5.0 out of 5 stars I love this baby
I've been following the X10 product line for a long time. When I first began building my first home, my mind was racing with the possibilities that X10 offered. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not what you would expect
I thought the reviews for the other buyer were accurate, but after installing the product, I find the picture to be less than useful. Most of the time, the lighting has to be in perfect condition in order for the picture to come out clearly. When I install in on my front porch, I could not make out the picture of any visitors that came to my house with my porch light...

This review is from: X10 XCam2 WideEye Tiny Wireless Color Video Camera (Electronics)
I've been following the X10 product line for a long time. When I first began building my first home, my mind was racing with the possibilities that X10 offered. The biggest thing I wanted was to be able to see who was at my front door on my TV before I got up. I really don't like to sales people. I wanted that feature also for my children to check the door when my wife or I weren't home. The problem is that I didn't want to run video cable from my front door to my living room TV. That's where the XCam2 wireless video camera comes in.

The camera came with pretty simple instructions, the video receiver, and the power supply (when they say wireless it's not completely true, unless you get the battery pack). The camera is only a couple inches tall and wide. The video receiver has an antenna (that you try to point to where your camera is), a power supply, and a RCA video out. There are video receivers that do sound too but those are more expensive.

My practice installation worked without any problems. I just simply hooked up the video receiver to power and than to my TV. I hooked up the camera to power and told it to turn on. Bang, I was seeing myself on my TV. The range on this thing is pretty good, up to 100 feet according to X10. I currently have the X10 attached to the side of my house and have the video receiver in the basement, and the signal is very good. For those interested, I have the receiver hooked up to a modulator (turns RCA video & sound and puts it onto a cable channel) and have it put the video signal onto my cable system before it splits off to all the TVs in the house. So now anytime I turn to channel 60 (configurable) on any TV, I get to see who's at the front door.

The XCam2 camera is a color camera and it does a pretty job of broadcasting the color video that it records. The XCam2 camera is not a Night Vision camera (X10 has these too). Unless I have the lights turned on, I can't see anything on the camera at night (other X10 products helped fix this by turning on my front porch lights when needed). X10 say that this camera is weather resistant. I've had it on the side of home for over six months now (through fall and winter) and it stills works great. Overall, I highly recommend this product to help secure your home and to help give you more options in your home.

The Camera works for the purpose we have it for! It is at the front door and at the middle of the houses. Thanks, Kevin

X10 is a great company
