5.0 out of 5 stars Great MIDI Drum Product, June 25, 2010
This review is from: Addictive Drums (CD-ROM)
I have used Toontrack Drumkit From Hell in the past. While it does come packaged with some outstanding drum patterns, the sound of the drums is slightly limiting. The snare sound cannot be changed, you can't adjust EQ on just the kick and you can't add more punch to the toms... enter Addictive Drums. AD comes packed with a great interface, plenty of different drums to choose from, and full functionality in terms of adjusting the sound of each individual drum and cymbal. You can mix and match different kits and adjust pitch to get the exact sound you want. I find that AD is slightly more complicated than DKFH because you actually have to work to get a good sound out of the software but once you do, there is nothing that compares. AD also has a "remap" feature that allows you to remap the different drums to your keys of choice on your MIDI controller. It also has eDrum support so you can hook up an EDrum kit as your MIDI controller, map the drums to their respective pads, and rock out while keeping the real, natural sound that AD provides.

Overall this was a solid step up from DKFH. As I said it can be frustrating trying to find that perfect sound but once you do... The only negative is the lack of excellent drum patterns for my type of music. DKFH was excellent because it was designed around thrash and death metal and the patterns reflected that. The "metal" patterns that are packaged with AD leave much to be desired. The easy fix was to simply use the patterns from DKFH and VIOLA! This might not be an issue for everyone is little more than an inconvenience to me. I would recommend buying this product if you're looking for an inexpensive, natural sounding, fully customizable MIDI drum program.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing product, amazing company, December 7, 2010

Unlike Toontrack (whose support for EZDrummer / Superior Drummer is a bit shaky), XLN answers all questions promptly, their site is fully functional and most of all, their product is amazing.

Properly triggered, you will get REAL-sounding drums from this program, plain and simple.
