5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!!!!!!!!!!!
This is an awesome jazz sampler. Nothing except the older (but really good) stuff, plus it's free!!! Can you beat free Miles Davis? NO WAY!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Let's take this track-by-track
They're outtakes all but that's not always a bad thing and the price is right.

1. From the "Birth of the Cool" or "Miles Ahead" sessions, there are some missed notes but the solos really shine; it sounds like Gerry Mulligan on the baritone sax. One of the stronger tracks.

They're outtakes all but that's not always a bad thing and the price is right.

1. From the "Birth of the Cool" or "Miles Ahead" sessions, there are some missed notes but the solos really shine; it sounds like Gerry Mulligan on the baritone sax. One of the stronger tracks.

2. Ella is in top form here, her voice seamlessly blending with the instruments. Being an engineer for an Ella Fitzgerald session must have been, quite literally, the easiest job on the face of this earth. What do you say besides, "That was great, Ella!" Critics rightly point out that she's almost too perfect in that there are no rough edges to add feeling but that was Ella, like it or not. I like it--best track of the bunch.

3. What is that, reverb? Echo? Behind Dinah Washington? Distracting to this listener and frankly, too many off moments in the song. I'd avoid it.

4. One of my absolute favorite musicians is unrecognizable on this track. Charles Mingus experimented plenty but I don't think he thought highly of smooth jazz; the electric instruments make this sound like an elevator song. This is anti-Mingus and the worst track of the bunch.

5. Older recording of a classic tune. It didn't do much for me but the price was right.

Overall, some good moments at a great price.
