Amazon.com

With MTV and Emily Bronte in the credits of this television movie, one's expectations are automatically set at a realistic level. This is a teen-angst version of Bronte's star-crossed novel, with lots of cute young people and heavy breathing. Luscious Erika Christensen plays Cathy, who grows up alongside the rough, passionate Heath (Mike Vogel), a lost boy who wants only to play his kind of rock & roll. The fates, of course, will not allow their true love to blossom, although they allow quite a few of his songs to get on the soundtrack. Some genuinely spectacular seaside locations (in Puerto Rico) form the backdrop for the creaking dialogue and Jim Steinman's typically melodramatic music. It's pretty grisly unless you're 14 years old and cherish "Total Eclipse of the Heart." Cultural note: Aimee Osbourne, the Ozzy daughter who opted out of the Osbournes series, takes a small role. --Robert Horton

5.0 out of 5 stars one of my favorites July 25, 2006
Format:DVD
I saw this movie on mtv the first time they ran it. I waited for months and months. Immediatly after I saw it I wanted to see it again. It's that good.

I finally found it for 2 dollars at iggle video.

I'm sure you all know this is a modern twist on Wuthering Heights. It's not exactly like the book. But it is a wonderful love story and it will make you cry. From some of the reviews I'm wondering if anyone even saw the same movie I did or if they saw that it said MTV so they decided to rate it bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good chickflick. December 11, 2003
By A Customer
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
As far as books-turned-movies go, I've never felt it was realistically possible to compare them point-by-point. This movie is what one would expect an MTV version of a classic novel to be-- teen angst-y and different. If you expect a novel on film, see a different version. But judging this movie separately from the book, it was enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truely great movie December 26, 2003
By A Customer
Format:DVD
My daughter saw the movie on mtv the first time with us and enjoyed it. It's great seeing how an original piece of writing can be adapted into modern day life. My daughter is going crazy to receive the dvd as soon as it comes out because she thinks the movie is one which she and her friends can relate to. It's a great movie and the actors/ actresses are wonderful. The movie is made in a way that you will watch it from the begining until the end and not change the channel or movie. I belive this is a movie which everyone will enjoy: some remembering seeing the movie(s) and reading the book in highschool and others who have never heard of the book yet watch it and want to know what happens eventually. It's like pringles: when you start you get into it so much that you can't put it down.. you just want to watch it more and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT MOVIE! December 2, 2003
By A Customer
Format:DVD
I saw the movie on MTV and it was G-R-E-A-T! I taped it on a VHS tape - which is getting kind of beat-up since I've watched it SOOO many times! The dramatic skills of these young actors/actresses is really good! The movie (Assuming you have not read the book/watched another version of the movie) will keep you guessing until the very end. I would definitely recommend buying this movie along with the soundtrack! It's really good! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Unsure at first December 30, 2006
Format:DVD
At first I just wanted to see this movie because Mike Vogel is in it. And he is sexy. But I really enjoyed the movie overall-some scenes are cheesy. But what can you do? MTV made the film so it's a pretty decent watch.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why ? December 7, 2003
By A Customer
Format:DVD
This is possibly...one of the worst movies that I have ever seen. Even if this was not a remake of Emily Bronte's classic story, my opinion whould remain the same. All that this movie consists of is attractive actors/actresses attempting to apear "deep". About the only thing they accomplished is realistic crying (that's what the star is for). I saw this movie on MTV, and during an interview with the cast, the three main actor's said that they had never even read the book! Also, some hot and sweaty beach in Puerto Rico (or wherever) can not take the place of the English moors. Please, unless you simply enjoy the mindlesss distruction of a beautiful book, don't buy this movie. Read the book, or watch the Lawrence Olivier version instead. (Of corse, I was not expecting much from MTV, and I was not at all expecting even a decent adaptation of the book. However as a movie, I would still give this 0-1 stars, based upon shallow acting by Mike Vogel and Erica Christiensen, and a script that is wanting in many areas.)

2.0 out of 5 stars Really pretty lackluster January 13, 2008
Format:DVD
If you're a fan of any of the traditionally-told Wuthering movies, you might think an update for the story is an interesting idea. And it might be. Sadly, this attempt is so poorly written and revamped so greatly that it becomes a bland mashup of the original material and whatever was popular on MTV circa 1993. Most offensive...well, it would be a tie between the oversimplified and overly dramatic dialogue, ("If you left me I would kill you!" "I don't know who my parents are, I don't know!!!") and the mediocre music which has been forced uncomfortably into the storyline. Even if you stripped away the name and pretended it had nothing to do with Wuthering Heights (easy enough to do), it's still pretty pointless and painful to watch.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like drama and music... July 31, 2004
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this. At 23, I watched this with my Dad who is 59 (one of my friends is in it and we both wanted to see it). He enjoyed it as much as I did. Erika Christensen is lovely and I also thoroughly enjoyed Chris Masterson. It was well acted and well directed with beautiful loactions. The story was adapted well into present. It demonstrated the timelessness of the story while being different enough from the book itself not to take away from the book. It's not for anyone who doesn't enjoy a little drama, but I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Alternative music and drama.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lame storyline, but I loved the scenery
Lame storyline, but I loved the scenery. It was filmed in Cabo Rojo, PR. The lighthouse, the limestone caves, the sea and the sky, simply magnificent. Other than that, a downer.

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT THE GREATEST REMAKE
THIS WAS A EFFORT TO TAKE A CLASSIC AND REMAKE IT TO MODERN TIMES, GOOD TRY, BUT IT LACKS WHAT THE ORIGINAL WAS TRING TO SAY

3.0 out of 5 stars It used to be better...when I was 14..
Now, almost 10 years later, this movie is just okay. The main male character is kind of (okay he is) psycho. I would love to return it, but It was just 5 bucks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and worth seeing
This is a good movie! I don't know why a lot of people are saying it's not that great; yes, it's an MTV movie, so it's geared for teenagers, but it's still enjoyable. Read more
