I was not at all disappointed with the contents of volume 2 in this book. No offense to the past reviewers, but it's not really a short and sweet thing for X-Day to happen. They have to go through the whole thing slowly, and on the way to X-Day, wouldn't you like to see some of their problems solved? The characters keep me in suspense the whole way through; I wish to find more about them every time I learn something is hidden.I know, just the plot of X-Day is impossible too, but that's what manga is for. Manga isn't to show real possiblities of life, but an imaginitive mind. 5 stars for this creative manga! I'm sorry if I offended anyone at all with my opinions. =)

I know that many people are disappointed with this book, but while I do understand that, I don't agree at all. X-Day was... really out of reach. Whether or not the characters involved will pull it off is a mystery, and that's part of the emotion left behind by the book. Maybe it's never meant to happen. Like a lot of people, I was looking for a longer storyline, though I'd already known it was only two books long. The abrupt ending surprised me, but it should be content, not length that makes a difference. There's something about the book, the characters, the story, X-Day itself that should make all the readers think a little bit. I recommend it to anyone, even non-anime/manga fans.

ONLY 2 BOOKS LONG!!?!?!? WTF!?!?!,

You know how the Japanese bombed Pearl Habour? Well that's how I feel about X-Day a little bit. It's like they dropped a major bomb on me but on to the point. After I finshed reading the series that I borrowed from my friend, I was like: "I can't wait to see volume 3!" but when I tried to look it up on the internet for Volume 3 it said it doesn't exist so I was thinking what the heck but when I went on this site and it said X-Day is only 2 books long...I was crushed! I was thinking, well that just sucks! The first volume kept me on edge with plotting and planing or X-Day, the problems they were facing and the other dirty little secrets they have. I was craving more...so when I read the second volume I was so excited! At the beginning, I was loving it but it just stopped. It stopped. The plot was never finished,BIG cliff-hanger, and other things. It felt like a good movie that is suppose to be an hour long but they cut it to 30 minutes. I would say and I you can quote me this series could've been longer. Could've been at least 12 volumes long because that was way too short! Suddenly all their problems which they had for quite some time go away but just forgetting about? I understand X-Day plot because the plot of the story was X-Day is never reachable because this false day would bring 4 random people together with the same problems...basically this book is saying everybody has problems they are facing and they all want an X-Day to come. That is based on my literary crit. but this was a major disappointment. I wouldn't recommend it but I have to say I like the book because of some scenes and pictures in the book and the juicy dirty secrets but come on. This book has more potential than being only 2 volumes long.

Many previous reviewers complained that the ending was a letdown and, to be honest, it kind of was. One gets the feeling that Satona Mizushiro had the series canceled from under her and she rushed to wrap up all the plot threads. Unfortunately, it didn't quite work. In terms of the central conflict, the characters are essentially left where they started, struggling to deal with overwhelming social pressures without any real hope of relief.
That said, the second volume of X-Day still has much to offer. The characterization and dialogue remained top notch, and the art continued to hauntingly evocative. Much of the story depends on subtle facial expressions and body language, and Mizushiro did a brilliant job of conveying it. In effort to wrap up the plots, she sacrificed some of the preceding volume's subtlety, but thankfully, she avoided outright melodrama. She handled the relationships between characters with quiet grace, which made all that much more believable. In the end, readers will probably end up disappointed with the final installment of X-Day. However, I hope that they would be able to appreciate the story for it's merits and forgive it's failings. Metona Mizushiro crafted a unique, brilliantly realized story of isolation and longing, and it would be a shame if the readers didn't see it through to the end.

Things wind down in the second volume of X-day..... and it really did not really give me a satisfactory feeling. Yes, everyone becomes semi-happy, but it had potential to be so much more. Ah, well. The only thing that makes this book worthwhile is the short story at the end which is fantastic! I loved it.

What a let down.I really, really enjoyed volume 1. I didn't know the series was only 2 books long. After reading book 1, I was ready for a nice long run with these interesting characters. So what if X-day never actually happened? So what if they never actually demolished the school? I can live with that - but there was SO much more room for character development, angst, planning, doubt, etc. So much more could have been done - no - DESERVED to be done with these characters and situation, even if the end result wasn't a big explosion... So I was a bit stunned when I got to the middle of the book and it was OVER. The X-day story in Vol 2 up to that point had been a let down in itself - the plot and action was all rushed and then - the end. So annoying. I liked the short, unrelated story at the end more than anything else in this book. My feelings on this series are so mixed now. I loved book 1 but I don't know if I can really recomend it, since book 2 is such a let down. Yes, it is best to leave your audience "wanting more" but this felt much more like sitting down to watch a good movie only to have the power go out. Interrupted and unnatural.

Felt Cut,

You know that feeling when you watch a film or read a book and never get right though it, then months later you sit up in bed and think; "Hey, what ever happened to said book?" Well, X-Day vol. 2 is that in manga. I read the first volume and waited on the edge of my seat for the next, only to be brutally disappointed. So much potential that just fizzled out. Like an OVA of your favourite Anime, it felt crunched. Either the editor or writer just gave up. Kaput! "I think I'll end it with some honey sweet fireworks and pretend the whole thing never happened." That would have been fine. It's ironic, it's life, however if that was to be the conclusion all the built up hate needed to also be dealt with, people don't just jump from raging anger, to just shrugging it off with out some form of reckoning. They have to work it out. This Takes Time. By rights the series should have been volumes longer. As it stands this manga felt cheep, cut and downright awful. The issues are still a worthwhile read but be warned, you'll be lying in bed months from now wondering... "what happened again... that X-day, I must remember to find the next volume."

i was expecting lotsa cool flashy stuff, but not really much happened. didn't live up to the first one. I love the story at the end though, 'The Final Supper'. that alone made this book worth it in the end!

A lot of people hated this manga because it ended so soon and it didn't wrap up the plot. I think it did this rather nicely. X-day was never supposed to happen. Rather, the manga is about four people with nothing finding friendship. I really liked the cliffhanger ending.

COP OUT!!!!The first book was edgy and managed to create an improbable mixture of mellowness and anger. All of the characters were interesting and real, as were their problems. In the first book all the characters were forced to do things they didn't want to: X-Day was meant to be their day of liberation. But X-Day never comes. I hope that the ending of the book is meant to be ironic, that they all decided to adopt plastic smiles like the rest of the world; but the author either betrayed their original intention, or was forced to change it. As for The Last Supper: what the hell was that all about? I'm getting sick of manga publishes just throwing in random stories by the same author just for the hell of it. It was an insipid preachy fable, but at least it wasn't as nearly distracting as when Viz did it in the first volume of "Boys Over Flowers". |
