This review is from: X-Rite Eye-One Display LT, Accurate Monitor Calibration for the Cost Conscious Pro (Electronics)
Used this device to calibrate a Dell LCD monitor. The unit comes with a DVD instructional video which explains step by step how to calibrate your monitor. The DVD needs to be updated to reflect the newer model ,however as there is an unnecessary step in on the DVD that may lead to confusion (you do not have to place the Eye-One on a black surface to calibrate it). I emailed tech support on this and they promptly emailed back a satisfactory answer to my question. You can also use this on as many monitors as you like. The whole process takes about 15 minutes (but warm up your monitor for 30 minutes prior).
This unit and its brothers are the standard for calibration. Do a search on the internet and you can confirm this. I have also seen the Eye One used to calibrate an LCD HDTV, but have not tried this myself. My photographs when printed professionally seem very consistent to what I see on my monitor. I could not be assured of this before calibration. Good product.

Very easy to use profiler for my Windows XP machine, takes about 10 minutes to run through its auto process and your done. As a pro photographer, accurate color is critical to me. My LaCie 321 monitor was pretty close color wise but I noticed a gradual color shift over the last year so the Eye One gives me confidence that I'm not going to have color matching/ printing problems down the road.

Vista-64 Driver hell. Throw Installation Disk in Trash,

This review is from: X-Rite Eye-One Display LT, Accurate Monitor Calibration for the Cost Conscious Pro (Electronics)
Step #1: Take a pair of pliers and twist the included installation disk until it breaks and then throw it in the trash. You will be far ahead if you do.
Step #2: Go to these web sites and download the latest software. http://www.xrite.com/product_overview.aspx?ID=758&Action=support&SoftwareID=724 http://www.xrite.com/product_overview.aspx?ID=789&Action=support&SoftwareID=768 Step #3: Install the application software. Then make a subdirectory in the application folder called USB Drivers. Copy the drivers from the second link above into the USB driver folder. Step #4. Plug your Light Sensor USB device into a spare USB port. Go to the control panel and click install hardware. Select the USB driver folder to pick the appropriate driver. Step #5: Rename the stupid GretagMacbeth program startup folder to something logical like Eye-One Display. Step #5: Restart your computer. That should do it.

Really important tips:,

No doubt this is the best calibration tool for the money. Couple of tips that I learned during the process:
Make sure the surface of your monitor is *really* clean. By really, I mean with a proper screen cleaner, not just a rub down with a tissue. There may be film and or dust buildup on the surface that you cannot see but will affect the quality of light. (especially if it is an older monitor). The first few times I calibrated it didn't seem to make a better improvement. Although it did change, it seemed a little off by my eyes. (This was based on some reference images that I know to look good through work.) I cleaned the surface of the monitor really well and after that, it seemed to make a much better improvement. I did this several times. Another tip, make sure you reset your monitors OSD settings, and clear any Adobe Gamma settings applied to your video card prior to calibrating. These things will also affect the calibration process. (They mention that in the instructions. Don't ignore it.) I consider myself to have a pretty good eye for color but I'm only human and need a tool like this to keep me in line. Glad I did.

Go with another product, software very buggy,

I do a lot of print design and wanted to have my monitor calibrated for correct color. It will calibrate your screen, but if you want to edit these settings down the road there aren't many options and the software is buggy at best. I'm looking for another option.

This product was very difficult to install on my Windows 7 64-bit system. It took me nearly 4 hours. It was also somewhat difficult to use. The program assumes you know a lot of color adjustment language prior to using it. There were missing links relating to help on the website.
