One of, if not the, best comic licensed 16-bit game ever,
By N. Durham "Big Evil" (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: X-Men 2 Clone Wars (Video Game)
When one looks through the history of 16-bit video games, they will notice the unbelieveable number of comic-licensed side scrolling beat 'em ups (Spider-Man, Batman, Spawn, and the X-Men among others; funny because most of them were from Acclaim), most of which all played the same and really didn't offer much in the terms of fun and replayability. Sega's original X-Men game was an exception that captured some of the intensity of the comic and Fox cartoon, and its' sequel X-Men 2: The Clone Wars also excells above most of the other comic licensed games. You can choose to play as Beast, Cyclops, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, and Wolverine, and after defeating Magneto on Asteroid M you get to play as him as well (and he is the best character in the game). The levels are huge and expansive and include Siberia, Asteroid M, the Amazon jungle, and the Phalanx clone laboritories. The bosses are tough and range from Apocalypse, Brainchild, Tusk, a Sentinel brain, clones of the X-Men, and the huge rampaging Brood beast that chases after you in the final level. The characters are nicely animated and are large, pixelated, and colorful and resemble they're comic counterparts. The control scheme is simple, and the background music is actually great (and that is saying something considering the Genesis didn't have the best sound chip in the world) and the difficulty will make you come back and play it again and again. All in all, if you still have your Genesis and are an X-Men fan then find this game quick, or if you still have this hold on to it.

Beautiful,

I honestly loved this game. I am a moderate fan of X-men, but I don't love the game solely because of its license. It's the mechanics of it. The game is staged the arrival of an outer-space ship piloted by creatures bent on Earth's destruction, but despite the cliche premise, the game pulls it off extremely well. You have the selection of Cyclops, Wolverine, Gambit, and Nightcrawler ( all four from the original game), but now they are joined by Beast ( whose power is sticking to all sorts of walls) and Magneto ( finally, a non-hero! ). The characters are large, colorful, and well-animated. Now, for the game's aspects:a) Controls - very tight, the game is a pleasure to handle. Moves are easy to pull off, but not accidental. b) Graphics - large, colorful pixels. No choppy graphics or anything like pop-up that plagues most polygonal games. c) Content - I would like to say that this is probably the best superhero game in existense. The game is hard, but not because of rarity of powerups or anything like that, but just because it IS HARD. The player powers are unlimited, but can be only achieved if the character is not hurt. The levels are VERY varied and long - from the intro in snowy Siberia ( which starts as soon as you turn the game on), to Magneto's asteroid M, to Apocalypse's jungle fortress, and beyond. The bosses and mini-bosses come often, and each is unique in pattern. The music is GREAT. This game is unique in its quality and I recommend it to anyone who still owns a Genesis.

The best comic hero game to date.,

This review is from: X-Men 2 Clone Wars (Video Game)
X-Men clone wars 2 is the best comic hero/heroes game to be put on a console. Gameplay is the pinnacle of what games should of been during that time. From boss battles ranging from Apocalypse to Exodus, to stages ranging from Asteroid M to the Savage Land, gameplay is exciting and challenging. Graphics are the best as far as 16 bit games of the 90's, and it didn't hurt being released on the best 16 bit system of the world, the Sega Genesis. Controls are simple and responsive, so your frustrations will just be to the level of difficulty the game provides, and that is a good thing. I still have mine and my Sega Genesis, so it still gets played occasionally even though I own a Playstation 3, another high caliber system and game library. Hope this review helps for the nostalgic gamers and the hardcore gamers as well.
