First Book For One Of TV's Best Shows,
By
This review is from: The X-Play Insider's Guide to Gaming (Paperback)
I'm not much of a video game player, but X PLAY is one of my favorite shows on TV. While essentially a video game review show, the writing on it is so smart, so funny, filled with all sorts of obscure pop culture references, it feels like it was written by Quentin Tarantino, Dennis Miller and the writers of THE GILMORE GIRLS combined. Some of the best comedy writing anywhere. And Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb are the best comedy team on TV.
Now, they have released their first book. X PLAYS INSIDER'S GUIDE TO GAMING At close to 500 pages, this book is filled with game reviews, interviews and stories by the cast and crew of the show. It is a must for all fans and for those looking for video game reviews. The only drawbacks to the book are the reviews just aren't as funny without Adam and Morgan reading them. And, the book has the look and feel of a computer manual. While there are a lot of photos in the book, they are all in rather washed out black and white. Plus, with all of the talk in the book about certain skits they performed, I wish they had a companion DVD to watch some of them. It is a good book, although it is more for the people who watch the show for the reviews rather than for the writing. Still, it is well worth buying. I give it a 4 ... out of 5.

A Disappointed Fan,
By
This review is from: The X-Play Insider's Guide to Gaming (Paperback)
Don't let the title totally throw you, I wasn't completely disappointed, but there are several flaws with this book, stopping it from being something much better. First of all, the cosmetics of this book were not too great, lots of grainy black and white pictures. Also the thing that really started to grate my nerves was all the typos, misspellings and format bloopers. I wasn't really looking for them, but I bet there was one big error per review, including repeating verbatim entire paragraphs!!! I mean come on, for a show that nit-picks games, they should have really edited this book a lot better. Now the reviews in general were pretty good but I'm asking you, what the heck was up with the review of Prince of Persia, it was insane, I can't believe they published that thing, I read it sometimes just for a laugh it's so bad. So it seems like the book was really rushed, probably to get the reviews out for games that are still relevant, but that's just the thing, I don't think that published books are really the best medium for this kind of venture. Stick to websites and TV, this book will become totally irrelevant in two or three years. But to end this positively the reviews are good and pretty funny and I liked getting the interviews for an inside look so for fans it might be worth it.
I give this book a... 3 out of 5. Sorry guys, but I'm brutally honest and I'm concerned about people throwing away their 20 bones.

I'm not a big fan of Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb because many times they spend the majority of their time being ignorant and sarcastic towards famous people who have nothing to do with video games whatever, which is probably just a clever way of wasting time to avoid talking about the main thing they *should* be talking about, and that's video games.
However, I will give them a lot of credit for being some of the most intelligent reviewers on television. They aren't afraid to call it exactly the way they see it, whether it's about video games or those unrelated things, and they're obviously both very smart, knowledgeable people. I just wish they didn't feel the need to speak their mind seemingly every other sentence. It really does become a distraction. There aren't many video game review shows on television, and we really need Adam and Morgan to focus on the games. A little bit of sarcastic humor is okay, though. Just a little. Also, a note to the G4 network- just because we like video games doesn't mean we are fans of Star Trek. God no. However, this book is a decent read and you mine as well read it if you are a loyal viewer of X-Play.

A Book to go with one of TV's best show,
By Craig Collins (NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The X-Play Insider's Guide to Gaming (Paperback)
X play is basically a show about video games. They preview, and review them. Here is the low down on the book:
PROS: Detailed reviews which will aid you in your decision as to whether to or not to buy them The Reviews will produce a few cheap laughs CONS: Not one review by Morgan Plenty of spelling errors and mistypos Some Games that have been given 5s are not in here. There are more flaws than Pros in this book. However, as a loyal fan of the show, I can say, this book is worth 20 bucks. Not the greatest review but its everything you need to know about the book. A 4...out of 5

Well... it has the name X-Play...,
This review is from: The X-Play Insider's Guide to Gaming (Paperback)
The book is off of my favorite show. But, the book is kinds boring. The only thing this has to do with X-Play is the interviews with the cast and crew and the rating of the games. The reviews are written by random people that work there, and make no refrence to Morgan or Adam. The typoes are nothing big. But, it is a good refrence for old video games, well now old, and it's also good for people that don't watch the od episodes or watch old reviews on YouTube or read the reviews on the computer.

OK, as I write this E3 '06 is going on...it seems that these books tend to sell during the holidays and during the summer when E3 goes on. So you might want to pick up this book as it's a reminder of the X-Play of the past in readable form. It as mentioned by other reviewers, does has some editing issues but overall is a fine collection to the videogame book library. Fairly thick with a lot to read, the price is reasonable. Pick it up...it's X-Play :) .

Great book for guys AND for girls...,
By Michelle "wrestlingprincess" (Chicago) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The X-Play Insider's Guide to Gaming (Paperback)
This is a great book from a great show. One of the best features of this book is the female view of games from Morgan. It's so cool that she is in a girl in a guys world. A lot of people forget that there ae girl gamers out there.

Adam rocks, Morgans Hot!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The X-Play Insider's Guide to Gaming (Paperback)
This is a really awsome book, a must have for any video game fan. I wonder if Morgan or Adam ever read any of these reviews and see what people think of their product. Adam and Morgan are my idols. I wish that I could meet both of them, they are the best duo on television in my opinion. Adam is who every video game fan wants to be best friends with and Morgan is every video game fan dream girl. She kicks ass and rocks at games. If Adam or Morgan happens to see this then I would love to know, please write a review for your book saying that you've read it and telling me who it is, I would also like to know what video games you two are playing, i'm playing GTA San Andreas, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Jak 3, Sly 2, Metriod Prime 2 echoes, Viewtiful Joe 2 and DBZ Budokai 3.
I know you 2 didn't think much of DBZ Budokai 1 and 2 but I would like to know what you thought of Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 and Viewtiful Joe 2, I already know what you think of the other games I listed. I hope you 2 keep filming X-Play for years to come and keep making thousands of gamers across the country laugh and be entertained. Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb are the most well know people on G4techtv and the best at what they do, my name is Corey S. so if you write me a review back please add my name so I know it's to me, I hope someday that I can meet both of you in person and play some games with you, that is my dream. One more thing, This review says that it was writen by a kid but I don't have my own amazon account so I can only do reviews under the kids section dammit. Please, Please if you get this write me back, Goodbye |
