Editorial Reviews

Product Description

In this full-length program, Wynton is featured in an intimate concert performance with his quartet, recorded at the Westwood Playhouse in Los Angeles. Wynton Marsalis approaches the art of jazz, both as a performer and a teacher, in the tradition of the great musicians who preceded him. He plays a vital role as the link between the past and the future. His artistry pays homage to the masters who have influenced him. These elements are woven into a unique look at this extraordinary young artist, already acknowledged by his peers and by the public as a true master. 79 minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Wynton!, July 30, 2004

Whoever says that Wynton can't swing obviously hasn't listened to him lately. As for Harry James, he didn't play bop! Bop isn't a heavy swing. Wynton shows his versatility and technical prowess on this one! I only wish that he would go back to playing with the fire that he plays with on this video!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Jazz DVD !!!!, September 21, 2004

The guy who put 1 star for that DVD must be joking!!!!
That DVD is great, the version of Duke's "Caravan" alone worth the price... Marcus Robert (the pianist) is a monster... Marsalis is inspired... Go on!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Stick to Playing Classical Music, February 7, 2004
By A Customer
A superb trumpeter of classical music, Marsalis could not swing his ass. It is a sad commentary of the times that the brilliant horn of Byron Stripling receives scant press, and Marsalis makes the big bucks for playing awful jazz. Harry James: Where are you now that we need you?
