Took a while to find it at a reasonable price, but finally got one. It's light, has nice artwork on the body of the pad, and feels much more intuitive to the my Street Fighter needs. Don't pay more than retail for this controller; wait for them to be available in stores.

It's better than the xbox 360's d-pad, but still not great. Madcatz still went with the "disc on a stick" design(what's wrong with the old-school SNES d-pad style?), and although I no longer accidentally jump when playing SF IV, the controller feels hollow and cheap. I would describe the d-pad action as "squishy," and I fear for the longevity of the controller. Having all attack buttons on the face is definitely an improvement, however the shoulder buttons feel absolutely cheap, and create an obnoxious punchy clicking sound when pressed. There's no reason for this on a forty-dollar controller.

Ultimately, I bought this because of the 360's horrible d-pad. If I had a PS3, however, I'd definitely prefer the system controller over this, as the attack button layout wasn't the problem, and I don't care for "floating" directional pads.

Again, not worth paying more than retail, wait it out.

P.S. Shame on you, Microsoft, for not allowing third-party controllers to have wireless. Jerks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great controller but prone to defects, October 11, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

In theory, this is a great controller. The button layout mirrors that of an arcade machine and the floating D-pad makes doing the traditional motions for special moves in 2D fighting games much easier than the standard 360 controller.

However, the specific controller I received had a defect in the D-pad so the diagonals didn't work consistently. I know of more than one person who's had the same problem, but I also know people who have had no problem whatsoever. So obviously not every controller is problematic.

I'm getting a refund from Amazon for this controller, but like it so much that I'm going to purchase another one in hopes that the D-pad in the new controller works correctly. If you buy this controller, be prepared to go through more than one before you find one that works correctly.

Most importantly, I don't false-jump, an unforgivable, embarrasing, infuriating hassle I frequently experienced while fighting online with the regular 360 controller. Also, I can execute combos more efficiently, and doing Guile's Ultra move (one of the harder Ultras to perform) now feels almost easy.

So, basically, it's better than the basic 360 controller, and more suitable for SF4 than any of the other pads I tried using (to little effect.)

Verdict: Good controller, thanks.

After 1 day of having this controller it began not working properly. I highly recommend spending money elsewhere than purchasing this product, what a waste!

My friends and I call this the Nerd Controller. When we bought Marvel Vs Capcom 3, using the D-Pad on the regular X-Box 360 controller was just not cutting it, after about an hour our thumbs would start hurting. So we heard about this controller and decided to invest in it. This controller is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, it has improved our game by 50 percent. Button locations are great and the controller overall is very lightweight, if you are a true fighting game fan, please get this controller, it TRUELY makes a difference. My roomate and best friend got the Ken controller inorder to honor Ken since he isnt in Marvel vs Capcom 3, and I got Ryu. These are excellent controller, invest if you want to reach your full potential. Oh my friends Xbox GT is OO7JBond and im QuikasLighting, come challenge us and see the skills we possess.

1.0 out of 5 stars Low-quality Dpad, December 20, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Xbox 360 Street Fighter FightPad - Ryu (Accessory)
I am surprised at the high rated reviews this product has gotten. I am a fighting game enthusiast and know a good Dpad when I try one. I loved the old-school Nintendo Dpad, and the Playstation 2 Dpad is also very good. They offered precise feel and control. When I got my Xbox 360, I was shocked at how poor the Dpad was on that controller. Everything else, including the analog sticks are so perfect, but the Dpad is clumsy and ineffective. I'd try to hold back to block and end up jumping or doing some other random direction.

So after reading some reviews on different products, I thought I'd give the Madcatz fightpad a try. When I received the package, I already had a gut-feeling that it was no good. This was confirmed moments later as I tried to play with it.

1) The diagonals were very difficult to locate and I couldn't hit them with any consistency. Very bad news in a fighting game. I found that I had to hit a precise 30 degree angle from the down position to get down-back, and that should be 45 degrees, not 30. But this could have been a defect in the particular controller I got, and might not be an issue in others.

2) However, I'm sure for all of these controllers, the feel of the pad would be the same. The floating Dpad is very loosey-goosey. While this makes it very easy to throw fireballs, any slight pressure will move you away from your intended position. So if you needed to hold back to block, you might accidentally jump or duck.

3) The construction/material of the controller feels very light and cheap. This wouldn't have bothered me too much if the controller worked great but it didn't, and this only added to my disappointment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Way better than a 360 control, July 9, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Xbox 360 Street Fighter FightPad - Ryu (Accessory)
This is a cool control. The directional pad is really comfortable and responsive. Having the six face buttons in two rows is a complete luxury and the rubber grip on the back feels good too. A definite improvement over a the PS' fragmented D-pad and the 360's way out of place pad. My only gripe with the control was that it doesn't work with SF2 Anniversary Edition very well. Other than that, picking out your favorite character for the design is nice. It's a fine alternative for someone who can't justify shelling out the 60 to 130+ for a joystick.

3.0 out of 5 stars Junk., September 3, 2009
By
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Xbox 360 Street Fighter FightPad - Ryu (Accessory)
This is my second pad, the first one I returned after the dpad wouldnt register RIGHT unless I pressed harder. It only took one week for the first one to break, the second one about two. Now on the second one, the LT button wont work properly, it too has to be pressed harder to register. For 40$, the quality of these pads are complete junk. Initially, I LOVED the way they felt in my hands and I was able to do every characters Ultra, combos, etc...no problem. Playing SFIV on one of these busted controllers is an exercise in frustration, sometimes my ultra will come out, sometimes it wont. Do yourself a favor and avoid these cheapo Madkatz products. Capcom should be ashamed of themselves for associating themselves with such a garbage product. I've owned two, and had two DIFFERENT failures, thats 100% fail. Go buy a sega saturn pad, even the knockoffs are better, oh and they only cost 15$.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good design, deffective though, August 18, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Xbox 360 Street Fighter FightPad - Ryu (Accessory)
This might be no surprise with Mad Catz, D-pad when you tilt it left it goes way down and the directions near it make a click noise, and the RT button doesn't work, I always try to avoid Mad Catz because of their very poor products I always got bad experiences with, I brought an Akuma controler when SF4 just was released and it's given me no issues so far, then I brought Blazblue and brought a second controler with it to play with my friends and I got it defective.

awesome controller, i have always preferred the fightpads to the fightsticks. buttons are sensitive, the directional pad itself only gets better the more times you use it... can be very sensitive to the touch...

overall a good price and good quality item to have either as a backup for friends that game with you or your main controller...
