4.0 out of 5 stars The plot and characters are well written.
As a long time fan of Marvels Avengers, X-men and the Hulk I found the story line very interesting. It kept me in anticipation of the next page and then the next book.

versus
2.0 out of 5 stars A little flat
I was a bit unimpressed with the wrap up of an otherwise very fun trilogy. With so many heros on the loose it seemed hard for the author to focus on the story. Book three moved too quickly through the various plot lines and gave me some pretty cloudy resolutions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why can't the Avengers have their own trilogy?, January 4, 2003

After all, the X-Men have several. This is a review of book#1 (the data base tends to mix them all together.) Greg Cox reminds me of Roy Thomas writing Marvel comics in the 60's and 70's. He can take the Marvel characters and advance them a step further while maintaining their original essence and actually improve on them. I never really liked the Hulk and Iron Man that much until I read this book. I also liked his approach to the relationship between the post-divorce Vision and Scarlet Witch. The climax battle at Niagra Falls is awesome; it is as vivid as an actual comic book while supplying details that could only be described in prose. It takes a good writer to do that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book.........I coudn't put this book down, September 8, 1999

This review is from: X-Men: Search and Rescue (Gamma Quest Trilogy #2) (Paperback)
This book was very well written. I used to collect comic books years ago but I stopped because it seemed like the comic books were all art and no story. But thanks to greg cox's gamma quest trilogy all I had to worry about was plot and no art. I was so impressed with this story that I'm looking forward to the conclusion of this trilogy. Thanks Greg for showing us that it not just how good the art is but how excellent a story can be without colorful splash panels on every page of a comic book.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a book worth the time it takes to read it., September 2, 1999

I enjoyed reading this book. It kept me intersest and turning pages. I am so liking the character developement. I've never been a huge Beast fan, but he is enjoyable in this book. I am very intrigued to see the development of Storm and Iron Man's relationship. They are both great characters and would be great together.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something for both long time fans and new readers, July 12, 1999
By A Customer
Greg Cox does a great job in writing this first of three trilogy books. One thing I wanted to note was how well he handled each character (both Avengers and X-Men) - showing us their thought processes and providing new readers with enough background on the characters, how they relate to other characters, etc.

My only hope is that Greg does not feel the need to do the same recapping (ie. covering the same ground) again in books 2 and 3 (except with new characters coming in naturually). That is one thing that would ruin the series for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cox Is Great At Epic Fight Scenes, June 30, 1999
By A Customer
Though I liked the painful predicament of Wolverine, Rogue, and the Scarlet Witch (and especially appreciated Wanda's reaction to meeting Rogue), the whamdinger of a final battle at Niagara Falls is the highlight of this book. What a scene of total chaos, excellently done!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait., June 23, 1999

Greg Cox does his best writing for Marvel to date with this novel. He has done an excellent job of keeping us in suspence by revealing only one of the villians near the end of this episode. The seven characters he has chosen for the search party looks to be an interesting interaction for the rest of the trilogy. The trio of captives has given us fantastic reading already (nice slam Wanda). I would give this novel four & a half stars if I could. However, this Hulk's mental capabilities confused me in light of other works recently published. That being my only real problem, I shout, "Buy this book! It is EXCELLENT!" Maybe books 2&3 will clear up my doubts.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super Reader, August 6, 2007
If the Leader and friends and Gamma Sentinels weren't enough of a problem, how about some teammates being take over and used against you. Wolverine you wouldn't expect, and wouldn't want to face, the Scarlet Witch is scary, and Rogue's mind is a little fragile to start with. Then there is still the Hulk to worry about, speaking of unstable.

This is one of the best X-Men books I have ever read. I loved it. It got me so involved I couldn't put it down until I'd finished it. I havn't felt that about a book for a while now. If you love X-Men I definitely recommend this book.
