5.0 out of 5 stars Especially detailed art- highly influential, May 28, 2008

This review is from: X-Men Legends Volume 3: Arthur Adams (Marvel Legends) (Paperback)
I'm amazed I'm the first to review this here. Ask any longtime Art Adams fan: it's really a must-have item. Many comic artists in particular have been influenced by his work; this paperback is among his best.

Highlights here for me...
*New Mutants Special Edition- It's 64 *amazing* pages of new mutants & Asgard! Yes, I said it: 64 crazy-ridiculous pages! One of the single, best-illustrated comic book issues I've ever seen. Insanely beautiful, detailed artwork throughout. If you thought Walt Simonson was the only one who ever did Asgard any justice, you might be surprised here. You don't have to be a New Mutants fan to appreciate this. It reportedly took Adams months to draw this; one look at it and you'll understand why. I especially like the scenes of Karma in the desert.
*X-Men Annual 9- Loki & Hela. The Asgard angle continues in another over-sized issue.
*X-Men Annual 10- Longshot, X-babies & Mojo. Yet another famous, over-sized comic issue.
*X-Men Annual 12- Evolutionary War, X-babies & Terminus. 64-pages again! For some reason, Adams specialized in big individual issues throughout the eighties. It may have had something to do with his challenge meeting deadlines, but his artwork is certainly worth it. He even makes a cameo in this issue.

Also included: his FF issues with the crazy team of Spider-Man, Wolverine, Ghost Rider & the incredible Hulk. This pristine, high quality paperback has super-slick & sturdy, glossy paper, and it's currently hard to find. Future editions will likely feature a cheaper yet still decent grade of paper. If you can find an ok price, get it!

Included in this volume:
*New Mutants Special Edition #1- Chris Claremont writes; Art Adams pencils; Terry Austin inks
*X-Men Annual #9- Chris Claremont writes; Art Adams pencils; Gordon, Mignola & Adams inks
*X-Men Annual #10- Chris Claremont writes; Art Adams pencils; Terry Austin inks
*X-Men Annual #12- Chris Claremont writes; Art Adams pencils; Bob Wiacek inks
*Fantastic Four #347- Walt Simonson writes; Art Adams pencils; Art Thibert inks
*Fantastic Four #348- Walt Simonson writes; Art Adams & Gracine Tanaka pencils; Thibert & Milgrom inks
*Fantastic Four #349- Walt Simonson writes; Art Adams & Gracine Tanaka pencils; Thibert & Milgrom inks
