I was looking for portable speakers for my DVD player. I have gone through 2 sets (I use them ALOT). The first set had a built in amp so it had a nice deep base sound but they were $75. The second set I had were cheap $20 pair got really distorted when they got loud. So I was looking for somthing that was a combonation of both in-expensive but sound great. Thats what you get with X-Mini MAX II Capsule Speakers. They don't have as deep of sounds as my first set but they are no way as bad as my second. I cranked these speakers as loud as they went and got no distortion. They are VERY portable and sound great for there size. The key idea is they sound great for there size!!!!. I definatly recommend for portable video and music players of all kind (including phones).

This is my third set of X-Mini Speakers - I also purchased one black "egg" pair and a set of X-Mini II speakers, which I link together for very good sound. As a frequent traveler, this combination is perfect for me. Unfortunately, within several months of getting the red speakers, one of them just died. I have had no trouble with the black ones so I'm not sure if it's just coincidence of if the red ones are somehow inferior.

Great for Travel,

The "egg" is great for travel. Has good sound (not great without a bass station) but for the size and weight it's great for what it is designed to do.

Certainly not something you want to listen to at home all the time, but they offer good sound for your IPOD or computer while on the road. Easy to store and easy to pack and carry. The vendor was prompt and offered a good price. All in all, a good purchase...glad I did it.

terrific bargain,

For their size, these speakers produce amazingly high-fidelity sound
at room-filling levels. I use them with my laptop to show videos to my students and they fill the classroom with sound. Narrations are clearly intelligible, music sounds great. Because they are USB-powered, I don't have to mess around with power cords anymore. And besides, they are cute as the dickens.

i'm not sure what cnet was talking about - i should go back and read it again. it got me to buy the x-mini max 2. i had the altec im-237 and gave it to my grandson(one speaker)so i could buy the x-minis (two speakers). now i have to order a new altec and send back these minis because the sound is not as good from the minis. the sound is ok and much better than a lot of these little, cheap speakers but the altec is much better and similar in size and weight. maybe it's the rechargeable lithiums that get them excited. rechargeable is cool but sound is better and, besides, the speakers recharge through the usb port on your computer. i attach my speakers to my ipod when traveling. the computer usb port requirement is not as convenient as a package AAA batteries. and then there is the sound!

Great little portable speakers. Sound is very good given the size. Naturally you can't expect too much base at this size, but overall a positive experience.

I ordered these to use with my ASUS Transformer tablet. The design is very clever and they appear to be fairly well made. However, they suffer from some real quality control issues. When I received them the Right channel unit was dead. Plugged it into the other plug on the cord--Nope! Not the cord--the speaker itself. I will note that when I was unpacking them, the speaker switch was already in the On position, whereas the one on the Left channel unit was in the Off position. Seems like someone had tried this and might have been aware of the issue.
I did plug the mini-earphone plug into the earphone jack just to see how it sounded. Not too terrible for the size. With one defective channel they are being returned. They are suffering obvious quality control issues and they need to sort them out. As I was poking around, I found the Sony SRS-M50's at BestBuy. They price matched Amazon and I bought them. They appear to be very well made. For the size the sound quality is amazing--there is some actual bass content. They are NOT blue tooth, but will work with anything with an earphone jack. They will run off of 3 AAA batteries and are more than worth it at $32. I know that some people criticized the lack of volume on those units, but I have to wonder if they had batteries loaded or were simply trying to run them as non-powered speakers off of the audio source. They can be made obnoxiously loud and still play quite clearly. Works for me...

I was pretty dazzled by the five-star reviews of these speakers, describing their awesome sound. I am a victim of feeble Macbook speakers, looking for portable speakers that will boost the bass and volume. I expected too much. Now that I've had these speakers for a week, I think it's important to remember that they are impressive FOR THEIR SIZE. They're indeed super cute, each no larger than a tennis ball. But if you're into sound quality and fidelity like I am, you won't be that impressed with the sound. Specific gripes include: a lot of white noise/static comes through when the speakers are on. It's not too noticeable at louder volumes, but during quiet music you'll hear it. I also find the on/off switches on the speakers are awkward to reach and use, and I want to use them often to save the charge. I do like the setup of the USB charger and power cord, the way it's connected to the headphone jack so that you aren't dealing with another wall outlet. The speakers having their own volume control wheel is also nice. I'm glad I own these speakers for times when I'm on the go and just need to project basic sound (they ship with a cute little pouch to really drive that portability home), but I'm sadly still having to turn to headphones for any kind of really quality listening experience. |
