5.0 out of 5 stars Only surpassed by the ION Drum Rocker
This drumset is extremely responsive and durable. The pads are heavily rubberized, which makes less noise than an original Rock Band 1 kit. The pedal is extremely durable and, after half a year, has shown no signs of wear or damage. Stock drumsticks have started to splinter and chip. Third party drumsticks are recommended, such as Promark 5ANs or Ludwig 5ANs. Acceptable...

3.0 out of 5 stars fun while it lasted, July 1, 2009

First of all i would like to say this game is a lot of fun and a great invention. The drums are very realistic, and so are the beats. As a real drummer I can say that it realates well to actually playing drums except for the fact it only has two cymbals and three drums.

THe first thing that broke on my drum set was the hardware and the stand. Occasionly i would find screws and bolts that go on the drum set on the floor. I have no clue how they got out of place. The next thing that broke was the orange/crash/ride/right cymbal. it would not work if i hit it, even with a very large amount of force. the next thing that broke was the yellow/high hat/left cymbal. same problem

all of that happened, and i havent even had the game for a year yet.
One thing is that i played this game at the expert level and played it everyday usually more then once. So you could say i was hard on the drum set.

The game is very very fun and enjoyable and even better when playing with other people or online. THe only problem is the drum set breaks. I recommnd buying the game and drumset because it is totally worth it even if it does break in a somewhat short amount of time. For me, I did not mind replacing it because I love the game so much. But instead of replacing it with the Guitar Hero brand drums, I bought the Rockband 2 set which consists of only four drums heads and a foot pedal but no cymbals. That alone costed only 40 dollars. I also bought the three cymbal expansion pack for the rockband drums for only 40 dollars as well. so i get three drum heads, and three cymbals for cheaper then this drumset which is less sterdy.

So i recommend buying this drum set first, to see how much u like the game and if u experienced the same problems i did, then buy the rockband set and expansion pack for 20 dollars cheaper. HOPE THIS HELPED AND HAVE FUN

My drum set broke about 2 weeks after I brought it. The orange symbol went first then the yellow. Very annoying, I basically wasted 100 dollars because I only got to play on them 2 or 3 times. I was warned about the lack of durability but since my last drum set was guitar hero and lasted about a year I thought it would be okay. Well now I will definitely not buy this product again and am switching to a rock band drum set. I am very disappointed in this product but can't give it a complete bad review because even though I won't be able to send it back, so I'm still out 100 bucks, Amazon was willing to take it back. As someone who has owned this product twice and both times it has broken, one time almost immediately, I 100% recommend you don't get this and get a rock band drum set. It's a shame too because I have been an Amazon customer for years and this has been my only bad experience with Amazon.

PLEASE do not buy these drums! After about 2 weeks of moderate playing problems started. Now, not even a year later, every time I play there is a problem. I had to disassemble it and fix the wiring underneath. Activision warranty service gives you the run around too. These are poorly made and designed. They are extremely frustrating to use. They also can't withstand being repeatedly hit with a metal baseball bat... I'll chalk that up to poor build quality.

The drums are great, of course, it takes some getting used to switching from the rock band drums to the guitar hero drums. But, once you get used to it they re so much more fun to use.

Purchased as a Christmas present and when it was opened and put together it turns out the orange symbol doesn't work. Will have to find a replacement. Otherwise, the product came promptly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dont really play GH but..., November 9, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Xbox 360 Guitar Hero World Tour - Stand Alone Drums (Accessory)
I got these as a gift from a friend, who gave me the World Tour whole kit an caboodle for xmas. I, for some reason, have always preferred Rock Band to the GH franchise, so I played with him for 2 days till he shipped out of the country and then used them for RB. I had only had the guitar controllers before, so I gave the drums and singing a chance now that I had the controllers. Now, I am one of the only one of my friends that can play drums on any difficulty higher than medium (depending on the song) in rock band. I have had this set for almost 2 yrs, and with the release of RB3, I finally found a problem. Whilst playing a david bowie song, the yellow cymbal started to not register hits as it should. I was really frustrated. Fortunately, I'm a RB guy, so I just switched the orange and yellow, problem averted for now. Overall, I'm not that great, but this set has treated me better than some of the other reviews here, I'm not sure if I hit with less force (although I think its supposed to be pressure sensitive for GH World Tour), but its lasted quite some time for me. My mother in law had the beatles RB, her set lasted 2 weeks...

Also, for me, foot placement on the kick seems really important for me. I'm a depress till you kick guy,(hold kick down, lift, kick, leave depressed) and for some reason I have to play barefoot. Thus, being plastic, make sure you dont have sweaty feet (plastic sticks a bit...im a sweaty guy) or move your foot past the sweet spot (double hits, when I cant reliably do it on my own).

In summation, its worked for me very well in comparison to other stories I've heard. I doubt I'll ever be a real drummer, but this has been a fun product, with some slight annoyances.

3.0 out of 5 stars A realistic drumming experience, May 8, 2010

I'll focus this review on the drum set itself, as the game mechanics of actually playing it will vary from game to game.

First off, it is worlds more realistic than the original four-pad Rock Band kit. The raised cymbals do a lot to add that nice touch of accuracy, but I personally have found them to be not as sensitive as the other pads, and I had to train myself to give them a little extra "umph" when I hit them. I also wished they could be adjusted on the horizontal plane because they overlap the pads below them when looking from above. This is a problem as my 6'1" frame tends to tower over the kit, which itself doesn't go up very far either, though I suppose you could stack the kit on something if you don't play in such a way that you would knock it over.

Another difference from the Rock Band set is that there is not as much noise when you hit the pads - I no longer drown out the song as I play.

There is an option to add in a second kick pedal, which is a necessity if you want to play the songs that have an "Expert+" difficulty option.

Out-of-the-box assembly isn't too hard, even if you don't get the manual with it. It does look a bit flimsy though - I have to give the Rock Band kits an edge on that one.

I played Rock Band drums for 2 years and decided to switch. The Guitar Hero drum kit is more realistic. The only knock I have on them is how far the drums can be extended upward. I am 6ft. 5in. and can barely get my knees under them at full extension. I prop them up on storage bins when I play.
