This perch advertised as "safer than sand" but upon its arrival I would have to say this is not true. The textured pads on each side appear to be a sandpaper like substance and upon vigorous rubbing small bits fall off. If a bird were to chew on the perch, it could ingest small pieces of this sand like substance. However, the fact that the roughness is only on the sides of the perch is good and besides the sand falling off thing it is as advertised. I would not buy again.
