Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

In the mid-twenty-first century, an uprising leads to a completely different societal landscape, in which a plague is spreading across the world. A remarkably intelligent former slave called Freeman searches for a cure to the disease, which is spread by a bite from beings similar in appearance to zombies. In the course of his search, Freeman stumbles upon the creators of the virus, a cabal within the government whose members call themselves the Masters and which has a shocking plan for expanding its powers. In a compelling narrative full of stunning surprises, Robinson, best known for his thrillers and adventure novels, shows that his fertile imagination is equally well suited to sf. This is an exciting, richly complex blend of dystopian fiction and mainstream sf, and as such, it will attract a wide variety of readers. --Jeff Ayers

"XOM-B is an incredible ride from the first paragraph to the last jaw-dropping page... That's the genius of Robinson. He wraps intelligence and questioning in the guise of a sci-fi thriller with a little romance thrown in to boot." —Suspense Magazine on XOM-B

"With Xom-B, Robinson has achieved a rare feat by successfully telling a rich story that moves at a relentless pace while stopping just long enough to ask profound questions of existence, science, and what it means to be human. A modern Sci-Fi classic." —Famous Monsters of Filmland on XOM-B

The next sci-fi fantasy epic...with zombies...and robots....is here! Jeremy Robinson's newest tale is a dystopian future story with its own identity, reminding you of nothing you've read before and yet reminding you of a lot of things you have read or seen at the same time. This is not a zombie novel, they are just in it. That is part of what makes it so unique and original. I dare not discuss plot or characters, save to say they are a good cast and several of them will stand out as some of Jeremy Robinson's best characters, of which there are many! He creates a new world we've not been to before, and it's a strange trip we take getting to know it. Blade Runner, Equilibrium, Children of Men, even 12 Monkeys are all good examples of the type of story we have, even though none of them are really anything like this book. Well some of them maybe a little, but only in good ways. Myself, growing up in the 80's with Jim Henson movies, I was reminded of The Dark Crystal on several occasions for the feeling and shape of the story. That is an awesome thing to accomplish, in my opinion. Henson's Dark Crystal and Labyrinth are on the high side of the creativity spectrum. Why am I comparing it to all these movies? There's zombies in it, that's why. Overdone and redundant, zombie stories are still only a dime a dozen, there are so many now. This is not one of those. It's got substance, originality, plot, well fleshed out characters, and zombies. And robots! And it's sci-fi. What more can I say? I'm not giving away anything story-wise. Give XOM-B a read and experience a new story you've not read or seen or heard before. You will be pleasantly surprised. I was, and I couldn't put it down until I finished!

Yes, Zombies seem to be a popular focus in pop culture at the moment but XOM-B is not so much a zombie novel as it is a work of classic dystopian science fiction. The story focuses on all of the elements that make dystopian sci-fi work. It explores the concepts of class struggle, totalitarian government and the question of what it means to be human in an advanced technological society. It explores the nature of humanity and in the quest for a utopian society it shows how humanity can go astray in a very dark and haunting way.

Freeman, the story's protagonist, is a classic dystopian hero...one who quite literally grows in a utopian state and as he matures he learns that not all is right with the world or with his understanding of how things are meant to be, His questioning leads to continued growth, the development of trust, love and vengeance and eventually rebellion from the powers that be. All of these archetypes are woven into a thrilling and exciting novel full of action, suspense and of course a zombie plague that plays an integral part in Freeman's character development. There is a small collection of supporting characters who are all well developed and each, in their own way, plays an important role in the overall story's development. There are no "throwaway" or useless characters here. They all have purpose and the reader will inevitably develop a favorite.

Overall, Jeremy Robinson has managed to combine elements of Philip K. Dick and Issac Asimov with his own unique brand of thrilling fiction to create a new breed of science fiction. As the story progresses the reader will want answers which makes XOM-B the type of book you will not want to put down until you get those answers.

Buy this book, and put whatever you're currently reading down.

Never, have I read a book as brilliant as Jeremy Robinson's new masterpiece, XOM-B and it's highly unlikely that I ever will, again.

Being an avid horror and sci-fi fan, I liked the idea of zombies and robots mixing it up in a novel. Tittilated, I purchased the kindle edition, opened it up and read. And read, and read, until it was all gone.

Did I say liked? I mean LOVED.

Seamlessly written, engaging, and with a mind boggling twist that would give Shyamalan M Knight an aneurism, if XOM-B doesn't win awards and make its way into a movie, I will be more surprised than I was with the contents of this book.

Elegant and with Asimov like undertones, XOM-B is THE book of the decade.

Well played, Sir.

If you like robots... READ THIS BOOK.

If you like zombies... READ THIS BOOK.

And if you've never seen the two subjects in one book, as I had never... READ THIS BOOK!

My title wasn't joking, if anything it was probably an understatement. Jeremy Robinson is an amazing author, and he has said this is his best book yet. I have to agree with him - it truly is. You can get the base description from the description here on Amazon, and all I can add is that you are in for a whirlwind of surprise, grand adventure, epic storytelling, and amazing battle sequences.

What are you doing still reading this? BUY THIS BOOK and START READING IT IMMEDIATELY!

There's zombie stories... and then there's XOM-B.
There's robot stories... and then there's XOM-B.
This story not only takes two types of stories and rewrites the core elements of them (for the better) but it also adds a new depth to the whole post apocalyptic genre.
I didn't know what to expect when I started this book, but one thing is for sure - if I had to re-live my life again, this is one of the books that I wouldn't dare miss out on reading.
From the opening page right through to the final page this book is nothing short of brilliant.
A gripping, engaging thrill ride of a story with twists, turns and surprises awaits you. So what are you waiting for? Buy XOM-B now!!
You won't be disappointed!
