Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Inexpensive companions to Wüsthof's renowned Grand Prix forged knives, Silver Point knives have the same slip-resistant handles molded of subtly pebble-grained fiberglass/nylon as Grand Prix knives. Instead of being forged, however, Silver Point blades are stamped from steel sheets. That means they have no bolsters, but the blades' high-carbon stainless steel is identical to that of Wüsthof's premium knives, only thinner. The two bread knives in this set have large serrations (or scallops, in knifespeak) to grip and slice through crusty loaves without squashing them. One knife has a 7-1/4-inch blade for large loaves. The other's blade is 5 inches long, ideal for slicing smaller loaves and for slicing rolls horizontally. This knife is also useful for neatly slicing tomatoes and soft-skinned fruits. The knives are dishwasher-safe, but hand washing is recommended to protect their edges. --Fred Brack

1.0 out of 5 stars I do not recommend, April 2, 2003

I bought a whole block of these "silverpoint" wustoff knives thinking I would be getting a fairly decent knife considering their reputation even though it was their lower end. My husband and I are very disappointed. The knives are thin, flimsy and bendy...not good when you need to cut a very crusty slice of bread or anything else a little tougher. They aren't as sharp as I was expecting either. I would have been better buying a cheaper brand with a thicker, more solid metal part. I guess if you're going to go for Wustoff...go for their expensive knives, because in their case, you get what you pay for...and less.

Obviously, Wusthof makes top of the line...knives. These break knives are its low-end counterpart, but are more than adequate for 90% of the people out there. If you are a chef or have a lot of money to blow than you'll probably want something better. Otherwise, these will do just fine. The smaller knife is for English muffins, bagettes, etc.
