So much better than volume one.,
By Candace A. Gee "dilettante" (Houston, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: X Files Book of the Unexplained Volume 2 (Vol 2) (Paperback)
I have both volume one and now volume two- thanks to used book sellers. This book contains "explainations" for some of the best in my opinion episodes. "HUMBUG", "FIREWALKER", "3" - that was the episode that had one of david duchovny's at the time's girlfriend playing a vampire, "War of the coprophages"- heh heh Dr. Bambi, "hell money", "clyde bruckman's Final repose"- the psychic epiisode-one of my all time favorites. Msybe the book was great because it had great episodes in it... or maybe it was great because it seemed to be written better than the first book. The chapters are clearly laid out into catagories: Life outside the mortal form, human enigmas, weird world, ancient beliefs, 20th century threats and paranoias, a cosmic conundrum, investigating the unexplained. It's a well written book- as i've said before. the research goldman did for this book is excellent. it is similar to the first book with quotes from the various episodes... but in my opinion is more interesting than the first one. Maybe it's because goldman had choosen some great episodes to write about. Definately get this book for your x-files collection. I'm glad that i did.

This review is from: The X Files Book of the Unexplained, Vol 2 (Hardcover)
Most people think that everything in the X-files is completely fictional, this simply isn't true. There are real life roots for the stories weaved by X-files writers, and this book chronicles all kinds of useful, entertaining, and interesting examples of these facts. Are aliens manipulating our government? is mind control possible? what lies at the bottom of loch ness? Only this book will give you the facts you need to make a conclusion. I use it as a great rescource material.

This review is from: X-Files Book of the Unexplained, Volume One (Paperback)
A great book. You can see there's been some thorough research conducted for this book. It was an absolute pleasure reading this book. Being the avid science and X-files fan I am, it was interesting to see XF to be presented in the light of "real" science. Really a must read for any XF or science fan.

This review is from: X-Files Book of the Unexplained, Volume One (Paperback)
I have only read volume two, but I have to say it was one of the best books EVER! I am 13 years old and I read this book for school. When I did my presentation on it, i thought everybody would be bored, but at the end, my friends were begging me to read more. It had so much fascinating information in it. I highly reccomend that everyone on earth should read this book!

The Merits of Goldman's X Presentation,
By Beatrix Kiddo (Way Down South) - See all my reviews
This review is from: X-Files Book of the Unexplained, Volume One (Paperback)
I absolutely love to know the sources of Chris Carter's inspiration for the X-Files plots. Goldman's book combines matter-of-fact prose with informative color photographs. In addition to this, she offers extensive bibliographies for further reading of the subjects she covers. Her book is a must for us hard-core fans of the show.

This review is from: The X-Files: Book of the Unexplained, Vol. 1 (Hardcover)
This big... er... massive X-Files book is truly something to be admired. The amazing detail, the awesome descriptions, the well-done interviews with cast and crew members alike, Jane Goldman, the author, should get some kind of award...

This review is from: The X-Files: Book of the Unexplained, Vol. 1 (Hardcover)
There are many reasons to love that book:First, it had a good appearance and nice quality paper. Second, the pictures in it, the lines from The X-files make a nice reference and makes some stuff easier to understand. Third, it explains a lot of paranormal phenomenon very clearly, with the explanations of scientists, researchers, witnesses, etc. And finaly, all the reasons above explain why I loved it.

Classy,coffee-table book treatment with paranormal tie-ins,
By A Customer
This review is from: The X-Files: Book of the Unexplained, Vol. 1 (Hardcover)
Among the better books tied to the popular TV series, Goldman's book is a well-crafted, well-prepared look at the paranormal/UFO "foundation" of the series. Not an episode guide or behind-the-scenes book, it focuses instead on thoughtful analysis of such themes as poltergeists, cannibalism, and alien abduction as they relate to X-Files stories. The author shows an intimate familiarity with the content of each episode, and is able to seamlessly link elements of the actual episodes to events in "real" paranormal literature. Very glossy, pretty book
