Didn' t Matter How Simple Or How Much., June 10, 2001
This review is from: Wynonna Judd (Audio CD)
She doesn't have the pipes of some other singers, and she occassionaly slips into a sacherine vein thats a little hard to take, but Wynonna Judd gets it. She knows what music is for, and she knows there's a time for tough, a time for soft, a time to growl, and a time to coo. She GETS IT. And, on just about every record with her mother and on her solo stuff, there is some moment that she sings so perfectly it brings a lump to your throat. "When I Reach The Place I'm Goin'" comes close, but on WYNONNA it is "She Is His Only Need," a tune that would have been pedestrian in the hands of a lesser talent. It's just a corny little thing until she turns the phrase "Boy, ain't that love just something when it's strong enough to keep a man going." She is a masterful, masterful singer, lightyears ahead of her contemporaries. A stodgy selection of tunes, and the dependence on a bland set of backing singers, makes WYNONNA a less than great LP, but her voice makes it all listenable. The best moments are magic.

Second Only To Her "Tell Me Why" CD, January 22, 2000
This review is from: Wynonna Judd (Audio CD)
Lots of great stuff here including "I Saw The Light", and this isn't the one that Hank Williams sang, as this rocks! Wynonna has a sound all her own and proves here that she doesn't need Mama anymore. Other stand out material here is "When I Reach The Place I'm Going", "It's Never Easy To Say Goodbye" and "She Is His Only Need". Go out and get this album along with her other outstanding album "Tell Me Why".

Great Solo Debut, February 5, 2000
This review is from: Wynonna Judd (Audio CD)
With this release, Wynonna proved she could not only survive, but thrive as a solo artist. She's since become a country superstar in her own right. Breaking out of the limited range of the Judds, here she takes on not only country, but blues, rock, soul & gospel and sounds like a natural at each one (something that could not be said for Mama Judd). Besides the obvious hits ("I Saw the Light", "No One Else on Earth", and the ballad, "She Is His Only Need") the lesser known tracks are equally as strong. In particular, "What It Takes" & "A Little Bit of Love" are the type of bluesy country-rockers she's become famous for, while "When I Reach the Place I'm Goin'", "It's Never Easy to Say Goodbye", & "Live With Jesus" reveal her softer, spiritual side. "All of That Love From Here" is a soft, Juddsy country ballad. The only song I don't particularly care for is "My Strongest Weakness", but with one of the best voices in the business, even this one is listenable. This is one of the best country albums I've ever heard.
