4.0 out of 5 stars Beat Pad is not like the pictured
I think the descriptions and images of the Beat Pad Pro and Beat Pad got switched. So the description of the Beat Pad was not correct. The pad does not have padding and is flat (unlike the pictured) Hopefully people don't buy this and think they will get the better features.

A few things about this item bothered me. It is listed as with "thick padding". The photograph of the product looks like a foam pad. I thought I was getting a foam-pad, but I did not.

The product you receive is obviously not what is shown in the photograph (the pad art is different, and the dance-pad in the photograph has contours of a foam-pad, which this does not). The arrows are not elevated, as shown in the photograph.

Instead, we have just an average non-foam dance pad. If you want a foam pad, you have to pay $30 extra for the "Beat Pad Pro" - it is sold for $70. If you spend any amount of time playing this game, you'll want a foam pad (where you can feel the arrows with your feet when you play).

Two other minor negatives: First, the pad slips more than the Konami pad which comes with the game. This was a problem even on the average "difficult" setting. Second, the arrow sensor size was smaller than what I expected. You have to touch part of the graphical arrow - if you miss by 1/4 inch, it won't set it off.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Performance., December 15, 2007

If you are only playing a bit, this pad is fine. But know that it is very slippery at the bottom and if you have wood floors like me, it will move constantly while dancing on it.

Also, the material is plastic, and not the same kind that comes with the game, which is shiny and somewhat durable. No, this plastic is not as high quality. And it doesn't lay flat on the floor like the OEM pad. The edges peel up. This could possibly be fixed by leaving the pad unfolded for a long period of time, but I don't want to do that. And as someone mentioned before, the buttons are not at all elevated, so you can lose your orientation easily while playing.

I rate this a 2/5 because it is still useable, though it is very annoying. Avoid if possible. Get an OEM pad if you can.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS PAD, December 14, 2008

Contrary to the listing or even the packaging, the product lacks the "rubberized no-slip bottom material". The pad will slide all over the place without some adhesive material to prevent it from moving. The OEM Konami pad is a much better purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars Review for the Matt only, not the game, January 18, 2008
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Xbox 360 Beat Pad (Accessory)
The matt works fine, but the reset button is on the "handle" of the matt, right in the center. It is very easy to inadvertently tap it with your foot instead of the up arrow, which throws off the whole game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely necessary to play DDR at home, September 7, 2008

Absolutely necessary if you want to play DDR on your Xbox 360. The mat that comes bundled with the game is bad because it slips around, and you can't feel where the arrows are with your feet.

The Beat Pad and Beat Pad Pro are a thousand times better... foam puzzle pieces hook together to form a mat you slide inside and zip up, so it's comfy to jump around on (I am a 170 pound woman in her 30s who bought this to lose weight in a fun way, and it's comfortable for me to jump around on it). The arrows have square pieces of plastic under them, so you can feel the area where the arrow is with your feet.

The mat registers steps well (although I am on beginner and basic mode, so I can't speak for people playing the game at a high level). It's not even worth playing the game without this mat. I plan to buy a second one so I can play it with my husband or a friend.

Things to know: The only difference between Beat Pad and Beat Pad Pro (as far as I can tell) is that the Pro version hooks up with the headset to play online. I have the Pro version, but I probably didn't need it because I don't play online. That said, I don't know how the regular version would have been.

It is not wireless. Maybe they've made a wireless version since I bought it, and that would be nice because I have a tall TV, and I have to run the cord up on top where the Xbox is. It has a USB connector on the end and plugs into the front of the Xbox.

Once you put the foam inside it, it's not easy to take back out, and you should not roll up the outside covering for storage. I store mine leaning against the wall. If you had a tall sofa, you could store it underneath... it is large, bulky and not foldable.

1.0 out of 5 stars WORTHLESS DANCE PAD, May 24, 2011

This review is from: Xbox 360 Beat Pad (Accessory)
DO NOT BUY THIS PAD! It is completely useless, and on the SECOND DAY of having it the up and down arrows register while standing in the middle of the pad. If you buy this your basically buying the materials, cause as a controller it's a complete waste. I honestly cannot believe mad catz would pollute the market with something so utterly worthless. Save your money for a visit to the arcade or for a decent custom pad, cause I'm now stuck with a 14x13 piece of plastic.
