Okay, well my thoughts: the graphics are def better on this system. There isn't heavy cell shading at all, instead you get 3D looking graphics. The only draw back is that the screen is a bit too small for the game, its better to apperciate on a console. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great game, but with a serious bug.
Be warned, there is a serious bug in this game. If you save before the final boss fight, all your saves for this game will be corrupt, and you will not be able to play the final level if you need to load from a savepoint.

The newsgroups warn you to upload your saves to PC, or never turn the game off (use sleep mode). Do so.

Otherwise it was fun...

Okay, well my thoughts: the graphics are def better on this system. There isn't heavy cell shading at all, instead you get 3D looking graphics. The only draw back is that the screen is a bit too small for the game, its better to apperciate on a console. And the load times for each level or area ranges anywhere from 10-20 seconds (usually the later). HOWEVER the psp version does have its perks. Not only do you get EVERYTHING (including the movies)from the original platform version in this version but you get a ton of exclusives. The first sets of exclusives are 4 ADDITIONAL unlockable characters. The characters are: Nate Grey, Cannonball, Cable and Dark Phoenix. The second exclusives are 9 additional missions (which are called comic book missions). These missions include the following scenrios: X-cutioner's song, Age of Apocalypse, Fatal attractions and much much more!

So if your a big X-fan and you have/want a PSP...def get this game. The cast becomes more diverse with the additonal characters and its always fun to play more levels!

5.0 out of 5 stars SNIKT! SHKOW! BOOM! BAMF!, September 3, 2006

I'm a HUGE X-Men fan and found this game to be very exciting and enjoyable. The storyline definitely gets props from me. Usually you get a mediocre story coming with a video game, but not this story!! Loved seeing the Brotherhood team-up with the X-men versus Apocalypse, Mr. Sinister, and his army. The cameos were awesome, with some including Pyro, Kitty Pryde, Destiny, Sebastian Shaw, Emma Frost, Stepford Cuckoos, Alpha Flight (James Hudson MacDonald), Ka-Zar, Sauron, Beast, Lady Deathstrike, Blob, Forge, and many others!
The gameplay is the funnest part of the game. I had fun using Cyclops's optic blasts, teleporting Nightcrawler and hearing BAMF!, kinetically charging playing cards, hearing Wolverine go SNIKT!, and smashing Sentinels with Juggernaut and Colossus. This game acts and feels like an RPG too. You can level up, buy/sell X-items, talk to NPCs, and more. The sound was also very enjoyable: Most of the voices matched the character, Patrick Stewart's voice is Professor Xavier, and hearing each character's power sounds clash sounded great.
There are tons of areas with Xtraction points to save your progress. The downside to the game, however, is the slow load times. But the good thing is that each area is fairly large, so you won't have to constantly move to one area to the next waiting for it to load. A nice extra is the online play. So if you know a friend who has this game, call them up and ask them to practice in the Danger Room with you!
This game really grabbed my attention, and I enjoyed it very much.
Highly recommended. 5/5

4.0 out of 5 stars Best portable RPG available, January 21, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: X-men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse (Video Game)
I am a veteran of gaming. I have played RPGs since Wizardry came out 26 years ago. This is one of the best portable RPGs available. Amazing graphics for a hand held game, deep story line, full voice over cut scenes with the many of the original cast members, complete ability to customize your super heroes and great replay value make this a must have for any RPG fan that owns the PSP. Where does the replay value come from? Playing the game through with different super heroes changes the game. It took three times through the game for me to have a chance to unlock all the characters and bonuses and I thought I looked everywhere. Make sure you play the side missions to get all the bonuses unlocked (don't cheat, what fun is that!), stick with one team through the entire game to really get them leveled up and make sure to take a flyer in your group!

One down side is the load times and occasional pauses in play. This is a result of the UMD format and the massive amount of information that must be loaded into memory. Without that one issue I would have given the game a 5. Definitely a must buy for RPG fans!

Excellent game, very addictive, and much replay value. This is a must buy for anyone who owns a psp and who loves x-men. The cheats available for the game also makes worth while to play.

This review is from: X-men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse (Video Game)
This game is great. I hadn't played my PSP for about three months until I got this (I don't like racing games). I was even thinking of trading it in, but thanks to this game and GTA I'm glad I held on to it. This game even includes the system update. For all of us super comic nerds there are hidden comics in the game that open comic book levels and hidden characters ( X-man!). This game is sweet!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great fun - If you manage to stay awake that long, November 7, 2007

This review is from: X-men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse (Video Game)
Let me start by stating that I am a HUGE X-men fan; I love the X-men Legends games. This port for the psp is an excellent buy, in terms of content. It's just as much fun as the console version (though as others have mentioned, it is a little harder to see on the smaller screen) and the extras (exclusive characters, additional comic book missions, etc) make it well worth the price. HOWEVER, there is one huge glaring issue that seems prevalent in a lot of otherwise great psp games: INSANELY long load times and slowdown. Admittedly, this is primarily a problem with the system itself, not the game (it's not the fault of the developer that Sony, in it's infinite wisdom, gave the system practically no on-board memory), but other developers have found ways around this technical issue with great success. I honestly would've preferred an exact clone of the console version if it meant reducing the lag time; the extras, while awesome, don't make it any more playable. It seems kind of ridiculous that once I hit the pause button and go to the character status screen, I can make myself a sandwich in the time it takes to GET to the character status screen.

If you can get past the load times, and lag (it tends to slow down a bit when there are a lot of powers going off at once, especially if there are a fair amount of enemies on the screen)then this game IS a lot of fun. Nagging technical problems are the only thing that keep it from being a truly stellar game.

4.0 out of 5 stars X-Men Legends 2: Rise of the Apocolipse, January 10, 2006
A Kid's Review
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: X-men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse (Video Game)
The sequel to X-Men Legends is a good game. They're are 4 new characters if you want to know them continue to read if you don't go to the next paragraph. The characters are Cannonball, X-Man(yes not x-men X-Man), Dark Phoenix, and Cable. They are all fairly strong. These 4 are just for psp so there's a bonus. There is a disappiontment with this game however. You can not unlocked characters as you go along, as XML did. You pretty much start off as Wolveriene, Magneto, Storm, and Cyclops. There are other characters that you unlock during the game, well after beating the game. You unlock Deadpool right after you beat the game( any setting) and you can unlock Professor X by beating all the DangerRoom missions. Iron Man is by far the hardest, you must find hidden objects throughout the game. They all are exceptional characters.
The game is interesting yet this time they focus more on strategy then just fighting. They show that much more during boss fights. This time you must fight Appocolypse which is equivalent to Master Mold in the first XML. The boss fights are fairly easy. From Grizzly to Mr. Sinister they have a variety of people you see and fight. The manufacters say that it has a more open feel to the game, and yes, that is true. The first XML felt very squishy expecially when all four people are playng and you all need to fight. This has the feeling that the map is almost endless. Some of the X-Men that you played with in the first XML were kicked out, suck as Psylocke, Magma, and others. One thing that bugged me about this game was that the Brotherhood followers (such as Mystique, Sabertooth, Havok, and Pyro) you can't play as. You play with the not so classic characters, such as Scarlet Which, Juggernaut, Magneto, and Sunfire.
One new feature to the game is that you start out with the game being able to choose costumes for the characters, while in the orginal XML you had to beat the game and then you could. Another feature is all the new moves that you can do. In the orginal game you could only have 4 preset moves. In this game you can choose from 6 to 8 moves. Rogue now has the torpedo strike which is a nice addition to the powers. The graphics are pretty good, they may be able to compete with the old XML graphics. The controls are pretty simple and you can adapt to the quickly, the only problem that I found was that in the begining I thought that the arrow buttons was the way to move, which I later realized was the way to use your potions and energy.
This game will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole way through. The gameplay is nearly endless if you want to unlock Professer X and Iron Man. They storyline is quite clever and you will never expect what happens. If you haven't played the first X-Man Legends (XML) then you may be confused but don't be put down, you could still play this game and you would know whats happening. I'm sorry but I forgot that there is another feature just for the PSP, you can play in the comics that you find( They're called Playable Comics). Thank you for reading my review. Here is my review simply put in a scale of 1-10, 1 being a disgarace of technology and 10 being, let's go add it onto the greatest achievement of man.

This is how I found the game (remember this is just my opion not yours)

Graphics- As far as PSP goes this is pretty good but not fantastic.- 7/10

Sound-With every different stage a new song this is pretty good.-8/10

Controls- Easy to get used to and easy to see on the screen.-9/10

Replay Value- Sorry, but this is just okay at replay, maybe 3 times at most.-7/10

Boss Fights- I wanted to put this on just to let you know that they are kind of easy.-6/10

Characters- Funny and entertaining, true to the comics.-10/10

Storyline- It interwebs the kicked out characters into the stroy very nicely and neatly.-9/10

Overall- Good game, I recommend you to get it.-9/10

If you are frustrated with lack of games for the psp, consider getting this one. It plays about identical to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1, except I actually like this one better. The only not good thing I can say is that I wish there would have been more characters to use/choose from. But the levels are very good, and the story line is great. If you liked Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 on the psp (have heard all bad things about MUA 2 on the psp), and if you need a reason to dust off your psp until the new Metal Gear and SOCOM 3 come out, I would highly recommend getting this game. Oh, and get here, because good luck to you finding a copy of it in a game store.

I've played Xmen Legends 2 on PS2 and PC and its a solid and entertaining game no doubt. This portable version has all the content from the previous versions, however the game performance has taken a hit on this psp version. The load times in this version are just plain brutal, im talking 20 to 30 seconds between areas and even when you hit the pause button to bring up the character screen you are looking at about a 10 second wait and that just plain stinks something awful. There is also some slow down here and there as the game stops to access the UMD during play and sometimes just pauses the game for you. I am still able to enjoy it, but the load times make me want to just install the PC version i have. This is great game though, just free up some time for the loading if you want to give it a try.
