all cooking needs The knives are first rate, balance and construction. We do not put them into the dishwasher and is it is not recommended due to the harsh heat and chemical action to the handles. I think the block could be finished more. It is adequate, functional and does have room for extras. It just is not up to the quality of the knives. Summary -- if you need a set of knives to last a lifetime, these are it.

These knives....these knives have become my best friend! I was used to using the cheapy knife sets you can get from any store (i.e., target, walmart, sometimes walgreens) and was content with those UNTIL I received this set and starting using them. I didn't even know knives existed that could cut through produce so well! As a vegan, I do A LOT of chopping and slicing and these have the job so much easier, almost effortless. Yes, they are a bit pricy, but I would purchase them again if I needed to! I LOVE THIS KNIFE SET!

Instead of a trimming knife the set contained one of those curved blade peeling knives. I didn't want that. I got on LIVE CHAT with Amazon and they gave me a $50 credit and didn't ask for the peeling knife to be returned.

It's a good set of knives. Very well made and block has room for some Henckels knives I'd had before, including a set of 6 steak knives.

I am not happy with the stupid peeling knife I have no use for and having to order the correct knife that's missing which is one I definitely need.
