Product Description

Starch free wysong epigen represents the first important kibble pet food innovation in almost 60 years (patent pending) and moves conventional dry extruded pet foods much closer to the high protein meat-based, starch less foods carnivores are genetically designed for. with that, they are given greater opportunity to enjoy their full natural health. epigen is equally appropriate for both cats and dogs.

One of my five cats is diabetic. After EXTENSIVE RESEARCH on his condition we decided to control his blood sugar with a diet of specific wet foods and ground meats (raw or cooked)and have been successful. He does get very annoyed when the other cats are given their dry food. We searched for a dry food that we could use as a treat that wouldn't spike his sugar (and he would eat). This product and the Epigen 90 have done the job for us. Other high protein dry foods caused him to vomit or he wouldn't eat them. We slowly introduced Epigin to all the cats and can keep a small bowl available to them all day. We still give the other cats some of their regular dry so they don't gobble up the Epigen. As a side note, I have rescued cats for a long time and have used Purina Cat Chow as the primary food. Since most of my cats were strays I trapped, I believe they have done well. Most have lived to be 16-17-18-and several to 19 with only the most basic vet care.

It contains 'grain protein' which is suppose to not be the same thing as a whole grain. It lists a small listing of the 'proteins' it MAY contain (as in I suppose it varies per batch???) it may contain pea, potato, corn etc protein. I STRONGLY disagree with corn use in dog food, but I think I'm going to for now use this because I bought a 16 pound case of this food, which will last my dogs about 2 months and who knows, it MIGHT not actually have corn in it this batch.... I will switch away when I use this all up. I really really really had high hopes for this food, since I was willing to believe the hype about the difference between the starch vs grain thing and it's relatively affordable for me, but after reading this food "may or may not contain corn at any given time" I don't feel so good using it, since there's no way to know at any time what is actually in it and it can cause an allergic reaction without my knowing because of the formula change. I'm very disappointed. I am going to shop around again while my boys finish this up.

There IS one thing I love about this food though. The kibbles are VERY small, like half pea sized and are very easy to mix with my dog's rehydrated raw food, they can't as easily pick them out and discard them like they can with some larger kibbles like some of the Taste of the Wild kibbles. Also, the 16 lb case came as a box of 8 2lb bags, which I guess the environmentalist in me doesn't like so much, but I do love that my small dogs can have all 16 pounds of super fresh food instead of food that stales over time because I buy in month or two batches to save some money for myself.

Ive bought the Wysong Epigen 90, my cats like it. Its 90% meat , 60% protein & its very expensive. While THIS food still has 60% protein, it has Corn ( corn protein) which imo shouldnt be in cat/dog foods. With corn being gmo, its bad & it just doesnt need to be in there. As a "filler", or cheaper protein source I suppose? But, be careful, though you may think this is a great food, reasearch the ingredients.. Thats why this bag is $38 and the Wyson Epigen 90 is $72!! Both 60% protein- its the big difference in ingredients.. Just fyi~

Dogs ancestral diet was 75% meat protein and 25% vegetable and carbs. At most they should have 15% carbs. Commercial dog food knows how cheap carbs (potato, sweet potato, grains, peas, tapioca) is and they use it as a major filler in foods. Its not just all about the "NO GRAIN", it really needs to be about "NO CARBS!"

Wysong only has 8% carbs which has been working wonders for my bulldogs with inflamed paws. They are still a little itchy and the only way I will solve that is with an allergy pill as I believe the remaining itch to be hay fever. However if you are dealing with similar issues this food is the best food out there. Its high in protein, and gives my dogs great energy and beautiful coats. I can't say enough good things about it.

NOTE, IF YOU HAVE DOGS WITH ITCHY/YEASTY SKIN ISSUES: like bulldogs.....they need NO CARBS! That means NO sweet potato, NO potato, NO rice, NO peas, NO tapioca.....commercial foods don't list the carbs because they are so cheap that they make up 30-60% of the food when they should at most be only 15%. A dog with yeast issues should have no carbs if at all possible. You calculate the carbs by starting at 100, subtract protein %, subtract fat %, subtract moisture %, subtract 8% for ash (not typically listed). That gives you a pretty good idea of how many carbs are in the food. Dont subtract fiber since that is essentially carbs. Hope this helps.

Wilterness the Snow Tiger looks forward to his meal every day. He has all of his teeth and looks rest. About 6 years ago he had a UTI and we were told he had to be on a prescription Science Diet. This Epigen has the necessary Taurine ingredient to maintain his urinary tract. I think it's a great quality food for you dogs & cats! Don't be cheap buy the best. (P.S. Save the UPC symbols and get free food from the manufacturer. They are worth 50 cents each!)
