Excellent Non Reference Card from XFX,

This review is from: XFX ATI Radeon HD 5850 1 GB DDR5 2DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card HD585XZAFC (Personal Computers)
This is a non-reference version of HD 5850. The reference version (HD585AZNFC) has the fan at the end. This one has fan in the middle. The Core voltage control is disabled in this version. I purchased this card from JR through amazon.com and at that time model no. was not mentioned in the title and they were displaying the reference version image for this card. Make sure to check the model no. (HD585XZAFC is non-ref version, HD585AZNFC is ref version) before deciding and not just the image displayed. The ref version usually comes with Dirt2 coupon but this one does not.
Performance of this card is excellent. Played NFS Shift at 1920*1080 with max settings and average FPS were 55 (After applying patch 1.02). Dirt2 averages 70 FPS, GRID averages 78, Tombraider Underworld averages 70 at max settings and 1920*1080 resolution. Great value for money. This is the best card for price around 300(as mentioned in "Best Graphics Cards For The Money: May 2010" review at [...]. This card is a little over 10" in length (XFX states it at 9.5") so make sure you have enough space. Two 6 pin power connectors are required from power supply. It comes with double lifetime warranty which gives peace of mind. Make sure to register in 30 days from purchase otherwise the warranty will be reduced to just 1 year. At base voltage and clock this card is at par with its ref version. Performance might suffer at very high clocks since extreme clocks can't be achieved without voltage control. The ref version is a bit expensive also. Overall I am happy with this purchase since I am not into overclocking. This card has enough power to play available games at max settings so overclocking is not needed.

When my PC got this video card, you could sense the big difference, i had a nvidia 8500 gt by xfx 1 gb, the xfx 5850 card smash that one, i play bad company 2, splinter cell conviction, dirt 2, mass effect 2, all over 60 FPS. This one have the fan in the middle, the ZAFC. Im so happy, i live in Dominican Republic, and i got my video card intact. All i can say is this card changes my live

This card is awesome! I can play all games at maximum settings on 1920x1080 and get permanent 60 FPS (with Vsync on), and 40-50 FPS for Crysis. It's a little noisy but if you have a headset, you won't hear anything. Great purchase!

Before purchasing this card, make sure your power supply is at least 600 Watts. You also need twin 6 pin power connectors. Unfortunately my power supply does not have dual connectors. It has one, but after messing with the packaging thinking I'd have to return the card, I found two adapters that allowed me to take the connection from my useless CD-ROM drive and convert them to 6 pin connectors (you need two power plugs to make one 6 pin). After getting over this initial hiccup, this is a great card. Games such as Crysis, Flight Simulator X, MW2, etc play wonderfully at full settings with trilinear or anisotropic filtering enabled. It is quiet, the fan is excellent, and card temperature is about 40-50C idle.

As said before in other reviews, this is a non-reference card so if you plan on overclocking the card you won't be able to adjust the voltage as it stands. You can use a couple different types of software like MSI afterburner or CCC to adjust the core clock speed and the memory speed to overclock it a little bit.
I get great FPS in my games. A great upgrade from my Geforce 9800GTX+. I just bought a 2nd 5850 to run crossfire, should be awesome!

This card is great. It runs every single game available at 1900x1200 and ultra high no problem. -Before buying make sure your power supply is at least 500 W and has 2 PCIE (6PIN) connectors. -Also make sure your case is big enough, I have a dell 530 and it fit VERY VERY tightly. The card is huge -Also take into account you need to buy a $100 adapter to use eyeinfinity with 3 monitors. -Enjoy

Pros:
-Lifetime Warranty -Very powerful, I can get 40FPS with maxed settings on Crysis, over 60FPS with anything else. -Low operating temp, On factory clocks this thing never gets close to hot, not that I stare at my GPU temp while gaming but the highest I've seen it get 46c -Price, for under $300 this card is very fast, I originally intended to crossfire 2 of these but its not needed. Cons: Not really a problem since my case is a full tower but this thing is a good inch longer than my motherboard, could be a problem for someone with limited space.

I have used the card to play Crysis and it has worked flawlessly. What I really like is that it lowers the clock speed and memory speed when just at the desktop or browsing the web and when it is needed like in a game the CPU clock and memory speeds increase. This saves energy and the life of the card. I maxed out the settings and no problem for the card. Love the card.

The 5850 is a good graphics card. Its easy to over clock and runs every game i have thrown at it. Crysis, Split second, Rise of flight. Get 2 of these and SLI them and really see what happens. While its not perfect and you can get the 5970 which would blow this out of the water. It will also take a chunk out of your wallet. Over clocking this GPU takes things up a nice notch. For the person who wants something good but not willing to spend $500 + this is a good match. Do your research and get the one you need.
