5.0 out of 5 stars This one does it all!!!
I just received this via North Star Ditributors and I have to say this one fantastic unit! www.regioncodefreedvd.com/jvc10.html is selling these units for around $189 but you can get this DivX certified DVD player right here at amazon for much less! I sampled a divx cd-r movie on and it played in DVD quality! Also this unit plays all of the following discs on a normal...

2.0 out of 5 stars not good enough
i should start out by saying that i had to send this unit back because it paused and skipped a lot, like if there were 15 layer transfers per dvd. but i won't deduct too much from that since hopefully it was just a flaw in my unit, and not all of them. i have a 65" widescreen hd set and am very particular about the picture quality. the problem with a high quality large tv...

Also this unit plays all of the following discs on a normal NTSC TV:

Pal and NTSC DVD's

Any region DVD: 0,1,2,3,4,5,6

DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW

Video CD (VCD), Plays MPEG-4,

DIVX (.avi)

Super Video CD (SVCD)

Audio CD

CD-R & CD-RW

JPEG Digital Still Files on CD-R/W

MPEG CD

Kodak Picture CD

MP3 Discs

This unit comes with the 12mb PAL---> NTSC video converter so this unit play your Region 2 (and others) flawlessly on a 36" TV. Kudos to the technicians who upgraded this already fine unit to play any region DVD discs! This is the best! Forget the rest!

5.0 out of 5 stars Plug-and-play, August 31, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: JVC XV-NP10S Multi Region Code Free DVD Player (Electronics)
This unit has an excellent built-in PAL-NTSC converter. It plays Region 2 DVDs flawlessly on a 36' American TV. I tried a compact flashcard from my digital camera and had no trouble running a slide show from the remote. Setting up the unit was truly plug-and-play. I bought it from North Star and it was delivered in 2 days. A terrific buy.

I have a region free cyberhome player that is complete junk next to this player. This JVC player plays region 1 and pal discs perfectly.I played it on my 53 inch Panasonic HDTV and my Epson Home Theater projector. The picture was wonderful on both.I even played a pal movie burned on a DVD+R and it worked flawlessly.I was a little nervous about ordering from a 3rd party seller(Northstar)but was VERY happy with the service.I ordered this unit on a Sunday and it came Tuesday....That's right! 2 days turn around time! On standard shipping! All in all,a very good experience.

i should start out by saying that i had to send this unit back because it paused and skipped a lot, like if there were 15 layer transfers per dvd. but i won't deduct too much from that since hopefully it was just a flaw in my unit, and not all of them. i have a 65" widescreen hd set and am very particular about the picture quality. the problem with a high quality large tv is that it magnefies any dvd player's flaws. i have a toshiba sd3800 that is a few years old and consider the prog scan picture i get from that unit first rate. this player, while the prog scan picture was ok, just didn't hold up to my toshiba. the unit did play all region dvd's fine, but i just can't settle for lower picture quality. so if you're a geek like me, don't buy this unit. if you have a smaller tv, or don't stare at the screen debating picture quality, then this unit might be for you.

I just recently purchased this with an eye for playing European DVDs. It exceeded all my expectations. The only complaint I have is the DVD tray is a little flimsy and I'm super careful when loading it. Other than that, this is a wonderful player. It plays all my existing DVDs and also the new ones I bought just recently on my trip to Europe. Highly recommended if you are looking for a Region Free player. The incorporated media readers were an added bonus.

I urchased this DVD player to watch non-US region DVDs and our expectations were met in that regard. Nice sleek look, matches VCR and cable box, so that's a plus. The only issue is the sound volume. My old DVD player (which is not by any means OLD) had volume levels that matched the TV level. This DVD player plays volume at a lower volume. Otherwise, nice product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Skipping Problem Negates Other Qualities, January 26, 2006

The picture and audio quality of this unit is excellent, and the PAL-NTSC conversion was one of the best I'd seen to date. However, about every third DVD the unit would freeze up and/or skip for no apparent reason, and it would occur on both new and used DVDs. I did some more research and discovered others who've bought this unit have indicated they experienced the same problem. Since the freezing/skipping problem appears to be rather common, I would recommend against buying this model.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty nice little player., November 18, 2005
This review is from: JVC XV-NP10S Multi Region Code Free DVD Player (Electronics)
PROS:
Plays all regions and both PAL and NTSC perfectly. Pretty decent picture and sound. Nice remote.
CONS:
The player will skip or have a picture glitch occasionally. The construction of the unit is somewhat cheap. Blue light on disc tray looks tacky.

4.0 out of 5 stars First time with multi-region player hits a homerun, December 13, 2005
This review is from: JVC XV-NP10S Multi Region Code Free DVD Player (Electronics)
This was my first experience with a multi-region player and I fully expected the worst. I have been very pleased, however, with its performance. I got the player so I could view Region 2 dvds I got on ebay from the UK. The very first disc seemed to speed up slightly in the audio in a couple of places. Since that one time, I've played it for hours with no problem whatsoever. A great find. I gave it 4 out of 5 since I want more than a month's use before calling something great.

I really love how this DVD player is capable of playing AVI files burned onto a DVD-R or CD-R. I also love the photo slideshow capability. As my wife is from Germany, the region-free function is great. But I've noticed some quirky behavior that is a little annoying. When watching a DVD, even a store-bought one, it seems that the player flakes out when a scene changes in a movie or show. I don't know if it's a problem with chapters, or if the abrupt change in video signal causes it to hang for a second, or something else entirely. Otherwise, it's a nice machine that can do some amazing things.
