X-Mix 3: Enter Digital Reality

This might not be the best mix that either Richie Hawtin (plastikman) or John Acquaviva have spun, but it does capture the feel and progression of their touring show of the mid-late 90's.

As labelmates for several years, Richie and John's mixing/production talents grew up together. On tour, John would spin house, disco, and techno from 9-12am, then Richie would bring the minimal, acid, peaking vibe until 3 or 4. If you haven't had the chance to experience them together, this will give you an idea of what once was.

For an updated and expanded listen, listen to any of John's later full-CD-length mixes (all very good), then try Richie's "Decks, EFX, and 909" or "DE9 - Closer to the edit".

X-3 combines two excellent Acquaviva & Hawtin efforts! Although I am a much bigger Hawtin fan, the Acquaviva set is the better of the two with a relentless barrage of sweet beats and smooth transitions. Both DJs pull some of the finest material from label mates (inc. Speedy J), and do justice to virtually all inclusions. Seek and ye shall thank!

John Acquaviva's mix was pitiful: mediocre tracks w/ a mix to match. Richie Hawtin's mix relied soley on his EQ effects, otherwise it carried no weight: tracks and mixing couple of notches above John's mix, but that's not a compliment.
