Editorial Reviews

Born into a world filled with prejudice are children who possess extraordinary and dangerous powers - the result of unique genetic mutations. Cyclops unleashes bolts of energy from his eyes. Storm can manipulate the weather at will. Rogue absorbs the life force of anyone she touches. But under the tutelage of Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart), these and other outcasts learn to harness their powers for the good of mankind. Now they must protect those who fear them as the nefarious Magneto (Ian McKellen), who believes humans and mutants can never co-exist, unveils his sinsiter plan for the future!

X-Men 2: X-Men United
The evolution continues in this "exhilarating thrill ride" (Seattle Post-Intelligencer) that features the extraordinary original X-Men--along with amazing new mutants possessing fantastic powers that have to be seen to be believed. In the wake of a shocking attack on the President, the X-Men face their most dangerous mission ever. They must stand united with their deadliest enemies to combat a menace that threatens every mutant on the planet. But could this new alliance backfire and annihilate the human race? Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Hale Berry, Famke Janssen and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos star in this breathtaking, action-packed spectacle that "may be the best superhero movie yet made!" (San Francisco Examiner)

X-Men 3: The Last Stand
Experience the awesome power of The X-Men's epic, final battle. Join well-known mutant heroes and villains, and meet a cadre of all-new warriors -- including Angel, Beast, Juggernaut and Colossus -- in this thrilling, explosive adventure! After a controversial "cure" is discovered, mutants can choose to retain their superhuman abilities or give up their unique gifts and become "normal." When peaceful mutant leader Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) clashes with his militant counterpart, Magneto (Ian McKellen), the battle lines are drawn for the war to end all wars. Bursting with nonstop action, spectacular special effects and exclusive extras, X-Men 3: The Last Stand is a force of nature that "will blow you away!"

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Heroic Hugh Jackman “breathes the fire into Wolverine” (Miami Herald) — with a vengeance! This pulse-pounding action thriller sinks razor-sharp adamantium claws into the mysterious origins of Logan/Wolverine: his epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed/Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber), and the ominous Weapon X program that unleashes his primal fury. Along the way, Wolverine also encounters legendary new mutants, including Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Gambit (Taylor Kitsch). You’ll go “berserker” for this deeper, darker, more-spectacular-than-ever chapter of the X-Men saga!

X-Men: First Class
When Bryan Singer brought Marvel's X-Men to the big screen, Magneto and Professor X were elder statesmen, but Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) travels back in time to present an origin story--and an alternate version of history. While Charles Xavier (Laurence Belcher) grows up privileged in New York, Erik Lehnsherr (Bill Milner) grows up underprivileged in Poland. As children, the mind-reading Charles finds a friend in the shape-shifting Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) and Erik finds an enemy in Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon), an energy-absorbing Nazi scientist who treats the metal-bending lad like a lab rat. By 1962, Charles (James McAvoy) has become a swaggering genetics professor and Erik (Michael Fassbender, McAvoy's Band of Brothers costar) has become a brooding agent of revenge. CIA agent Moira (Rose Byrne) brings the two together to work for Division X. With the help of MIB (Oliver Platt) and Hank (A Single Man's Nicholas Hoult), they seek out other mutants, while fending off Shaw and Emma Frost (Mad Men's January Jones), who try to recruit them for more nefarious ends, leading to a showdown in Cuba between the United States and the Soviet Union, the good and bad mutants, and Charles and Erik, whose goals have begun to diverge. Throughout, Vaughn crisscrosses the globe, piles on the visual effects, and juices the action with a rousing score, but it's the actors who make the biggest impression as McAvoy and Fassbender prove themselves worthy successors to Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. The movie comes alive whenever they take center stage, and dies a little when they don't. For the most part, though, Vaughn does right by playing up the James Bond parallels and acknowledging the debt to producer Bryan Singer through a couple of clever cameos. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

4.0 out of 5 stars The complete bundle of X-Men on Film September 26, 2012
This is a bundle of five X-Men movies. Please note that this is not a box set, it is just the five movies sold together - each movie comes in its own separate blu-ray case. Video/audio quality varies by disc, but is generally excellent; these discs also include a variety of special features that take you behind the scenes of the making of the movies.

The X-Men movies hold and important place in film history; the first film in the series is often credited as the film that launched the golden age of comic book superheroes on film. Both the original X-Men and it's sequel, X2: X-Men United, are well regarded among audiences. The final film in the trilogy, X-Men: The Last Stand, is not nearly as good as its predecessors - but it's still a fun movie with great action sequences.

Also included in the bundle is the spin-off titled X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which looks at the early days of Logan (perhaps the most popular character in the franchise). And finally, X-Men: First Class is a prequel which examines the history between Professor Charles Xavier and his friend (turned adversary) Magneto.

My own opinion is that the X-Men films are not quite on the level of Nolan's Batman trilogy or Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. However, these movies are very entertaining, and there are interesting themes related to society's acceptance/rejection of the mutants that parallel our own problems. In terms of technical achievement, I would single out the costume design and the makeup work as top-notch.

If you've never seen the X-Men films, or if you're a fan but have yet to buy them, then this Complete Collection on blu-ray is the perfect set for you and comes highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just A Heads-up For Everyone October 5, 2012
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
Note: I have two Blue-ray/ DVD players. One is "Region A or 1" (the norm in the US) and the other is "Region Free" so that I can play anything I want in it (including Region A's or 1's). My Panasonic "Region Free" is only about a year old.

These Blue-ray disks has great a picture & sound. How good the movie is I leave up to each person. However, I do have a WARNING for everyone.

I just discovered that some of the "Region A or 1" Blue-ray disks that I bought on "Amazon" will not play in my "Region Free" player. But they play just fine in "Region A or 1" player.

Most of the disks that will not play in my "Region Free" player will display a "Fox" back ground with a message that reads [This disc has been coded for Region A only and will not play in this machine. Please eject this disc and play on a Region A player.] on the screen after you insert the disk. The others that will not play in "Region Free" player have different backgrounds with a similar massage.

*****Four of these five Blue-ray disks happen to have this problem!
Only "X-Men Origins: Wolverine would play in both players.

Since I have one of each this is not a problem for me, but I thought it would be useful to know for those who might only have a "Region Free" player.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buying individually is much cheaper! June 18, 2013
I just bought the X-Men Trilogy boxed set, X-Men First Class, and X-Men Origins Wolverine on Blu Ray individually and it only cost $55.47. You're paying $12 extra for this set, and it doesn't even come with a nice box for the main trilogy.

Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
Got this set from goldbox at a much better price than it is currently selling at. Be advised that this is not a box set, your getting the 5 movies just wrapped together, that said they were approx 6 dollars per movie on sale for some very good blu-ray movies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Set November 25, 2012
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
Blu Ray is the only way to watch the series. The only let-down in the series is "First Class". If you view it as a "stand-alone" movie, it's entertaining, but the history on each character doesn't exactly tie in with the original three movies.
