4.0 out of 5 stars Still a must-own for most gamers September 29, 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
My five-year-old Xbox needed replacing. It wasn't because of a failure with the console itself (I'd already gone through the red-rings a few years back, and the console was repaired under warranty, and worked fine), but the attached hard drive was slowing down/wearing out, causing lag in multiplayer and error messages during video streaming. Because my Xbox was an older non-Slim model, I couldn't buy a new hard drive for it, and the "refurbished" drives that Gamestop sells (really not refurbished any more than simply wiped of data and re-sold) were as old as my hard drive, or older. Thanks to Microsoft using a proprietary hard drive format, I was having to replace a working console.

For cost reasons, my preference was just to wait until the next-gen Xbox. With Halo 4 coming out, and the prospect of missing out on multiplayer with friends, I decided to buy a new Xbox.

Fortunately, Amazon had cut $50 off the price, and I was able to get the machine on this page before Amazon sold out. Because I selected Super Saver Shipping, Amazon sat on the order for a week, then shipped it in two days (go figure). As much as this new Xbox was a grudge purchase, I have to say the Slim model is a treat to use after the old white model I have.

First, I can't hear it under my desk. The white model sounded like a hair dryer, and the noise alone pushed me to use my PS3 more often. Now, the Xbox Slim and the PS3 are equally pleasant to use. Also, the smaller form factor of the Slim is appreciated. In a world where an iPhone makes headlines for getting a few mm thinner, it's also nice that consoles are shrinking.

The Slim's design looks like it was made by a hardware company, finally, and not a software giant that reaches for white plastic as a case solution.

Works great. Built in wifi is a very nice addition. Large hard drive makes game saves and installed games easy and you don't have to worry about filling it up any time soon. Great product

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I have had an original Xbox ever since the day of November 15, 2001, before that I have had a Sega Genesis, Nintendo NES, Super Nintendo NES, an Amiga, an Amstrad CPC, a Commodore 64, a DOS, a Game Boy, N64, a Sega CD, an SNES, a Play Station 1, 2, 3, and possibly 4. I've played NBA Jam on my Sega Genesis for countless hours and I've played Street Fighter ever since 1987 to its latest release in 2012, each game for many hours a week. But what consoles are my favorite? Right now, it is just the Xbox 360, I've had both an Xbox and an Xbox 360. I've played the Xbox for the past 12 years every single week. Here are all of the features and how they work.

The Xbox 360 does not require an HDMI cable but I highly recommend buying a HDMI cable immediately after buying the Xbox 360 because the AV cable does not give you graphics that are current gen standard. An HDMI cable is available at any hardware store near you and it normally only costs 5-10$ so make sure to get it after buying the Xbox.

The Xbox 360's online service is called Xbox Live and it does cost money which is not that great in my opinion. But I'm not saying that it wasn't worth it. It can give you so many great features in games when you get a Gold membership that you wouldn't get if you didn't get the Gold membership. It is extremely useful for me since I play with my friends on Xbox Live roughly 60% of the time.

The Xbox 360 features apps where you can get a Netflix app and watch your Netflix movies and TV shows while the Xbox is on. It is a great feature to have. It also has other apps which I have not really used but they must be still useful. I don't use the apps feature since I mostly play with my friends and play games on my Xbox.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Upgrade from 60Gb Pro (Falcon Model) May 17, 2014
By Joe
Much quieter than my old Xbox 360, everything from the disk drive to the fans are silent. At any given moment there is more ambient noise in my house than this console makes. The built-in wifi card is also a nice perk that older 360's didn't have.

I prefer this S model to the new E model just for its several extra ports. I might not use the optical port or the extra USB port but I like having the option regardless.

Overall this is an excellent upgrade to the original Xbox 360, the claims of a quieter console are not exaggerated. This console also holds its ground against the newer Xbox 360 E. If you are looking to buy an xbox 360, this is probably what you're looking for.

System is great. A huge improvement from the original white ones. No noise whatsoever, makes a cool sound when turned on, doesn't get the red ring, and it just looks sexy. Do reccomend.

The package arrived in a carton that was slightly damaged on the exterior but the Xbox carton was not damaged on the interior. Everything runs as expected. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a Xbox.

Product came exactly as described, a few scratches but the installed games were a plus and the extra maps that were included made my son's eyes light up! It arrived on time and in working condition. WILL RECOMMEND AGAIN!
