1.0 out of 5 stars Dumb Lyrics, September 2, 2005
This review is from: X Descendant (Audio CD)
What a waste of money. I bought this because of the description in redtunictroll's review. Man do I regret it. This stuff is just worthless.

I can't believe he said that comment about playing the Filmore, this sounds more like something you'd hear at the local bar on open-mike night. The lyrics are dumb, too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Amateur crap, June 15, 2005

J L (S Mississippi) - See all my reviews
This review is from: X Descendant (Audio CD)
This is one of the worst albums I have ever heard. Very bad songwriting.

The best parts of the album are where you can tell they've been using The Melvins record "Houdini" because some of the vocal lines have been ripped off exactly from that record. Come on guys, come up with your own ideas.

Overall a very weak album. Avoid this stinker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super heavy psychedelic blues, December 26, 2004
By
This review is from: X Descendant (Audio CD)
This Illinois trio plays terrific psychedelic electric blues that their press likens to James Blood Ulmer or Captain Beefheart. Those touchstones may be accurate, but Joseph Demagore's beefy vocals are often mindful of Iron Butterfly's Doug Ingle (though without the operatic flourishes), and their bass-heavy roar harkens back very favorably to blues-psych-rock acts like Cream and Ten Years After.

The band can also turn on a dime from full-on electric blues-thrashing to acoustic-led originals like "Slow Train," "Vampire Song" and "Children." Impressively, even as they turn down the power, they still maintain their menacing undertone. Their ode to the Who live at Leeds, a cover of Johnny Kidd & The Pirates' "Shakin' All Over," is a just one of several bullseyes.

Listeners to this CD are forewarned to put one hand on either side of your head, as it will surely blow your mind. If there were any justice in the world this band would have a chance to plug into some vintage Marshall stacks on the stage of the Fillmore while a full-on light show swirled around them.
