This review is from: XFX GeForce 7800GT 256 MB DDR3 Dual DVI Video Card ( PVT70GUDF7 ) (Personal Computers)
You know how it goes - you bring home a smokin hot piece of new tech and can't wait to get it running and start playing with it. But some little small installation issue causes problems that drive you nuts for hours. Then when you finally figure it out, you're so irritated with the manufacturer for their horrid documentation that you just walk away for a while.Such was the case with this card. I've had zero problems once I finally figured out the installation issues, but getting it installed correctly drove me nuts. I have an Alienware with Nvidia SLI motherboard, allowing me to have two video cards working in tandem. On top of simply popping the case and plugging this card into a PCI slot, there were two other things that needed to happen...neither of which had decent explanation, pictures, or details. The picture, for instance, was literally a black and white scanned copy of a point and shoot bad photo. Here's the two tasks to make sure to do when you setup dual cards: 1. On this card, there is a small piece of circuit board that must be removed and turned around. This basically tells the card that you're putting in two cards rather than one. 2. There is an odd black "bridge" that must be inserted to "lash together" the two cards. It doesn't seem to matter the direction it's put on, so long as it's firmly connected. But since the installation, I've been absolutely flying through my Battlefield 2 rounds! (Oh, and one other note... you can't use dual monitors when the SLI dual video card tech is turned on - you can toggle the SLI on/off in the Nvidia control panel) |
