Fans of board sports will love the authentic experience of the board controller, while the intuitive nature of the board and multiple difficulty settings make it a fun and exciting experience for people of all ages and skill levels. The ease with which anyone can pick up and play this game and each player's unique playing style make this a fun social game for friends and family to play together. So, are you ready to Ride?

All About the Board
Using full motion sensing technology, the intuitive skateboard controller allows players to physically control the action by performing various movements and gestures on the board that directly translate into amazing tricks seen in the game. Closely resembling a "deck"--a board without wheels or trucks, which allow actual skateboards to maneuver their boards--the Ride controller is built around a combination of flat and rounded surfaces. Along the majority of the boards upper surface, as well as the middle center portion of its bottom, players will find flat, level surfaces that provide for players' balance. This is countered by the rounded edges along the top at either ends, as well as the bottom outer edges. These allow for true to life trick performance mechanics which allows gamers can experience a full range of movement as they rotate, tilt and lift the board in a variety of ways to discover every trick in the game.

In addition, the Ride board comes with features designed to maximize ease and continuity of play. These include an upper surface texture similar to the grip tape used on real boards to help maintain player contact with and control of the board, and a full set of traditional navigational buttons that allow the player to interact with the game between levels and online when it is more convenient to do so.

Anyone Can Ride
Tony Hawk: Ride is designed to be fully accessible to everyone – from hardcore fans to players with no prior skateboarding experience. Moving away from the open-world game environment that recent releases in the franchise have embraced, Ride is instead built around a wide range of mini-challenges and events more concerned with riding than exploration. These cover every genre in modern skateboarding and aim to focus the player's attention on developing their skills with the board. And this is easy to do with addictive and engrossing gameplay without complex button combinations or analog sticks that allow gamers to literally step on the board and play.

Exciting, Immersive and Social Game Play
Tony Hawk: Ride features a diverse set of trick, vert, and speed challenges that allow players at all levels to take on their friends and family as they compete with each other via "Hot Seat" game play. In addition, with robust multiplayer, online and create-a-skater modes, players can jump into a personalized and extremely social gaming experience.

So I own this game, have written a trick guide for it, and overall know how to play this game. I wanted to write a review so that others can see the high and low aspects of this game and not just people that give it a score of 1 and go into a rant because they can't figure out the game.

Let's face it folks, not everybody will figure this game out. This game is not for everybody. I am horrible at Madden. I have tried Madden games since Madden 93. After Madden 05, I slowed down with the games and they just got so complex to the point where I just stumbled through playing them. I will not rate those games as a 1 star because I am not good at them.

The joy of this game is that it will trick you. This game is Tony Hawk to its core. This is a completely new Tony Hawk experience, and you need to learn how to play the new experience. Most people will see a skateboard controller, see the Tony Hawk name, and assume that Tony Hawk went soft on us. They will assume that Tony Hawk just tried to capitalize on the casual gamers by making an easy game where you just stand on a skateboard controller, wiggle it a little, and do a 900.

Anybody that thinks that way will be in for quite a bit shock when they start playing this game. You should be afraid of this game. Not because it is bad, but because once you figure out how to play, you will realize that this game plays alot like Tony Hawk 1, but with the inclusion of manuals and a different way of rotating when in vert. This game is for the Tony Hawk fans. This game is not for a casual gamer. Then again, I would like to see any casual gamer dominate in Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2.

Every single review I have read of this game that has given it a bad review, is because of 1 of 2 things:

If there ever was a failed experiment in peripheral technology, its the skateboard controller. I think we can all blame this game as being the tipping point in the "too many add-ons" argument for video games these days.
To be bluntly honest: it doesn't work. The motion sensors in the skateboard are either too sensitive or do not respond at all. Attempting to do an ollie will be split between accomplishing the jump, entering a manual, doing a flip trick, or nothing at all. While it is a sturdy piece of plastic, its too small for anyone over 5 ft tall and you'll find yourself sliding over a carpeted surface.
The game itself is just bland with the environments being unnoticeable. They're frustrating to navigate since there is no way to slow your character down aside from running into a wall. The graphics look as though they came from the previous generation and there's just a general sentiment of grabbing thin air in a desperate attempt to keep the dying early 00's skateboarding craze going.
There are far better games that you can spend your money on. In fact, you could even buy a REAL skateboard and learn to ride that. It would be a better experience than attempting to play this game.

Based on some reviews, I thought this game may disapoint, but I really enjoy it. It took some getting used to and a lot of balance, but it is a lot of fun for families. I'm not a gamer, so I had no previous expectations from Activision or the builders regarding the franchise. I thought the skateboard was well built and responsive. I thought I would be terrible, and I figured it out in a couple of hours, laughing (hard), the entire time. If you want something fun to do with the kids buy it! I thought it was worth the $ especially if they make another game for this perriferal.

I got this for my husband because he loves the Tony Hawk games with just the controller. At first we were fed up with trying to calibrate it, it took us an hour to get it to calibrate. I went to youtube and looked up videos on calibrating it and the one i found was really helpful. Use two new batteries and two old (but not real old) and put it on the box to calibrate the first part. Also make sure there is a full 4 feet clear in front of all sensors and bright lights mess with it as well, Also any metal in the room will keep it from calibrating. We removed all metal cleaned the floor then we exicted out of the game and went back in and it finally calibrated.
Now my husband is playing it and he loves it and it's fun to see him having so much fun with this game I highly reccomend this game. Though it is not for everyone I'm honestly no good at it but it's still fun to try. I do hope this helps as I couldn't find much in the way of calibrating it every thing said the same and truth is it wasn't helpful until I found the youtube video a teenage boy did.
I posted a link to the video I hope it shows up becuase it will help if you need it. :)

I bought the game and enjoyed the game play even though I could not get the board to always register my moves. It provides a great workout, which I really appreciate. Also reminds me of my skateboard years as a teen, and I feel really cool making my computer skater do all the moves I could never pull off on my skateboard as a kid. I think that movement register is based on light sensitivity and so it might work better once the sun starts to shine here in Alaska again. A problem I dealt with was lack of battery life. I would use it for an hour or two twice or three times. Then I will put the board away for a week or two. Then when I try to session again, the batteries were completely dead. I returned two boards because of this problem. The third one did not have this problem. Once I received a non-defective board I have really been enjoying the game. We play it alot at my young adult ministry at church in party mode. Juwan got 128,000 points on a trick run last weekend, and now he has a really big head.
