Original manufacturer bulb for Sony SXRD KDS-50XBR,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My bulb just recently died for my Sony SXRD KDS-50XBR, and so began the search for a replacement. After much research, I quickly found out that a lot of online stores, while cheaper, are not selling the original bulb, but rather some cheap knock-off bulb by Osram. I can confirm that if you order this bulb through StoreFrontOutlet, it is the original manufacturers bulb made by Phillips and comes complete with the housing. It even comes in the original packaging. I am very satisfied with this product as my HDTV is as good as new for half the price that Sony wanted from their online store for the same bulb. If you have the same HDTV as me, do not hesitate in picking up this replacement from StoreFrontOutlets. They are my favorite seller on Amazon!

So easy to install, even for a non-tech person....,

Philips Lighting model is the Manufacturer Replacement. I decided to go with it over other slightly less expensive replacement models. I am cautious about buying electronics online, but was pleasantly surprised when it came exactly as I had expected. Installation? Easily accessable panel door just for this lamp, one screw and it is open, pull out old one, slide in new one, replace panel door, screw shut. It is on the side of the TV, so you don't need access to the back panels. It's as easy as changing the batteries in your remote. Wish I would have changed it out earlier, as the picture got much sharper with the new lamp. You can get bulbs for about $90, and reuse the housing. YouTube has instructions on how to do it, but for $135 I decided just to go with the entire unit. I am a techinical nucklehead, and it was easy for me. I bought mine from StoreFrontOutlet thru Amazon.

Using the Philips replacement lamp is the way to go! We've had other lamps replaced by service centers who honored our warranty at the time, but the picture was never as bright as our original picture. (Not sure what brand of lamp they were putting in) However, as soon as we installed the Philips lamp we were amazed at how bright and vivid our picture was! Just as it was when our Sony was new! You've heard the saying..."you get what you pay for". We will continue to purchase only the Philips replacement lamp and will continue to do so through this seller. The transaction was perfect!

Good price, installs easily, but dims quickly,

This bulb is not the same as the OEM part that came with the TV. While it was easy to install and produced a wonderfully bright picture for the first 50 hours after that it quickly started to dim. While it still lights up, the picture quality, which was outstanding, is now only marginal. I would not recommend this item.

Even though I personally think many replacement items are very
much overpriced products from China, this lamp I purchased as compaired to what Sony wanted for the product is more in line for quality at a semi-reasonable price. I am a little older, and perhaps wiser today, and since I am on a fixed income, try to repair/replace as many items as I can. I would recommend this product to individuals thart have some mechanical ability and common sense to make their own repairs, and save some money.

While the Lamp is working fine, I found that I should have purchased the package with the housing included. I was able to change the lamps, after finding an online site, with a video.

This is the lamp you want for SXRD HDTVs.,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After doing some research to track down a new lamp including housing to replace the original lamp that blew in my Sony SXRD KDS-50XBR1 television, I found a huge range of prices typically due to the different brands of bulbs available (Philips and Osram) and whether the lamp including the housing for a quick simple installation. Typically, the lower priced lamps either didn't include the housing or were a cheaper Osram version. Based on Briton Arnold's great review on this page, I decided to take the risk and purchase this bulb since it appeared to be the same lamp including housing that Sony is selling for nearly double the price. It is! Philips manufactured the original lamp for the SXRD HDTV and with their great track record, I didn't want to use anything else. Installation was a snap, took just a few minutes, and I was back to watching HD on one of the best televisions ever made. Thanks Store Front Outlet and Amazon.

Lamp works great, just as bright as the original parts, and for less money. It is easy to replace by yourself, for most mechanically inclined people. You don't have to be an expert rebuilding engines, just look at how the old one comes out and take pictures as you disassemble the TV/lamp. There was a strange plastic cage it was shipped in that wasn't explained in the instructions well, but when I took the old one out it was obvious what to do.I have had the TV running a fair amount of daily usage and haven't had any issues with it. I would definitely wear rubber/latex gloves when performing the assembly, since fingerprints/oils/lotion degrade the life/performance of the lamp. My first lamp was the original lamp from Sony, which lasted about 4-5 years with a fair amount of use (estimated 3 hours/day during the week and 4-5 hours/day on weekends, sometimes more). I've only had this unit in for about 1 year, 3 months, but its performance is just as good as the original. Long bulb life and performance is probably also due to having had a good power filter for the TV. They are also called UPS, Filtered Power, or Power Conditioners. They clean up the noise in the line power in your house in addition to preventing most power surges, etc., which extends the life of the electrical components. One of our friends bought the same Sony TV, and without having it on a power conditioner they had to replace the lamps about once every year. A decent power conditioner runs between $130-$250. I found a Monster Cable version discontinued for $200 the first time, then $130 for my 2nd TV. |
