New Direction Requires a Course in X-Men History,
This review is from: X-Men Legacy Vol. 1: Divided He Stands (v. 1) (Hardcover)
This title, spinning out of the former "X-Men" book, follows the exploits of a brain-damaged Professor Xavier as he tries to piece his life back together. The first collection, "Divided He Stands," has a stellar creative team, featuring Mike Carey, John Romita Jr, and Scot Eaton. The covers, by David Finch, are the icing on the creative team cake.
Unfortunately, the book went right over my head. I've been reading X-Men comics since 1990, so I thought that I had enough knowledge of the past to follow along...but, apparently, I was wrong. "Divided He Stands" features frequent flashbacks to various points in Xavier's life, although Carey doesn't inform the reader when the flashbacks took place. The reader is bound to be just as lost as Professor Xavier, who suffers from a bullet-induced amnesia.

Aftermath,
By N. Durham "Big Evil" (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: X-Men Legacy Vol. 1: Divided He Stands (v. 1) (Hardcover)
In the wake of Messiah CompleX, X-Men founder Professor Xavier was gravely injured. Now he's in for the fight of his life, as he struggles to regain what he's lost, without his X-Men to back him up. Divided He Stands collects the first few issues of the re-titled X-Men Legacy, with Mike Carey (Hellblazer, Ultimate Fantastic Four) at the helm. While the story of Divided He Stands is really nothing new, it does begin the process of picking up the pieces left behind in the aftermath of Messiah CompleX, in a world where the X-Men have disbanded. Not to mention that the tale ends up being pretty harrowing to boot. The real highlight of Divided He Stands are the artwork contributions from Scot Eaton, John Romita Jr., Billy Tan, Mike Deodato, and Greg Land; all of whom turn in excellent work. All in all, Divided He Stands is definitely worth checking out, as the direction of the post-Messiah CompleX X-Men universe begins to take shape.
