Otherworldly,
By bluivory&& (CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wuthering Heights (MP3 Download)
As I understand it, the song is sung from the perspective of Catherine as a ghost coming back to haunt Heathcliff. She dies from illness: "Bad dreams in the night, They told me I was going to lose the fight Leave behind my Wuthering, wuthering, wuthering Heights " And her obsession brings her back to find him: "Heathcliff, its me, Cathy, I've come home I'm so cold, let me into your window. Oh it gets so dark, it gets lonely on the other side of you......" Kate Bush does a brilliant job interpreting a Bronte Romance. Its surreal in its twisted high and low emotions AND octaves. I read somewhere that Kate flies through 4 octaves in this one song. If you're someone who can adore her strange vocal manifestations, you will feel enraptured by this song. If you want easy smooth singing, in a melodic manner, this is NOT it. I personally find it a artistic masterpiece. Fun extras: Kate Bush was known as Cathy as a young child, and she and Emily Bronte have the same birthday. If you want to see something amazing look on You Tube for her early performances of this song. They are mind boggling.

Love Upon the Moors,
By Amaranth "music fan" (Northern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wuthering Heights (MP3 Download)
"Wuthering Heights" was Kate Bush's first hit song in 1978. It's an electrifying song based on Emily Bronte's gothic novel about forbidden, obsessive love. It's sung from the perspective of the heroine, Catherine, longing for beloved Heathcliff to come home. It's tender, imploring, fierce. Kate Bush calls down the wildness of the wilderness. It's primal and powerful, about "rolling upon the moors."
