Exceptional. Unforgettable.,
By Kerryah (Port Adelaide, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wyvern (Hardcover)
This was the first Attanasio book I ever read, but certainly not the last. However, nothing has ever eclipsed the magnificence of Wyvern. I've never found anything else (by any author) that quite matches this in its sweeping scope. The setting is also wonderfully exotic and refreshingly different from most books in the historical fantasy genre.

One of the two greatest adventure books of all time,
By Randall J. Crook (Tulsa, OK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wyvern (Hardcover)
When I first read Tolkien's trilogy in 1971 I never thought that I would find any adventure that I liked as well until I read Wyvern while on a backpacking trip. I have since reread it twice and find it as facinating as the first read. I can't believe that it is so difficult to find. I cannot recommend this adventure story highly enough.

A devastating culmination,
By Bob Satori (the end of the world) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wyvern (Hardcover)
If you are a fan of Mr. Attanasio's earlier works this seems to be the point where his theme of human potential and suffering finally concludes with a subtle but tragic realization. If you have never read Atanasio's work this would be a fine place to start. Wyvern is perhaps the most consistently violent tale I've ever seen from the author, but it is never gratuitous. This is a terribly moving story that will stay with you for many years, no mere work of light fiction for an evening's entertainment.

Humble words are not enough to describe this masterpiece...,
By finna (LONDON, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wyvern (Hardcover)
An incredible epic adventure, involving cultural clash, piracy and buccaneering, mysticism and fantastic journeys into the psyche. Words are hard to find to descibe this book adequately. Undoubtedly one of the greatest adventures ever written with a horde of brilliant and fascinating characters, locations and situations to boot. It's a crime that this book is out of print, someone should really sort that out!

One of the greatest mystic adventure stories ever written.,
By Dr. Patrick L L Rhodes (Norfolk, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wyvern (Paperback)
I have read this book twice and have overwhelmed by A. A. Attanasio's ability to involve me in Jaki Gefjon's epic adventure. It is a mystical tale of power, glory, love, revenge and triumph. You don't read this book, you experience it!

A Delicious Read full of Lush Descriptions & Great Adventure,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wyvern (Hardcover)
Attanasio's makes the jungle of Borneo come vividly alive. I have read and reread this book more than any other book in order to feast on the descriptions and be captivated by the adventure. I especially liked the character of Wawa, the gibbon who is rescued from a cooking pot as a baby and becomes the main character's animal guide. Their relationship is heartwarming. This book deserves to be reprinted.

This review is from: Wyvern (Hardcover)
Through dark mysticism, violent beauty and the emotionally charged background of adolescent life, Attanasio characterizes the developement of the hero in true archetypical value. His adventurer stumbles and charges through love, war, death, piracy and philosophy as he encounters the world with a sword in his hand and medicine man in his heart. truly unique in concept and execution.

If the colorful video that played in my mind while I read this book showed on the big screen, it would probably be the best movie ever made....ever.

This book rocks!!!!! A young half-cast from Borneo takes you from the jungles of his childhood, through piracy and love. And along the way makes you think alot, maybe to much, about life, and why.
