5.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but get the patch download., December 12, 2008
This review is from: X3: Terran Conflict (UK) (CD-ROM)
Bigger and better than the previous X2/X3 games. Had a few bugs, like a lot of games, but patches are out now that fix most of them. Runs good for me.

Egosoft always is good about giving patches and free extra content.

It's a big game, so don't expect to know it all at first. It takes some time to get used to everything, but you can play as long as you want. The plot missions are just a start, the open game lets you do all kinds of things and you can play for months and not get board.

You can have more than one ship. Lots of them.
You can own stations of your own, Lots of them.
Things happen in other sectors even when you are not there.
You can give your ships orders and let them do their thing, without having to mess with them all the time, so you can go do other things.
But if you fly up alongside it you can see the paint job and hear it's engines like you were really there.

5.0 out of 5 stars X3 the odd gem in a sea of EZ quick games, January 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: X3: Terran Conflict (UK) (CD-ROM)
I have been reading reviews about this game and I did enjoy the game. Originally, I was a bit initimidated into playing it - since I heard how much of a learning curve it is. However, I found the controls intuitive and for the most part easy to understand. I will agree they are a bit chunky.

The company that is creating this game is primarily a German company and some of the word choices and sentence structure are... odd. With that aside... if you enjoy games like Freelancer and the Privateer games then you should enjoy this game. I will warn you, short games will be measured in weeks - not hours. Long games... may never be finished. I stopped playing games like this when I started to play MMO games. However, when you get bored of the EZMODE of most MMOs - this willbe a great solo game. I wish more companies and games were as complicated and indepth as this one.

Personally, I feel most companies are turning solo games to be finished within a few hours. The most recent MMO games seem to be catering toward EZMODE players or casual players. Even games like warhammer and aoc are really "finishable" within a month or so. Most players can level several 'toons' to 40 on war and, if your lucky and organized sac the enemy city a few times as well. Leaving you and your money nothing to do.

In an age where most solo games are being finished within hours and most MMOs are EZMODE - it is nice to see a long complicated game. I only wish more American companies would make complicated hard games. I would love an American version of X3 in production... a new Freelancer based on X3 perhaps?!

Lastly, I hope the next big MMO is hard, complicated, and NOT FANTASY. Eve online 2? I found eve online too late and a bit inpersonable. Bottom line: The graphics are amazing. This game is open and has a great "sand box" and a great flight sim approach. The game host a few different stories - or you can forget about them and play the open ended game. Some of the controls are a bit clunky, though. The scripting is done from German to English and the sentences are odd - sometimes. I am probably babbling - but good luck. Patching the game is required!

Is it worth the price? For me...YES!
