Let me start off by saying most games that tie into a movie suck, Wolverine Uncaged isn't one of them.

Unlike so many other movie games Wolverine Uncaged is well thought out and designed, like they were actually trying to make a great game instead of just making a game to sell with the movie.

In terms of how it plays, it plays similarly to God of War, some platforming, puzzles, and lots of action. It is just tons of fun having a half a dozen or more bad guys thrown at you and being able to just deal with them. That and the fact that Wolverine has enough moves and animations that each kill seems unique, keeping the gameplay fresh the whole way through.

The controls are responsive, somewhat intuitive, and just work. Can't really complain about any aspect of the controls.

Graphically the game is very solid. During a fight Wolverine will get torn apart, lit on fire, shot, even blown up to some degree and every little bit of that effects how he looks. He'll even get to the point that hes so torn up it's like looking through a piece of Swiss cheese, thus exposing his skeleton. And watching him regenerate from all of his wounds is just cool.

The game also has some of the smoothest cutscenes I've seen for a while. One thing I've always disliked about cutscenes in other games is that they show your character doing really awesome things that you can't normally do in the game. Wolverine Uncaged on the other hand, you get to do all of those awesome things.

Now some people will complain about all of the blood and gore and the fact it's rated M... I don't have a problem with that because if you've ever read ANY of the Wolverine Origins books you'll know why. And being such a fan I am glad they didn't wuss out and go for T rating. In fact if it was rated T (or E for Everyone), the game would be greatly hindered and probably be just another run of the mill "movie games" that sucks, instead of the great game that it is.

If you are a fan of Wolverine, particularly the Origins series of books, this game lives up to it.
If you are looking at getting this for your kid because they liked the movie, you might want to think twice and check out the demo before you purchase.

Don't dismiss this as another one of those movie tie in games like I almost did, you'll kick yourself.

Pros:
Is a great game that just happens to be coming out at the same time as it's movie counterpart.
Awesome action and tons of moves.
Smooth transitions between cutscenes and gameplay.
Voice acting is very solid.

X-Men Origins Wolverine is a fun action game that allows you to slice up and dismember enemies as everybody's favorite adamantium clawed mutant. However, whenever the game breaks away from the visceral combat, it feels like anything but a Wolverine game.

Concept: 9/10
An M-Rated Wolverine Game! This is a dream for most gamers and comic book fans. You play as Wolverine taking on enemy soldiers, mutants, sentinels... With the M-Rating, Wolverine dismembers enemies and performs brutal finishing movies on anyone unlucky enough to get in his way. This is the Wolverine that comic fans have always wanted to see! But the execution of this concept feels flawed whenever the game breaks away from the bone smashing, dismembering action.

Story: 3/10
The game tries to tell its own story while retelling the movie supplemented with some of the story arcs from the comics. It's a story about Wolverine, but flashes back to the movie, which flashes back to the movie flashbacks, then flashes forward to the movie, then flashes forward to the game, amidst other flashbacks. The story is so confusing, you actually feel like you have Alzheimer's. In the end, it's a complete mess. After finishing this game, you will understand why Wolverine has amnesia.

Gameplay: 7/10 (Combat) 5/10 (Other)
Wolverine feels deadly and responsive as you slash your way through hordes of enemies. He's got God of War style combos, the ability to launch and combo enemies into the air, throws, a long range tackle, and brutal finishing moves. The enemies are a mixed bag. Most of what you fight are soldiers with machine guns which is a pretty bad match-up for a guy with claws. There are sub bosses, but you fight all of them the same way. Slash them, jump onto their backs for a few quick hits and repeat. There are some exciting boss fights, and some close ranged enemies that are really fun to fight.
When you're not fighting, you're pushing puzzle blocks or platform jumping. Although the gameplay isn't terrible, most people didn't buy this game to walk on balance beams, push boxes, or jump onto platforms that retract causing you to fall to your death. One level takes away your healing factor and feral senses and forces you to crawl through vents. It's got the opposite feeling of playing a mutant berserker!

Levels: 7/10
From Ancient Ruins in Africa to Futuristic Military Bases, the levels look great. There's a mix of combat and some acrobatic navigation. If you ever feel lost, all you have to do is activate Wolverine's Feral Senses and they'll point you in the right direction and highlight all climbable ledges, hazards, and combat props. The puzzles are fairly easy and you always know where to go.

Art: 9/10
The Levels, Characters, and Effects all look great. Wolverine's healing factor is also animated. You can watch the tissue mend itself as his healing factor repairs damage caused by bullets, blades, and explosions. The cutscenes are also exciting, fun to watch, and 10 times cooler than the movie!

Sound: 7/10
The music is ok and the sound effects bring the action to life.

The game is rated M for Mature for language, dismemberment, blood, decapitation, bone snapping, impaling, immolating, slicing, stabbing, gore... etc...

Overall: 7/10
This game is a big step in the right direction for Wolverine and if Activision could make a game like this without a host of convoluted movie tie-ins, it could be great. The game is about 12 hours long and 8 hours of it are fun. Aside from a Hard Mode and Achievements, there isn't much replay value.

Buy it if you want a pretty good God of War style game or you love the latest Wolverine movie.

Rent it if you want to experience a good, solid, violent action game. It's about 10-12 hours long and pretty fun.

Avoid it if you can't stand the sight of blood, you hated the movie, or want a game with a ton of replay value.

Personally, I'm glad I rented it. It was a game that I had fun playing, but I don't think I'll every play it again.

Thanks for reviewers who mentioned that this game is NOT a movie-milk , this a really fun game , bought it the day I read the reviews .. couldn't but it down for 6 hours straight , one point though .. this is not for children , I think maybe the wii version is ment for children but not the ps3 and xbox360 versions ( hence : uncaged edition ), any x-men or wolverine fan shouldn't miss this game .

Despite the fact that it becomes repetitive and is occasionally glitchy and downright fugly (I'm looking at you, Unreal Engine and development deadlines tied to movie releases), I have to give this game props for being so full of over-the-top, kick-butt-ery that you can't help but become enthusiastic about it. The hours will fall away as you rend your foes limb from limb using one of the most iconic comic book characters ever in his BEST video game incarnation, bar none. The game moves breathlessly from one exciting set-piece to the next, consistently rewarding the player with cool upgrades and improved brawling prowess that the "just one more level" mindset is unavoidable.

I for one, cannot wait for a sequel from this same development team that is NOT tied to a movie release.

NOTE: It's been said in other reviews but it bears repeating - this is not a kid's game. The brutality and gore is very strong and made even this aged reviewer say, "Whoa!" more than once, usually when Wolverine would put his claws through someone's head and then rip said head from torso in slow motion.

First let me try to clear something up.... there is only one version of this game for the Xbox 360. The fact that it says "Uncaged Edition" doesnt really mean anything. There is no "Regular Edition" of the Xbox 360 I have seen this question posted many times on various message boards.

So im going to assume that if your reading this you already know a little about Wolverine and the fact that he has very sharp claws on both his hands. So logically he uses these claws to cut things and people with. This game is very bloody and very violent. this is not really a kids game. Heads and arms go flying off on a regular basis.

Game play.

This is where the game really excels. Wolverine has full use of his claws and his legendary healing powers right from the start. The game features an "Experience" system that enables you to level Wolverine up in a few key areas. a few of these areas include how effective his claw attacks are and how fast his healing factor kicks in to repair his injuries.

Of course Wolverine's main method of attack is his deadly claws(whether they be Bone or Adamantium). You have the option of using either a light attack or a heavy attack. Mixing up the buttons will allow you to unleash some pretty brutal combos that normally end up cutting off some poor guys head or arm. You also have a grab button that allows you to either quick kill and enemy of toss him across the room. There are plenty of more moves that you can use to rip your enemies apart i just listed a few here.

Graphics.

The graphics are pretty good but can sometimes stutter a little and the framerate will drop if there is a lot going on. The Wolverine model is great! the more damage you take, the more it shows. And trust me you will be taking some heavy damage in this game and you will see Wolverines ribs. Its pretty cool to watch his skin grow back and heal his wounds.

Cons.

Not really much to say here but there are a few things. First is that the load times can be kind of long. Sometimes as long as 30 Sec. between levels. The game can be glitchy and you might see some odd things like Wolverine getting stuck in midair during cut scenes and stuff. But i have yet to encounter any game-breaking glitches. The story is really where the game drops the ball. The game constantly jumps between Wolverines past mission and his future missions. It doesnt really flow right....but its not really that much of a big deal but its worth mentioning.

The game can get a little repetitive. You will find that you can get through the game pretty easily by just using one or two moves so have fun and mix it up.

Overall

I really enjoyed this game a lot. If your a Wolverine fan then you really need to pick this game up or is you simply enjoy a good hack and slash. There is something really satisfying about leaping onto a guy from across the street and impaling him with your claws only to pick him up and slam him onto a spike on the floor.

This game is awesome and rated M for a reason. Their is so much blood and the ability to cut off legs and arms is crazy. I wont let my son play this game due to the nature of this game. The fight sceens are awesome and you watch wolverine get chunks blown from his sides or face and watch it all come back within seconds. Their are several people to kill and plenty of bosses that will take time to kill so be patient. You start the game on your mission and you go though flashbacks of your original mission in africa. None of you states ever change in the game but your claws do. In africa you have bone claws while in the present, you dont. You earn eperiance for every kill so you have the ability to upgrade your health, claws and special fight moves. You also earn exp by finding dog tags from your dead non-mutant teamates. their is about 90 total so a walkthrough is needed to find all of them. The most memorable fight was with the sentnial and this game is worth owning.

The only downside is that if you start a new game, all the states of kills and dogtags will be lost and they will start at 0. If you are looking for acheivements, get them all in Normal and then play on hard for the last acheivements.

This game is an easy way to get more gamer points. all but 1 achievment can be gotten by playing on the easieast difficulty, and when you beat the game to can jump around to checkpoints on any level.

WARNING: This game is extremely graphic and gory. So, this isn't the best choice in video game for younger gamers.

I have to come right out and say it: This is an excellent video game, and the best based on the character Wolverine, yet. As well, this, in my opinion, is one of the best superhero games produced to date. It is not, in my opinion, in the same category, or of the same quality of Batman: Arkham Asylum, as some have stated, but it is much better developed than most of the other superhero or movie tie-in games out there.

Overall, this was well developed video game with good graphics, good, responsive controls, and is just good, 'ol-fashioned, violent, gory fun. I wouldn't go so far as to state that this game hosts a ton of replay value, except for the hardcore fans of the character.

For the $ 12.99 that I paid for it here, on Amazon, I'd have to classify this game as a "steal". It is one of the few titles that I would have felt as if I'd gotten my money's worth in paying full retail price ($ 60.00).

I was having a blast slahing things up as Wolverine but then I turned into Tomb Raider in-between action sequences and that killed the mood. This combined with a boss fight wherein I was gliding toward said boss dodging debris and the like, would land on the boss do my stuff rinse repeat. . .BUT when the third of these attacks came about I couldn't manage to press B enough to do what i had to so I just kept attempting over and over and over and over and over. . . Finally after a HUGE nerd rage I gave up and decided to try later knowing I'll have to do a lot of that all over. On a side note, I hate that "test your might" crap! I can only press abutton so many times so fast, why? why is that fun?

Yes, I know it's hard to believe, but I actually like playing this game more than I liked the movie. I'm a huge comic book fan and a big fan of Wolverine in particular. This game does everything right, and is just a blast to play.

The combat is quick and brutal, as it should be. The enemies are numerous, but it takes more than one swipe to kill even the lowliest of them, making you feel like you're fighting real people instead of cardboard cutouts. My favorite aspect of the combat is the new lunge ability. You target an enemy with RT and lunge-attack with LT. The best thing about this attack is that you can jump 50-60 feet and optionally brutally stab or throw the enemy after landing on them. You can use this tactic as often as you like. I found myself constantly lunging between groups of enemies to avoid gunfire.

This game really makes you feel like you're fighting as the invincible killing machine that is Wolverine. I recommend this not just to Wolverine fans, who will love it, but also to anyone who likes God of War style fighting specifically or fighting in general.
