5.0 out of 5 stars Second Only To Her "Tell Me Why" CD
Lots of great stuff here including "I Saw The Light", and this isn't the one that Hank Williams sang, as this rocks! Wynonna has a sound all her own and proves here that she doesn't need Mama anymore. Other stand out material here is "When I Reach The Place I'm Going", "It's Never Easy To Say Goodbye" and "She Is His Only Need"...

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn' t Matter How Simple Or How Much.
She doesn't have the pipes of some other singers, and she occassionaly slips into a sacherine vein thats a little hard to take, but Wynonna Judd gets it. She knows what music is for, and she knows there's a time for tough, a time for soft, a time to growl, and a time to coo. She GETS IT.

And, on just about every record with her mother and on her solo stuff, there is some moment that she sings so perfectly it brings a lump to your throat. "When I Reach The Place I'm Goin'" comes close, but on WYNONNA it is "She Is His Only Need," a tune that would have been pedestrian in the hands of a lesser talent. It's just a corny little thing until she turns the phrase "Boy, ain't that love just something when it's strong enough to keep a man going."

She is a masterful, masterful singer, lightyears ahead of her contemporaries.

A stodgy selection of tunes, and the dependence on a bland set of backing singers, makes WYNONNA a less than great LP, but her voice makes it all listenable. The best moments are magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Solo Debut, February 5, 2000
This review is from: Wynonna Judd (Audio CD)
With this release, Wynonna proved she could not only survive, but thrive as a solo artist. She's since become a country superstar in her own right. Breaking out of the limited range of the Judds, here she takes on not only country, but blues, rock, soul & gospel and sounds like a natural at each one (something that could not be said for Mama Judd). Besides the obvious hits ("I Saw the Light", "No One Else on Earth", and the ballad, "She Is His Only Need") the lesser known tracks are equally as strong. In particular, "What It Takes" & "A Little Bit of Love" are the type of bluesy country-rockers she's become famous for, while "When I Reach the Place I'm Goin'", "It's Never Easy to Say Goodbye", & "Live With Jesus" reveal her softer, spiritual side. "All of That Love From Here" is a soft, Juddsy country ballad. The only song I don't particularly care for is "My Strongest Weakness", but with one of the best voices in the business, even this one is listenable. This is one of the best country albums I've ever heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars This album is the best, September 19, 1999

This review is from: Wynonna Judd (Audio CD)
I have throughly listened to every track on this cd and enjoy all of them equally -- but. The best tracks are "No one else on earth", "She is his only need", and "My strongest weakness". This is her first solo album and it is as good as any regular issue album she has put out. By the way that is saying alot. If you haven't purchased this cd yet then you are missing out. God bless you and enjoy the unique sound of Wynonna

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily the best female country album of the decade!, March 26, 2000
By
Paul W. Sager (Saint Louis, Missouri) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wynonna Judd (Audio CD)
Back in 1992 the country music world eagerly waited in anticipation of one of their beloved artists, Wynonna Judd. As she was known back then she was the daughter of Naomi Judd and the other half of the most successful country singing duos, The Judds.

Rewind back to January 1992, Wynonna Judd, as she was known back then, took center stage and debuted her first solo #1 She Is His Only Need on the American Music Awards show. This preview of her landmark album was going to set the country music world on fire.

Launched in May Wynonna debuted at #4 on the Top 200. Shipped platinum this album went on to sell over 4 million copies and send 4 songs to the #1 position.

Opening this album is a song that has biographical tones to it, What it Takes shows you you can do what you want, when you want and how you want. Wynonna contains slow ballads that only Wynonna could sing, My Strongest Weakness, It's Never Easy to Say Goodbye and All That Love From Here, but let's not forget the crowing song from this album, No One Else On Earth.

If you only had one album to have in your country selection, Wynonna has to be one. She may not sell 20 million albums (at least not yet) but she has a voice like no other and that is what really matters in this business. Hurricane Wynonna swooped in 1992 and hasn't let up yet...You go Sister Friend!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great album, May 2, 2001
This review is from: Wynonna Judd (Audio CD)
Wynonna has to have the most powerful voice in country music. But even though her voice is strong, she can still sing a soft ballad beautifully and from the heart. Her songs are full of everyday life and emotions, as well as a lot of inspiration. Wynonna is an artist who not only appeals to the country crowd, but also to rock fans, although this is of course, a country album. Anyone who loves a strong female voice, is sure to enjoy Wynonna's albums.

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Wynonna Judd (Audio CD)
Since the mid 1980s the Judds were one of the top country duetsin the country. When Niaomi had to retire, Daughter Wyonnona(Real name Christina). Had to go solo. This first solo CD shows that Wynonna can carry her self in the country music business. This CD has many top country hits. Such as the spirited "what it takes" "I saw the light" and "no one else on earth". This songs have a strong pop component. Of course wynonna has a great voice for singing ballads such as "She is his only need" and "its never easy to say goodbye". She also includes a spiritual ballad "Live with Jesus". Wynnona's voice has a soulfulness that makes her songs sound believable

Wynnona is fabulous. Her voice is melodic and charming. This CD introduces the country flair and energy she has with a lot of grace and country energy.

Every song tells a story and does it with a lot of heart. If you like the JUDDS, you should have this one too. A must for every fan. Her "Collection" is my favorite! Buy it!
