Product Description

For everyday chopping, mincing, and slicing jobs, the 8-inch cook's knife is often called the chef's best friend. It's also available in a larger, 10-inch size for the chef with larger hands. Choose according to comfort. The knife was expertly crafted from high-carbon, no-stain steel in Solingen, Germany, the cutlery capital of the world. For higher precision and edge integrity, the blade was laser cut instead of stamped. Each Wusthof blade is precisely tempered to hold its edge for a great length of time, so external maintenance is rarely required. The knife's unique compound angle tapers from the spine to the edge, allowing for a sturdy, yet extremely sharp edge. It also tapers from the bolster to the tip to give the knife strength and flexibility. The knife features a riveted handle with a contoured shape for comfort and control. Washing by hand is recommended for best care.

Silverpoint II Cutlery Series

In the culinary world variety and preparing something outstanding is the key to success. Due to this, Wusthof offers more than 350 different kinds of knives to be able to provide the perfect knife for everyone. No matter which kind of blade and handle shape you are thinking of--Wusthof has the right knife for all your needs.

Types of Blades

The Right Blade for Every Purpose

The edge is the business end of a knife. It is skillfully honed by hand and incredibly sharp. For different cutting tasks different blade shapes and edges are recommended.

The Differences:

Straight-edge blade: The straight edge allows a smooth and clean cut. When carving no fibres are torn out of the meat. This edge can be used for firm and soft food like meat, vegetables and fruit.

Serrated-edge blade: The wavy or serrated edge allows an easy cut through crusty food like a traditional roast and crispy bread.

Hollow-edge blade: When cutting an air pocket is created between the hollow edge and the slice. This prevents the food from sticking to the blade and allows for finer slices.

Modern Manufacturing

With modern manufacturing techniques, Wusthof is using laser cutting to craft its stamped knives. Laser cutting is a technology that uses a laser to cut steel in precise shapes. Laser cutting works by directing the output of a high-power laser, by computer, at the steel being cut. The material then burns away, leaving an edge with a high-quality surface finish.

The remaining processes are similar to the manufacturing of forged knives.

Stamped knives are usually thinner, lighter and lack a little of the balance of forged knives; therefore, requiring a firmer grip and more pressure when chopping and mincing. They are usually priced lower than forged cutlery, because the process can be performed at incredible speeds and reduced labor and material costs. Today, high-quality stamped knives deliver excellent cutting and ability and light-weight maneuverability favored by some cooks.

Great knife! Cuts like butter. I work in a professional kitchen and i purchased this knife for use at work. I love it. It has great balance fits my hand well. It doesn't fatigue my hand. Blade is sharp and perfect thickness. Great product for a great price.

Wusthof knives are excellent but normally are pretty spendy. This is a great knife without the high price. Only drawback is it doesn't have the fancy wooden handle.

I have this knife in my 10 piece set that I purchased a few years ago and liked it enough to get the 6" version later on too. The handle is so comfortable it makes prep work seem easy, plus its very sharp and lightweight. Some people try to compare these to the "Classic" or "Grand Prix" series that cost much more and its senseless to compare them. I recently purchased one of each of those series too and yes they are different and very nice but the "Silverpoint II" knives are just as sharp maybe even sharper and do the same job for much less expense. No matter what Wusthof cutlery is high quality and they try to fit into most budgets.

This was exactly what I was looking for. This knife has the same feel as knife that it is replacing (Forschner 8 inch cooks knife) for 20 years.
