Wow... I started liking Super XX Man before I knew there was a Super XX Man, via Silver Scooter. I started liking Silver Scooter because of the Blue Law album. After I acquired and digested all of the Silver Scooter stuff I started researching and found out about his Super XX man work because I needed more. It was really weird because it wasn't a voracious need for more...just a feeling that there was more that needed to heard.Although Silver Scooter never made me do backflips, there was something very comfortable and familiar about it...like a favorite chair. I could always enjoy it...no matter what. To this day, I don't understand how such simple songs had such staying power for me. But, I'll tell you this right now., I think his Super XX Man stuff is stronger than the Silver Scooter material. It's really hard to articulate what I like about his music...and maybe that's part of its magic. I can tell you this...it's soothing...it's real...it's intimate (you feel like he's playing right there, for you)...it's raw (as in not overproduced)...it's full of beautiful (but often very simple) melodies... it's often sweet and upbeat, but not syrupy (you get the distinct feeling that right around the corner, there's darkness). His music is like an easel there for you to fill in with your thoughts and experiences. He starts it out for you to finish it. I really can't begin to recommend a particular album from him, they're all good. This one might be a good place to start. If you get his entire catalog, you'd have multiple versions of the same songs...however, two things are surprising about that 1) you'll love each version in different ways 2) his earlier versions are actually sometimes stronger than later ones. I'm sorry...I have to give him and this album a five. (I can't believe there are so few reviews out here for him!)
