Great Video Card,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: XFX RadeonHD 4890 1 GB DDR5 Graphic Card HD489XZSFC (Personal Computers)
I've been running this card in my win 7 64bit system for about a month now without any problems. The hd 4890 runs at stock speeds of 850Mhz core clock and 975Mhz Memory. However, I'm running my card with a mild manual overclock speed of 900Mhz core/1000Mhz Mem. Since I'm running my monitor at its native resolution of 1920x1200, the 1gb ddr5 ram on the video card helps a lot when I play games. Some games that I play are Battlefield Bad Company 2, Starcraft 2 Beta, and Half Life 2 source games. Most, if not all of the games I play are on max high settings with 16xAF and 8x AA.Temperature was not a problem for me partly due to my Antec 900 computer tower/case, which have 5 fans to keep things running cool. For other Antec 900 case owners, I'm using the optional cage fan and the Hd 4890 will still fit inside the case. My Hd 4890 idles on desktop at 50-51C with its fan on auto setting. Although my card is overclocked to 900/1000Mhz, the hd4890 will 'declock' itself down to 240/1000Mhz while on desktop and viewing 2d applications. (It jumps up to roughly 500Mhz Core/975Mhz Mem when watching movies or youtube videos). I believe this is to save power consumption and temperature control. When playing video games, the hd 4890 will jump back to my overclock settings of 900Mhz core/1000Mhz Mem. I do not have 2 pcie 16x slot on my mobo, so crossfire configuration setups were not an option. I believe this was an excellent upgrade from my old video card the 8800gt 512mb. Even though this card lacks dx11 features, it will run new games in dx 9 and dx 10 modes. (You'll just miss out on some tessellation features though). If you're in need of a video card now and looking for a single card upgrade solution and do not care for direct x 11 features, this card is a really nice choice.

Over the years I have used several video cards from XFX but the RadeonHD 4890 is by far the best. I prefer playing modern FPS games that are very demanding and most video cards leave much to be desired. I have found the 4890 keeps my online play smooth and my frame rates high.

This is by far the best video card I ever own. I upgraded from NVIDIA 9400 and there is a huge difference. What I enjoyed most is the ATY Catalyst Profile Manager. I created a desktop profile ( GPU = 500 MHz and Memory = 490 MHz). Even with my 1920*1200 this profile keeps the card warmth below 50C. When I have to play hard, I select the gaming profile using default speeds. There is no need to over clock. Since I have it , ATI has sent 3 main actualizations, good improvements them all. If the money is not a problem go for a ATI 5970 or 5870. If you want a good ROI, this is the option for you.

I have two of these cards in crossfire configuration for our Windows 2008 Server Enterprise edition (64-bit). I bought them specifically on the basis of benchmarks for Adobe CS4 and their evaluation on Tom's HW, and they seem to provide the advertised performance. However after going to the XFX website to get the "latest" drivers I now get a warning message after every login that the XFX configuration tool is not supported by my drivers and I should get the latest drivers from XFX.Also, while the configuration tool (Crystal I think it's called) has a check-box to enable crossfire there are no diagnostics or indicators that the cards are actually operating in crossfire mode. The crossfire cables, though indicated as being included in the box (says so on the box itself that I received) were not included in the box. Kudos to Amazon customer service however as they gave me a prompt credit and I was able to purchase the crossfire cables (you need two it turns out). Finally the documentation does not indicate which of the (combined FOUR) output connectors you should use in crossfire configuration and you can not get customer service of any kind (inlcuding download of drivers) without registering on their site. The installation/user guide on the disk provided is almost useless - only the most basic info anyone who ever installed a video card already knows, and no details about crossfire or dual-link configuration. Very annoying. I also concur with the reviews that have commented on the length. I have plenty of room in my server case, but even there the length makes it awkward to get to several of the front panel headers on the MB, and also makes for some rather more strained cable connections (due to strain relief for various connector types and header location on MB) that I would ideally like. This is borderline 4 stars, and if price/performance ratio wasn't above average these would only get 3 stars. In the process of writing this review I've talked myself down to 3 stars. One of the KSPs is the crossfire support, and the lack of support, cables, and documentation for the crossfire mode is not up to par. (Configuration tool is Catalyst, not Crystal)

What more could You ask?I replaced my 8800GT. This is a true upgrade from that! By the way, I'm using it with an HDMI adapter to 37" LG LCD flat screen! Windows based applications are crisp and snappy. Gaming is sharp and INCREDIBLE! Reason I use 37"? I'm an "older" geek. Even a 22' LCD computer monitor on a desk, is too close, causing me to use reading glasses. A couple of years ago, No Prob! but now, ouch! A 37" inch "monitor" is huge and I can sit 4 to 10 feet away and never need "readers". I use a portable rolling desk with cordless KB and mouse. I hope this helps all you older, hopeless, constant, upgrading, types! Didn't know you were in a category did ya!

Love it.Great card, it is the a great price for a Radeon 4890 card. I have three of them now in different machines, all AMD dual and three core Phenom II Works great in Windows XP and Windows 7 machines. Plays Champions Online at highest settings, which choked all my old cards. Plays World of Warcraft at max settings and looks great. 3 installs were are totally smooth, i chose to download new drivers from the web site instead of loading the drivers on the CD every time. Both XP 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit were available and worked flawlessly. They have been running for a few weeks now with no crashes. This card takes four power connectors, so make sure you have a Y cable handy it will max out your power supply. It is long too, so it might not fit in smaller cases or mobos without room. Have to crowd the cables around the end of it. It takes two slots wide in the chasis due to the onboard fan which exhausts out the back. You can't put another card right next to it. Has two DVI outputs, comes with one DVI to VGA adapter. There is no "Hawx" game included as the description says.

while the 5850 might be the target card to get, it's near impossible to do so. The 4890 is great for any resolution under 1600*1050, and is half the price it was 6 months ago. The XFX moves the fan closer to the GPU and makes it larger, so that even at 50 percent fan the card idles at 50C and runs right around 70C in L4D2 (your temps might be lower, my case sits inside a desk cubby). It's far cooler and far more quiet then the EVGA 8800GT OC it replaces (due to overheating) and good bang for the buck as long as you aren't on the directx 11 bandwagon - which, let's be honest, won't seriously be supported till a year from now anyway. Nothing really out performs it overall in the price range, at least in directx 10 performance, so why spend over retail for the 5850 - assuming you can even find one?

I recently got this card and it is a huge step up from any card I have ever owned. I am able to play all of the latest games on the highest settings with zero frame loss. I am currently playing Crysis 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and COD Modern Warfare 2. I highly recommend this card to anyone looking. This is my second XFX card and I have had great luck with both. I recommend XFX as well. If you are in need of a great gaming video card then XFX is the place to go get one.
