5.0 out of 5 stars WOW
I went out looking for a new scanner and found it would only cost me 4 bucks more for this all in one and since I hate my printer I decided to go ahead and get it.

First off it sets up so easily you don't even need the directions. It is SUPER quiet when it scans and when it prints, I was so amazed since my last printer (epson) and scanner were so darn loud.

This printer is amazingly quiet and crisp, I have no complaints about it, especially for its price. I also have a Dell A940 multifunction printer (in reality, its actually a Lexmark X5150) and that is much noisier and more expensive. My problem with this printer was with the installation. It scans very fast, even when using a higher res. it scans rather quickly. I am very impressed.

Colors print out very clear, pictures look like they came from being developed as well. It is pretty compact as well and doesn't take up much room. I love that I now have extra space by getting rid of the scanner I had.

Lid also lifts up higher so you can scan thick documents and books.

No need to go out and spend over 100 or more from a 3 in one, I paid 88 for this puppy and am very happy with it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't beat it for the money, September 17, 2003
This review is from: X1150 Multifunction ( Color ) - Copying (up To): 13 Ppm (mono) / 5 Ppm (color) - (Office Product)
I just setup this all-in-one and it was very easy. It is very quite. I have another color printer (Epson) and a laser (HP) and they are both louder than this one.

The quality of the color is great however I haven't been able to get any images I print to be crisp. The images come out perfect on photo paper though. Small text looks great. This is good if this will be your only printer. I usually print with the laser, but this would be a great alternative if the laser every went down. The text is better than my New Epson that cost lots more.

I bought this all-in-one because of the copy and scan features. I was replacing my scanner and this was a good deal so I went for it.

I am impressed and feel I have spent my money well.

I gave it a 4 stars because I would have liked to have a legal sized scanner/copier bed and color images don't prnt crisp enough on plain paper. (FYI... I already tried to fix the blurriness with the alignment tool.)

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Buy & Upgrade, November 27, 2003
This review is from: X1150 Multifunction ( Color ) - Copying (up To): 13 Ppm (mono) / 5 Ppm (color) - (Office Product)
I waited over a year to get rid of my old printer and upgrade to a printer/scanner. My old Lexmark 1000 inkjet, however, just wouldn't die. When I saw the Lexmark X1150, and saw the price, I decided to buy it and just toss the old printer. I'm glad I did. I have a Gateway 500S series, running Windows XP, and setup for this printer could not have been easier.

My only complaint is that the printer did not come with the USB cable necessary to hook it up to my computer. So $20 bucks later I bought the cabletoo. I was a little miffec, but then I was told that no printers come with USB cables (anymore). So, the price is a little deceptive if you actually want to use the printer with your computer, because you'll have to pay extra for a USB cable.

I installed it on a PC running Windows 2000 Professional and the scanner would not work. After trying all Lexmark's troubleshooting suggestions, I went to the Lexmark web site and found that the drivers supplied with the printer/scanner do not support Windows 2000. I had to download a new setup from the website and once I did that, everything worked. There was nothing in the documentation that suggested the operating system I'm running on this PC was not supported and that would have been such an easy thing for Lexmark to do, it would have saved me a couple of hours of angst.

The Lexmark PrintTrio All-In-One Printer - X1150 is truly a nice product...only problem is it is sole without the USB device cable...I bought one and came home to set it up...I was so excited until I found out the USB device cable was not included in the purchase...I had to go back out and spend another $15.00 buying one...but all-in-all, the printer works really well and is a great money investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good! Very impressed, December 28, 2003
This review is from: X1150 Multifunction ( Color ) - Copying (up To): 13 Ppm (mono) / 5 Ppm (color) - (Office Product)
I purchased this 3-in-1 printer at Walmart and it has met my expectations.
Just remember to buy an A-Plug/B-Plug USB cable.

Here are several Pros and Cons:

Pros-

1). It's very easy to use. No documention is required.
Just follow the SIMPLE install instructions (plug in printer power and USB cables, start up install software, and so forth) and you'll be ready to go in about 5 minutes tops.

2). Quite powerful for the price. I was expecting bottom of the barrel scanning, printing, and copy capabilities but it has met and exceeded my expectations.

You can expect slightly less than Laser Printer quality at the fast print mode!!

3). Did I mention it was easy to use? I was making photocopies of documents within 30 min of installing the printer.

4). The printer itself is aesthetically pleasing and everything (compartments, panels, etc...) are intuitive and easy to manipulate

Cons-

1). For MOST people, printer cartridge prices are the biggest gripe. Am I right? $28 for a 10mL black cartridge or $28 for a color cartridge.

Well for us diehard printer people, we use refill kits and bulk ink. It really cuts down on price. ANYONE here that is complaining about ink costs should consider refill kits and bulk ink - and if ink cost is the PRIMARY reason you gave this printer or any printer sub-standard marks, then you're a novice when it comes to printers.

I pretty much pay about $5 or less for each refill on this printer and my HP Deskjet 3650 (I mention the 3650 because it uses 10mL cartridges but HP only charges $10 for a new one).

Set your printer to print using Fast Print/Draft so it saves ink - you will get near-Laser quality anyhow.

Con #2) For some reason if you use Windows 98 SE and try to install this printer as a networked printer (shared from a XP Pro host), you have to pick a driver and if you use the CD, it runs the install program only to ask you to connect the printer to the 98 SE Machine. This, to me, is a major drawback.

For my HP Deskjet 3650, I was sharing it on the entire LAN at home w/o anyone asking for "special drivers" or to run an entire install process.

HOWEVER, I did not run into any problems sharing this printer across the LAN using all XP Pro machines. 98 SE is obsolete in any case, so I won't let this drawback drop my overall rating for this printer.

Con 3):
Scanner size

The flatbed scanner is a big plus - but it maxes out with letter sized paper. My Epson Perfection is larger and can scan longer documents, but in all seriousness the X1150's scanning size is adequate for MOST SOHO ops (Small Office or Home Office Operations) ... however I would have felt more comfortable with a larger scanner.

Bottom Line:
You get a modern inkjet printer, decent scanner, and a copy machine for under a hundred bux. It can't get any better than this!

Out of 5 stars I give it 4.5

I would give it 5 except I didn't like the idea of buying a separate USB cable - I mean printer companies can probably buy these in BULK, costing them pennies in the end.

This Lexmark multi task printer is a great choice- it takes little desk top space and prints/copies/scans in black/white and in color.

I use a Sony VAIO with windows xp. The set up of the printer itself was easy and came with clear easy to follow instructions. The software CD guides you through the installation process and then you are ready to go..easy to use, easy installation. Great for beginners and a great value for your money.

I purchased this printer because of the good reviews but after I tried out the printer, the black only worked for a little bit. I replaced the ink cartridge and it still had problems so I returned it for a new one, same model. The new one seemed to work just fine and then after about a month of use, once again the black ink printed only small streaks every once in a while. We tried one more and went through the same thing and finally bought a different brand all together.
