5.0 out of 5 stars Fairly Good game
I will start by saying I am a huge Wolverine fan and pretty much love anything he's in and just had to get some version of this game simply because he's in it and I didn't own it yet, lol

Many people don't like the wii version of this game, preferring instead the "uncaged" editions. I was slightly tempted to buy one of those but not being a fan of anything...

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
When I first saw some video of the new Wolverine game, adapted from Hugh Jackman's return to the claws that made him famous, I was very excited. I saw blood, I saw flesh regenerating and I even saw an epic battle against Sentinels, Sabretooth, Deadpool, and others. Needless to say, it looked like a video game company actually understood Wolverine. Reading the description of the Wii version of the game made it seem that, while the graphics and real-time regeneration may not be as vivid, and the amount of blood and gore would be toned down, the other all feel of this game would not be much different than the "UnCaged" versions found on PC, XBOX360, and PS3.
Upon purchasing the game, I found it to be a disappointment. Not only was the game too easy and repetitive, Some of the villains described were not present. I understand the Wii can not handle the graphics and amount of information that the PS3 and XBOX360, but I really don't think they needed to completely dumb the game down to the point that the most difficult part of the game was not falling in the water. I had some fun with the game and reliving the movie was definitely a plus, but the game needed something to keep me wanting to play.
I did complete the game and hoped to find some desirable unlockable(s), all I received for my effort was a slightly harder game play mode, which did not make me want to beat the game again. Needless to say, Activision skimped on the Wii version as many other companies have done; if you want a good game for the Wii, you need to look for games designed specifically for the Wii and not modified from the Playstation 2 version.

I'd give the game a D+ overall

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but Average, May 4, 2009

This review is from: X-Men Origins Wolverine (Video Game)
First off, I haven't seen the movie...Anyway this is your average comic book-turned-movie-turned-video game. If only developers spent more time with video game production instead of rushing it out to stores. The game play is entertaining and a bit too easy. The bosses are push-overs and Sabertooth is overly down-played. The Wii controls are easy to learn and don't hamper game play. I would suggest to rent it first.

I thought the game was ok until I saw how much better the PS3 version was. Felt a little jyped. This is basically just a hack and slash type game. There are combo moves but generally you can get by with the basic repeated button presses. The bosses are easy to beat and present little challenge. Passed it in three days and have not touched it since.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fairly Good game, October 5, 2010

I will start by saying I am a huge Wolverine fan and pretty much love anything he's in and just had to get some version of this game simply because he's in it and I didn't own it yet, lol

Many people don't like the wii version of this game, preferring instead the "uncaged" editions. I was slightly tempted to buy one of those but not being a fan of anything with tons of blood and gore decided against it.

I decided instead to get the wii version and I have to say unlike the other reviewers I am quite pleased with this game. Though I won't lie and say its the best game ever made, it is good for anyone who doesn't like a bunch of blood and gore but still want to be Wolverine.

The one thing that annoys me is there is button combination's you have to do, the last fight (I don't know if you would call it a boss fight or not?) comes to mind. I would get so far in this long string of button combination's (there's like two parts to it I think that you have to do to kill the enemy) and at the last button would instinctively press the wrong button by mistake. Which resulted in killing Wolverine and having to start all or part of the fight over (I forget which ) to get the boss to the point, where I could defeat him.
Which got very frustrating, to get so far to just barely lose and have to start over.

All and all though for me and those people just like me who want to be Wolverine for a while but skip the blood, this game is perfect. It's not excellent but its not terrible, not especially hard to beat either as I think I did it in one night, lol.

Regardless if your not sure about it either a) try to find somewhere to rent it, b) borrow from a friend or c)buy it used (that way you don't invest much or anything to try it out).

I love it, thought the storyline was very nice, graphics were really good (in my opinion,) and I plan on keeping it and would buy it again.

(I will note though that on some levels X2:wolverine's revenge is slightly better as it is more complex and requires more thinking and planing to beat it. So, you may get your "wolverine" fix better by playing that)

2.0 out of 5 stars De-clawed, May 23, 2009
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: X-Men Origins Wolverine (Video Game)
While the XBox 360 and PS3 versions of X-Men Origins: Wolverine received Mature-labeled "Uncaged Editions" of the game, which are loaded with bloody fun mind you, every other version of the game finds Marvel's mutant mascot in watered down and toned down renditions. The Wii edition of X-Men Origins: Wolverine is no different, as the blood, gore, and visceral fun has been all but erased, and what we get here are repetitive objectives that just make the game all the more tedious to get through then it was before. Not to mention that as a whole, the game on the Wii is just clunky, unresponsive, and quite frankly pretty ugly when you get right down to it as well. I know the Wii isn't quite the graphical powerhouse, but it definitely can do better than what X-Men Origins: Wolverine has to offer. Still, the game isn't hard to get into, and isn't necessarily hard to play through either, and the game as a whole isn't necessarily terrible, but Wii owners and Wolverine fans both definitely deserve better than this. If you own an XBox 360 or PS3, you are much, much better off picking up X-Men Origins: Wolverine on either of those consoles, instead of wasting your time on any of the watered-down ports like what we find here on the Wii.

The service was great and the game is good for older children. I would not recommend it for someone younger than 12 or 13, it does have a high language content. All in all it is a good game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly a very good game but it does have a few serious problems., February 16, 2011
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: X-Men Origins Wolverine (Video Game)
This game is full of really great and fun parts but it is spoiled by some of the dumbest problems I've ever seen.

THE GOOD STUFF

You will get to do all sorts of very cool moves with Wolverine. He has a complex arsenal of moves and some brutal and devastating finishing moves. You will use the Nunchuck stick to move him around and you will fight with your B and Z buttons. There are all sorts of cool combo moves to learn as well as a decent lunge attack with the plus button. There is also a really nasty finishing move you can do with your B button. Wolverine has feral senses that can be accessed with the minus button and they come in very handy for finding otherwise invisible enemies, in fact you couldn't beat the game without them. You can also put Wolverine into a Rage mode by shaking the controls when your rage meter is filled up. The controls all work very well indeed and your skills can be upgraded as you progress through the game. You will take out the bad guys in a number of pretty spectacular ways and there is a surprising amount of blood and violence in this game considering it somehow got a "T" rating. The combat is a lot of fun.

There are several mini-boss and boss battles. These are fun as well and they all require you to do QTE button presses. These can be a little bit tricky but they are fun and look very good.

The graphics in the game are pretty good and most of the characters look like they do in the film. Voice acting is okay but can sometimes get obnoxious and repetitive. It certainly isn't the best looking or sounding game I've played but it is adequate. There are also a couple of cut scenes that are taken directly from the film.

There are numerous checkpoints on every level and you will never have to replay more than a minute or two of the game if you die (and you certainly will when you get around water). That is very welcome as I hate having to replay an entire level.

The game has plenty of cool level ups to keep things interesting and there are blob tokens to find that unlock bonus battles as well as an unlockable gallery. It is all pretty cool. When you finish the game you also unlock the berserker mode so you can go back and slog through the game again with all your upgrades intact.

THE BAD STUFF

This is probably more of a three star game but I gave it four because I did enjoy playing it a lot. However there are some serious problems here that will bring your fun to a halt in a hurry. The most glaring problem with the game is that you will often have absolutely no idea how to get to the next area of the game. This is because the game designiers decided it would be clever to have you lunge out of an area into the next one. This is far easier said than done. After you have cleared out all the enemies and found every hidden object you will OFTEN find yourself walking around and pressing the PLUS button trying to find that one tiny area where you can lunge. There is NOTHING to indicate where it might be and I had to spend up to a half hour trying to find it in some places. When you are rocking along killing everything in sight and having a great time it is quite jarring to suddenly find yourself at a complete standstill in the game play as you go around tediously hunting for that one little spot where you can lunge. It dosen't help that often the area you are supposed to lunge to has nothing that appears like it would be a target. It is simply frustrating and baffling. The game designers really brought in a downer element with this. Keep in mind that these are in NO WAY PUZZLES or logic problems. They are simply dreary segments of walking about until you luck into the right spot. I finally got so bored with this that I kept an online strategy guide open on my computer so that whenever this situation came up I could go look at the picture to get an idea of where I needed to go so that I could get on with the game and actually have some fun.

ICE AND WATER AND ROTTEN PLATFORMING
Three entire levels of this game are covered in snow, ice and water. Apparently the most deadly enemy Wolverine faces is water as he will die instantly if he so much as sticks a toe in it. You can beat him sensless, set him on fire, shock him with huge blasts of electricity, shoot him in the chest with machine guns, hit him with missles . . .no problem. Fall into the water and it is an instant GAME OVER screen (and you are gonna fall into that water a lot). For some reason three levels of this game take place in what appears to be an arctic waste land (even the Hudson farm which was located in a very sunny summerland in the film is now in a snowy wasteland) and boy will you get bored with it. You will be confronted with some of the most clunky and difficult platforming ever conceived as you jump from ice patch to ice patch while being shot from the air by helicopter (and that helicopter is also shooting out the ice you are about to jump on). You must make ABSOLUTELY PERFECT PRECISION jumps at speeds that Sonic the Hedgehog couldn't achieve and there isn't the slightest room for error. One milimeter off and you will get water on you and die instantly. This GOES ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON. When you get to Angola (in an oddly out of place flashback level) you will be so glad to see green grass and no sign of ice or snow anywhere but guess what? Now you are gonna spend ANOTHER LEVEL of jumping over water but this time you won't jump on ice, you will jump on rocks that sink if you stay on them for more than a second. I really wasn't expecting nearly half of this action game to be outrageously difficult platforming levels but that is what it is and IT SUCKS. Water everywhere. It's almost as bad as all those rings in SUPERMAN 64.

IN CONCLUSION
The game tells the Wolverine story pretty well, there are cool boss fights with Sabertooth (twice), Gambit, The Blob and Deadpool, and Wolverine is lots of fun to brawl with. His finishing moves are gruesome and fun and there is frequent blood and satisfying shouts of distress from your enemies. The graphics are decent and the game builds up pretty good momentum after it gets past the fifth level. The fun is often spoiled by ridiculous hidden lunge points and platforming so difficult only a masochist would enjoy it. I liked the game and would like to play parts of it again but I don't think I ever want to see that much water again in my lifetime. Frankly, I'm afraid of it.
