I have to admit to having been spoiled by the Xavix game units for bowling and baseball. They were very easy to play immediately and did not require a lot of practice to master the basics of timing for video interaction. However, the tennis game is different. There is, just as on baseball, a training mode called rally & serve, where the balls come a little slower and you can work on learning to return the balls, but still it is harder to play this game like real tennis in comparison to playing the baseball or bowling units. The racquets are like ping pong paddles with tennis racquet faces, very cute. The practice game for learning the video simulation skills seems like it ends too fast if you are learning and at the end of each short game you have to go through a start up sequence to get back to the serve. This tends to leave you feeling like you have to quit just as you were starting to learn how to play. Due to the need to practice more with the racquets and sensors in this game, we felt more of sense of frustration than fun during some games. My husband did better treating it as ping pong rather than tennis. We both felt it needed more space on either side than the other two games so this might be better for people whose houses have uncrowded rooms where they play the game. I found myself wishing it had a ball machine type mode of play for practice that would just continuously lob balls across the net to you from different areas of the court without scoring. We had only moderate sucess with two players and think it is a matter of practicing our timing and interface with the game port, but I have to say that for two player or more games we would probably use the easier bowling or baseball first. I will play tennis for one player games and practice the interface that way but we don't feel we have the time to necessarily learn this simulation to its best advantage for multiple players. Remember, for all of these games and in fairness to them, this is a sports simulator. You have to get up and stand in front of the port unit with your racquet and swing, move, and respond to the balls being sent across court at you. This is not like sitting on a chair playing games on a keyboard giving your hands a workout. Practice is a part of these games.

We play this game more than the other more popular Xavix games, so I'm glad they came out with it and am sorry it's not getting as much attention. It does require a bit more training and accuracy than the bowling game, but we've had company and everyone has fun playing these Xavix games. Can't wait for more games.

I just received my xaivx with tennis today and already love it. It was very interactive and fun to play doubles especially using a projector system against the wall. I just ordered the baseball version too. I hope they come out with a samurai sword and fighter type games in the future because I will buy them too.
The rackets seem to sense when they are being swung, you dont have to be that accurate with placement of the racket but timing is important. It was a lot of fun, it may get boring soon but I will have baseball by then. Also, the rackets are wireless which is very nice.
