I bought the XS Big Dot sights for my wife's concealed carry pistol, 9mm M&P Shield. The big front sight is easy to quickly acquire when presenting the pistol towards a threat/target and my wife who is a beginner shooter says she finds aligning the sights very easy compared to the stock 3 dot sights. I've put a few hundred rounds down range with these sights and I find them to be very fast. At ranges of 7 yards or less (real world gunfight ranges) I only need to "put the big white ball on the target". 3 round "failure to stop" drills at 5 yards happen almost as fast as I can pull the trigger. I can also group shots at 25 yards with the Big Dot as well as I could with the stock sight. The Tritium is very bright and visible in no/low light situations. The sights seem to be well made. I had them installed by my local gunsmith.

I am mid 60's, eyes not so great. I started using these sights on my issue sidearm during the last couple years of my career. I found that while it takes some time to master the sight picture for distance, 15 yards and beyond, they work very well up close, where most defensive handgun fights occur. This is especially true in dim light situations.
Night sights work very well in almost complete darkness, glow brightly and allow a great sight picture. The problem is that when it’s that dark one can’t see the threat well enough to determine that deadly force is justified and acceptable.
Ambient lighting, flashing emergency lights, even a flashlight beam illuminate the threat but wash out the night sights.
With the XS Big Dot you have this pumpkin sitting on the end of the barrel, if it’s good and dark the pumpkin glows. If lights are flashing or simply to bright to let the night sight elements show you just put the pumpkin on the threat and press as needed.
I’ve installed Big Dots on a number of older officer’s weapons where they have allowed the guys to hit better in daylight and dim light qualifications.
I put them on any handgun I might carry if they are obtainable.

I had purchased and installed these sights on my compact Glocks with no issues. I figured it would be just as easy to install these on my M&P Shield, but I was so wrong. Getting the stock sights off of my Shield was a major pain in the rear. If you don't have access to a vice you might as well forget about it. My local gunshop was selling these same sights but they were $25 less here on Amazon, so I figured I was saving some money. However, my gunshop would have installed them for free and I probably could have saved myself some aggravation. At any rate, i've installed a couple sets of these before so I figured I would do it myself.

The instructions say very clearly that you should have a good steel or emery type of file handy to remove excess material from the bottom of the sights. It wasn't until I had spent over half an hour beating and marring my rear sights into place that I remembered this helpful piece of information. I did remove some of the excess material before I installed the front sights and they were a piece of cake to install.

My advice if you're going to install these yourself is to read the instructions, if you can't do that it might be worth a few dollars to have your gunsmith do the work for you.

These sights work well, wish they had the tritium in the rear but they don't. XS answered this question (FAQ #19) and states it is due to size issues. The tritium vials have to be a certain size and must have a certain amount of material around them. So there's not enough room according to them. Not an issue, these sights work well in very low light and we shouldn't be shooting at anything in the dark that we can't see, right?

I have been running XS Big Dots on my defensive pistols for about a year now, I have run them through training classes, gone out to the wilderness with em, smacked em around pretty good. They Sights are rock solid, no issues with them drifting, even during long strings of fire. I just finally got a set for my S&W Shield Back up Gun, so now I don't own a pistol without set of XS's on it! Lightning fast sight picture acquisition, big bright tritium, all around best defensive sights on the market.

I am just an average Joe when it comes to shooting and although I can and sometimes do target shoot it is not my thing. This was for defense and quick target acquisition. I am 63 and my eye are not what they once were and if I forget my glasses it is hard to focus on most front post sites. For a stock sights the Shield was better than most but James Yeager keep saying all his guns have them for combat training in all light conditions. Since I got them and installed them I could not believe how much easier it was to see and focus the front post even without glasses. The big surprise was the first night I picked up my gun, because I hear some coyotes out at the chicken pen. That front post might as well been a spot light. It was amazing how easy it was to see and it was so dark you could not see 3 feet in front of you without a light. Now,, they are not good for target shooting, because you need a very thin blade front sight to shoot high scores, but that was never there intended use.
