So X2011 was...let's just say soft. This one is definitely better. It's 20 songs and heavier in most parts, though it's missing it's edge in a few spots. It definitely deserves a song-by-song breakdown

1) Dark Horses - Switchfoot (5/5) - I, unlike a lot of people, was not ridiculously impressed by Vice Verses, but this song stands alone. It's a great anthem. Catchy, good lyric material, and a dark, rich sound that is incredibly appealing coming from them. I kind of wish the rest of VV had sounded like this song.

2) Tonight - TobyMac and John Cooper of Skillet (3/5) - This is kind of another exception. This fits on here the same way the TobyMac tracks always have with the X discs. Not a bad song I guess, I just kinda think T-Mac is getting a bit old and such. I have no real criticism for this track except to say...meh.

3) Need - Kutless (3/5) - This is edgier than anything off of Kutless' last release, but I get the impression it's the heaviest off the new disc, Believer. I'm gonna go ahead and say that they've lost it. I miss the Kutless that could love God and communicate that in a culturally relevant way. When they just wrote from the heart, they wrote Jesus music that people who don't know Christ could sink their teeth into and maybe come away changed. That's gone.

4) Awake and Alive - Skillet (4/5) - OK. So. Here's the deal. Is this song catchy? Sure. But has anyone noticed the stagnancy in Skillet's songwriting? This song is like every song on Awake. I remember the days of Collide and even Comatose when Skillet wasn't a CCM sellout, which is what makes this X disc on the whole a bit troubling. I don't get the feeling Skillet is writing cutting edge stuff anymore from the bottom of their heart. It's just the same old theme over and again.

I have all of the X series and eagerly wait every year for the new one to come out! This year's edition looks to continue the excellence with 20 tracks and a pretty wide range of styles. If you are looking for something to pick up and try or are an experienced fan you will not be disappointed. Praise God and do it LOUD!!!

I am not able to listen to the radio very often, so I miss out on newer artists and music. I got this CD in the hopes of it introducing me to some new people, so if I found I really liked what I heard I could continue on and buy their own personal recordings. That's the great thing about collections like these: it shows you new artists and new sounds that you may not have had a chance to have heard otherwise. If there's something you don't like, skip on past it.

There are a whopping 20 songs on this CD, making it a great deal for the price. Recordings rarely have that many songs on them. Kutless, Skillet, and Thousand Foot Krutch all really stand out. If you are searching for some new stronger Christian songs, this recording is a great place to start.

I enjoy listening to this CD because of all the various artists. I helps me focus on God instead of on myself. =) This cd gets me motivated while I work out. The lyrics in the songs also speak directly to what I'm going through and encourage me in my faith.

Liked the variety of music on this cd. My kids love Skillet but it was great to hear some other artists as well.

Enjoyed it, as always. Have been buying it since the first one on 2003. Look forward to the new one each year.

I ordered the X2010, X2011, and X2012 CDs from Amazon in April 2014 to complete a collection I had: the X series of yearly "Christian Rock Hits." I had the CDs for years 2003-09, the X Christmas CD, and the two X Worship CDs, so I ordered the 2010-12 CDs. According to Wikipedia, the series ended with 2012, so these three CDs completed my set. And they are all great! The music is Christian hard rock, just perfect for my powerlifting workouts in my home gym. And the CDs are longer than most, lasting about an hour, so I don't have to change music in the middle of my workout. With working out alone, it can sometimes be hard to get psyched up, but cranking up these CDs has enabled me to put in many hard workouts. And it so much nicer getting psyched to music that glorifies my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, rather than secular music that can be degrading.

However, one word of warning: for many years now, I have been using an external USB hard drive for monthly backups and a USB flash drive for daily backups. But somehow my flash drive got write protected. I couldn't figure out how that happened. After a wasted hour, I figured it out. The flash drive was somehow write protected when I backed up MP3 files I had downloaded from Amazon. I got these free with the X2012 CD. (The X2010 and 2011 CDs were used, so I didn't get the free MP3s). I found this out as the only way I could remove the write protect was to full format the drive. I first copied everything from it onto my hard drive, then formatted it, then copied the files back onto the drive. But when I copied the MP3s, the drive got write protected again. So I had to reformat it and to copy my files again, but this time without coping the MP3s, and now it works just fine.

I am giving all three CDs five stars for the CDs themselves, but the MP3s would only get one star.
