While comics are having a bit of renaissance in films lately, with several decent versions of four-color heroes making it to the big screen, still the only half-decent superhero game is Spider-Man. Wolverine’s Revenge should change all that, with what promises to be a genuinely worthwhile game in its own right. Tying in only loosely to the X-Men 2 movie, this is basically a Wolverine simulator, which traces his life from his first appearance as Weapon X in 1968 to a series of deadly battles in the modern day against the likes of Lady Deathstrike and Sabretooth.

As you’d expect, the emphasis of the action in the game is on 3-D combat and this works extremely well, with various combos to unlock and the ability to fight multiple bad guys at once. More interesting, though, is the way you can use Wolvie’s animal senses to follow scent particles in the air, hear distant sounds, and track an enemy’s heat signature. This aspect of the game works incredibly well and allows you to play the game as either an all-out actioner or a more tactical, stealth-based affair.

It’s unusual to see a comic character portrayed so accurately in a game, with all their powers intact, but Wolverine’s Revenge really pulls it off and combines it with some great gameplay and cool graphics. --David Jenkins, Amazon.co.uk

4.0 out of 5 stars A good play for X-Fans, April 25, 2003

This review is from: X2: Wolverine's Revenge (Xbox) (CD-ROM)
This is the sort of game that I like to see people making from the X-Men universe. The game focuses on an interesting character and explores his history while still presenting plenty of action and stealth challenges. One of the things I liked most about the game was the different approaches you could take. You can choose to sneak around and kill your opponents from the shadows or you can go all out and attack in a fury of claws. Either way you're bound to have a good time. This is also the only game so far where the player has full access to all of Wolverine's abilites. It was very enjoyable to use his hightened senses and his healing factor was well represented as a steadily recharging health bar. The voice acting and story were well done and there are plenty of fun extras to be unlocked, too. My only real complaint about the game that keeps me from giving it five stars is the extreem increase in difficulity about half-way through. The game suddenly gets really, really hard and some of the mission objectives are unclear. Hopefully future games will keep more of a balance of the appropriate challenges from the first half of the game without the frustrating difficulity of the second half. All in all, though, this is a great buy for X-Men fans and fans of adventure games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wolverine's Revenge, July 16, 2003

This review is from: X2: Wolverine's Revenge (Xbox) (CD-ROM)
X2 Wolverine's Revenge os a wolverines solo adventure where you get to play the ultimate living weapon and world's toughest x-Men member. As the adventure unfolds, you have many choices to make. What tactics will you employ to succeed-Stealth or all-out action? where will use your heightened senses to find clues about how to progress? How will you overcome the tremendous odds facing you in your quest? How best to manage your accelerated healing factor and Feral rages? The choices are all yours to make, WOLVERINE!!

now this Game is cool for Wolverine's Fans or X-Men Fans it is better than Spiderman and one of the best activision Games, but some levels in the game gets harder.

In The Game:
*Unsheathe your your razor-Sharp claws, unleash lethal combo attacks and use accelerated healing powers as you tear into intense action and stealth scenarios.

*Enter the realm of senses, Using your heightened mutant senses to see scent particles and detect heat when tracking enemies.

*face off with Sabertooth, Wendigo, Juggernaut and Magneto, while Proffessor X and Beast Help you search for a cure.

well i still havn't finished the game and i'm Sure you will Have Fun Playing This Game.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best there is at what he does, June 6, 2003
This review is from: X2: Wolverine's Revenge (Xbox) (CD-ROM)
I've noticed something about all the solo wolverine games I've played. All of them have something to do with the Weapon X project. This one, though, is the best. It starts out at the Weapon X base in 1968, and shows Wolverine escaping. Fast-foreward 30 years. The Shiva virus, lieing dormant until now, has infected him and Logan has 48 hours to find the cure.

The implementation of this game is great. The Customizable soundtrack option is(ofcourse) and XBox exclusive, is golden. The implementation of steath, the healing factor, and the multiple costumes is perfection. And the character voices. Mark Hamill does a wonderful job as wolverine, much better than Hugh Jackman. And who better than Patrick Stewart to do Xavier. The dialoge is true to the characters(the line "Security is tighter than one of Jean's outfits" fits so well), all because Larry Hama, former writer of the Wolverine comic, wrote the story. My only complaint is the fact that if this game is comic based (look at logan's conversation with magneto late in the game), why is Colossus there? He's supposed to be dead.

All in all, If you want to BE the best there is at what he does, this is deffinately worth your money.
