4.0 out of 5 stars Low power, moderate price and decent performance
I bought this to replace the onboard graphics that comes standard with my new HP a6330f desktop computer. I plan to get a 24" LCD monitor and thought this would be a good graphics card to boost performance a bit. Don't have the monitor yet, but this card works well with the standard 300 watt power supply that comes with my HP. It doesn't require a separate power input...

3.0 out of 5 stars Normal display functions adequate; TV out problematic
For the performance of normal display functions this PCI-e display card is fine for the price. If you only intend to use it as an ordinary VGA display you will probably find it an acceptable price point.

However, my experience with the TV out function has been problematic. An internet search found people with similar stories with this series. Of course, many...

It doesn't require a separate power input and uses a double-sided heat sink instead of a power-using, noisy fan. The heat sink is only warm to the touch when operating. I'm very happy with the card after a month and think it is worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars PC to TV, June 7, 2009
This review is from: XFX PVT72SWANG GeForce 7200GS 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card (VGA / DVI / S-Video) (Personal Computers)
This video card is all I needed to hook up both my monitor and HD TV to my computer. Great for watching some online TV, (hulu and such) rather than spending all that money on cable for a few channels.

I have found no other product support as helpful as this one, They have bent over backwards to help me though the
installation of this card. I commend this company for the
highly motivated staff in the support department and thank them for their commitment to customer service. I see that less and less these days within other companies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good basic card for the price, January 9, 2009
This review is from: XFX PVT72SWANG GeForce 7200GS 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card (VGA / DVI / S-Video) (Personal Computers)
Fine card for basic desktop or HTPC applications.

Pros: Silent (passive cooling). Works well in Linux using the Nvidia binary drivers. Handles compositing well (Kwin desktop manager with Kubuntu 8.10 and nvidia 177 glx driver). Much better than onboard graphics. The Geforce 7 series support xvmc under Linux for gpu accelerated mpeg2 decoding while the later Nvidia cards (8 and 9 series) do not.

Cons: Not much faster than a GeForce FX5200 AGP card I had used in a previous setup. Did not come with a YPrPb HDTV tv-out dongle, although the 7-pin tv-out socket on the card should support component video.

For the performance of normal display functions this PCI-e display card is fine for the price. If you only intend to use it as an ordinary VGA display you will probably find it an acceptable price point.

However, my experience with the TV out function has been problematic. An internet search found people with similar stories with this series. Of course, many people report no trouble at all. It just wasn't worth it to me track down the problem for the installed setup. I yanked the card and reinstalled an older NVIDIA GeForce 5500 (regular PCI) and can switch easily between the monitor and TV or even have them simultaneously with absolute ease. This worked plug & play with all other things being equal.

Your milage may vary.

I had a older monitor and it didn't work well at all. Bought a new monitor and worked great.
